Just so you know fully - they keep saying “bae” because it’s short for “sunbae” (or also “hoobae”). Sunbae is term given to someone ahead of you in school or career. Ie if you’re a freshman in college, you’d call a senior in your class “sunbae”. When BTS was first on the scene they got a lot do criticism for their name, for their face (for not fitting the stereotypical standard of beauty in Korea), for their diction, for breathing … so this song is their clap back to that. Sorry for all the things we don’t measure up to. Also sorry that we’re so much better than you all - just love yourself.

Sunbae is the term for their seniors. Hoobae is the term for their juniors. Ie BTS would call TXT their hoobaes. And TXT would call them their sunbaes. Or Sunbaenim for proper titles.

I always think that in this one they have decided to rise above the haters and let them know they are bigger than them and don’t hate them even anymore. Except Suga didn’t get that memo and still had some heat to bring 😂😂. At the AgustD/ Suga concerts he’s been doing this cypher and the whole arena screams the chorus and it’s amazingly empowering to scream with 20k other people “i love myself, I know myself”

Ddaeng is sort of considered as cypher pt. 5 by some armys. You should definitely check it out but I also HIGHLY recommend watching 'Ddaeng explained' by DKDKTV afterwards because boy do they have some bars but it requires some knowledge of korean culture therefore the explanation video. I promise it's worth watching and your appreciation for the song is gonna quadruple. Also, BTS' live performances go extra hard. The energy they bring is on another level. Would be fun if you checked any of them out at some point.

"enjoy bts more" yt channel is a source that a lot of reactors use, the translations are supposed to be excellent and for live performance clips even includes translation for dialogue on stage, banter between songs, etc. :)

Stopped at your comment about them being cameleons... you are so right, and not only on the rap side of their music. All 7 of BTS are cameleons, and they have so many different songs in many genres, from hip hop to r&b, pop, edm, ballads, even latin pop. They have amazing stage presence, and also dance better than proffesional dancers. On top of that they are amazing role models and great people, with a fascinating story behind them, so these things and many more added up and created that huge fanbase they have. There is an introduction to BTS video by Taylor Marie, maybe one day you'll want to watch it, it will give you a great idea of if/how you wanna go by descovering them, as they have a huge discography really.
