If you won, let's said, 5 millions and you buy a house for 3 millions, you now own a very valuable property and it's all cool... until taxes come in. It's a good example for USA, since you pay a real estate tax based on the value of your home. Not a good example in a country like France because you don't pay a tax if this is your primary residence. But you get the idea. In the long term, you will not be able to sustain your life style, even if you try to be careful. The best way to use lottery money is to stay humble, and buy things you could afford before. Because you are sure to never run out.
