This one was quite the adventure folks! I don't want to spoil the fun by saying too much (you'll have to watch the video) but this honey bee removal took two days to complete & required me to use a cane knife, snips, handsaw & chainsaw to get to the hive & to remove it! It was a wild, wild adventure! Hope you enjoy it!

How to get calm bees on a log to swarm all over? Keep watching. On more vids than just this. Usually u use a bee vac or get the queen (cage) LONG before shaking them all up & disturbing them. Usually u keep the box open with frames out & shake the bees in it, but he shakes bees in the air, shakes them on the closed lid etc. He breaks all the norms. No wonder they swarmed, he harrasses them!

@@JPthebeeman you're welcome 😊 ya know we had the same thing happen last spring the queen & swarm went over to another tree in our yard and we got her...... stuck her in a cage ......then after they all went in the box we let her out of the cage. I went in the next day after work to check & see if they stayed in the box......they left! Problem is, they left her and three bees in the box. I've never had this happen or heard of it happening have you? I took care of her for three or four days then she left. I think maybe there was another queen or something.

@@JPthebeeman oh okay that makes sense now....I just got scared that it might hurt her some way. @JPthebeeman
@JPthebeeman Жыл бұрын
@@mizzprettyhuston if you use JZBZ queen cages, you pull the tab out of the bottom & the workers can then get inside to tend to her needs, same with a queen catcher. I’ve actually had bees build comb inside of queen catchers & the queen was laying inside the catcher, lol.

@julieenslow5915

I believe the nurse bees (which are young) typically take care of the Queen and the brood. But there are always exceptions. If, for example, something ripped open some honey cells and the Queen is covered in honey, all nearby bees will start licking the honey off the Queen. Others will go to the broken cells and start removing the honey so they can repair the cells. The removed honey will be put in other cells. It becomes all available hands on deck situation! I don't remember whose video actually showed that in action, can anyone help my memory out?
@amos3three941
@amos3three941 Жыл бұрын
@@julieenslow5915 good answer as I understand it. Nurse bees are new bees after coming out of capped cell. They work inside the boxes for 15 days and after that they will start to leave and become the worker bees who bring in the nectar and pollen and water for the rest of their lives which is about 45 days or so as I understand it. Their wings wear out because of their flying so many miles a day while providing their duties for the benefit of the colony. A wonder full thing about the honey bee is their purpose is to fulfill their duty to the benefit of the colony. If only people would see that we are not to look out only for our own interest but also for the interest of others when we are able to do so.

Just remember when the workers are out and about they only want nectar or pollen they are not looking to sting anyone it would kill them. If you see one out just observe it and if possible walk slowly around it and notice it is not paying attention to you, just gathering pollen and nectar, and they never mix the two nor do they mix different types of pollen while bringing in pollen. Wonderful little creatures they are to bless us with the fruits of their labor, thank the Lord for honey bees.
