This is not just a masterpiece of storytelling, imo it’s the best storytelling song of all time!

@@hoopsx2695 Have you heard Dance with the Devil? Best story telling song of all time.
@hammloc Жыл бұрын
@hoopsx2695 I'd say that Stan would be third best tied with Biggies I got a story to tell, sing about me would be second best, and in MY opinion the first best storytelling rap song EVER: is Children's story by Slick Rick

the friend dying as he says “if I die before your album drop” and Keisha’s sister slowly fading into the background after proclaiming she’ll be good and never fade away. to the silence of Kendrick asking “am I worth it” at the end of his pov. absolute masterpiece of a song. this one and his pain are the two Kenny songs that made me cry on first listen.

It is preposterous that a human being wrote these lyrics. Simply unbelievable in every way.
@shwshnk85 Жыл бұрын
This is one of those songs in his catalog that, for me, that puts him outside of rapper comparisons. Being technical and clever with words and metaphors is cool, but what Kdot does with words to evoke emotions is unmatched. I’m a Nas guy, but this dude is up there with Frost, Whitman, and Twain.
@Flyhr Жыл бұрын
Kendrick can emulate the soul of Pac and the vivid rap imagery of Nas.
@NatashaElsewhere Жыл бұрын
Exactly! Kendrck should not be compared to rappers at this point. The likes of Sylvia Plath, Langston Hughes and even the likes of Toni Morrison are more fair comparisons. My most humble opinion ofcourse.

18:37 I’m from a predominantly white Christian country, and I have qualms about religion but the people of the black church I visited in Brooklyn were the nicest people I’ve ever met and I have the upmost respect for them and rappers like Kendrick when they talk about it. I’ll definitely be visiting again, my name is hard to pronounce in English so I walked away with a new nickname from the Pastor that I still use

It's about the Cycles of the ghetto. Kendrick speaks from others perspective not his own The first verse it's kendricks friend who loses his older brother to gang violence talking to kendrick. Wondering if he can cope with his brother's death, he then goes and killing spree for retaliation for his brother. Then is murdered by rival gangs The 2nd verse is from the perspective of Keishas younger sister (Keisha of section 8) her sister was a prostitute and loses her life. And the cycle is she is now a prostitute herself and pointing the finger at kendrick talking ish about bringing Keisha up in his last album. The third verse it's kendricks perspective. He questions if he's living righteous. The glass mirror is becoming hazy. But he says wether people live a good or bad life they shouldn't be excluded and forgotten about. And what connects them all is his chorus "when the lights turn off. Promise that u will sing about me" So they're cycles. He talks about the little brother/sister walking in their older siblings footsteps. But because they live in that life does that make them evil people?

*Flatbush Zombies - The Glory ft.Denzel Curry* They all talk about some real shit and its just overall a fantastic range of the three of them + Denzel on something less as intense as you might be used to him on so far. Overall one of my favorite FBZ songs for sure I think you both would love the lyricism in it.
