Bees Moved Into Shed Wall, Then This Happened...

Rickey recently started keeping bees & when a swarm moved into a shed wall on family property he called me to get them out & place them into his beekeeping equipment so he could add this colony to his apiary.
In this video we did just that.
It was a bit of a pain accessing the wall void the bees occupied but thank goodness they hadn't been there that long (like, the day before!)
About a week later I went by Rickey's place to inspect the colony's progress & give the viewers of my youtube channel an update.
The queen was laying & the bees were making honey. I found the hive to be moving right along.
Onto the next one...

Thanks for another great video. I had the privilege of going to a local farm that is open to the public and see their bees. They had a section behind plexiglass so you could see the activity in the hive. I was able to explain so much to some of the children there. Thanks to you and your videos, I could point out the drones, the worker bees and point out the cells that had honey and the cells that had been capped over and had larva!

Wow, JP! I've learned so much about bees watching your videos! I'd absolutely love to keep bees, but I live in a big city in Spain and that's kind of impossible for me. I do enjoy spotting bees here and there and now I'm not scared of them anymore. I approach them respectfully and watch them buzz about whenever I see them. What I do to help the bees is talk to my children about them (I work in an elementary school) and tell them how we should not fear them, but protect them. I pass along a lot of the information I learnt from you and hopefully we'll have some passionate beekeepers in the future. Thanks for all you do!

If it’s the one he removed in late February with the bucket bee vac guy, yes. I believe a big part of their demeanor was “when,” they were removed. Could be genetics but I’m thinking perhaps it just wasn’t a good time to remove them. I’ll have to ask Dirt if they calmed down once domesticated. Things were pretty intense in that video. Trust me, I’ve been there & it ain’t pretty. ✌️🐝

Now, as a "Mature" woman, I've really gotten over that. Since I started watching your videos and learned so much from you, I have no fear at all anymore. Do you have any suggestions for getting rid of Carpenter Bees? My cabin in Upstate NY has become infested in the past 4 or 5 years. We've tried everything, but each Summer there are more and more. You don’t know 100% for certain unless a lab does a DNA analysis but I can tell you the initial phone call would give me definitive clues I was dealing with extremely aggressive bees. This colony had literally moved in the day before, so they were a swarm the day before & 99% of the time swarms are usually gentle. There are situations when swarms will even light you up like there’s no tomorrow but that’s a discussion for another time. ✌️🐝✌️
