By the end of the video the engine is done being removed! I hope this series helped you guys with any parts that you got stuck on, as well as helping you build confidence to do the work yourself! using a flathead on the inside rim of the coolant hoses with a spray of brakecleaner to soften up the rubber went a long way for future ease. coworker and i doing this exact motor pull out of a b5 passat, somewhat different from this b5.5, but almost identical otherwise. has been very helpful throughout the 3 part. this is an very indepth removal guide for b5/b5.5. For us, the timing belt has about 5 inches of sheared or flaking teeth, so belt needs replaced but unsure what kind of damage that caused, as the crank spins and when the belt was off the camshaft, turning the crank turned the timing belt, but the belt didnt turn the camshaft. so hoping not bent valves but probably likely.

Thanks man! I’m about to do it on my 04 Passat 1.8t . This will be my first time my old engine last only 270000 miles the one i got only has 126000 , you think this will have any problem with the transmission?

On the electrical connectors with the wire retainer. Like the one for the cam sensor and the ac pressure switch from the first video: squeeze the wire closer to the connector and it will slide off. For the ac switch squeeze both wire tabs together and they slide right off. ✌

My 2006 vw passat engine on drivers side fell down to ground. Is it motor mount and which one?? I have so many questions!

well done! a god job and a hard work! i don't think VW is an artist, they just piled everything up! passat is not well designed. my passat runs for 60000 km, has a not good smell while AC opening for it's engine's oil leaking like this engin, can't finding a way to wash out these surface oil on site without pull out the engine.

A pipe over your ratchet handle can add leverage as he was trying to explain with the breaker bar

How do I disconnect the flywheel from the converter if my engine is seized

the engine can be pulled out with the torque converter attached

Would be better to pull engine and transmission together out of the car?

I know this sounds like a lot of work, however, the engine has to come out through the bottom, so the subframe has to come off. I would disconnect the suspension, exhaust, and electrical connectors and drop it down with engine and transmission attached together still. Pro tip, break loose the bolts on the torque converter and transmission bolts before dropping the subframe.

@@BEERSnGEARS could you please explain why break a bolts before dropping sub-frame? I have 05 volkswagen passat 2.0tdi and want to do manual swap. That's why I've asked if engine with transmission might be better to pull together.

@@Tahoe0512 they could be harder to get to when the subframe is on the ground so if you break them loose before dropping them it doesn't require as much leverage to take them out so you can work in a tighter space

@@BEERSnGEARS I was thinking to pull them together. Cherry picker on engine and transmission jack with wheels on transmission. Pull it together and break them apart outside. I still need to do some work on engine. Then put manual transmission to engine and all together in the car the same way they came out. What is your input on this?

First time trying on taking the engine out.! When you removed the started, you remove the 3 bolts on the pressure plate . An my question is do I have to remove those 3 bolts to remove the engine?

those clips are made to be pushed not pulled.

@@BEERSnGEARS I meant that the hose clips should be pushed down and while you pish them you just pull the hose off. If you pull the clips off with screwdriver its a risk of streching them and not be able to assemble the car propperly later or have leaks. I have passat b5 97 1.8 without turbo and expirienced the same.

​@@BEERSnGEARS Front clip, comes off as one piece, no need to take it all apart. prevents having bunch of plastic fragile parts from laying everywhere. Leave turbo attached to the engine and disconnect it from the down pipe. Downpipe out of the way leaves more room for tranny bolts. Use crank bolt to rotate the engine to get the flex plate bolts out not a crow bar. good learning experience though I bet
