Franz Liszt must havw known that his piano transcription ob Beethoven's Ninth Symphony was impossible to play on one piano; perhaps only by himself. This performance for two pianos and timpany was absolutely breathtaking, stunning. Thank you and bless you for this performance.

There is a pianist named Cyprien Katsaris who has achieved the impossible: playing the ninth symphony with just two hands. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJKai56shZ2BqM0 Enjoy =D
@pizzacheeto2 жыл бұрын
Liszt, after having transcribed all symphonies up until the 3rd movement of the Ninth, had wished his publisher (Breitkopf & Haertel) to regard it as complete. At the end of transcribing the 3rd movement, Liszt points out that (NB) he had previously arranged the 4th movement for two pianos. He then writes, in the manuscript, translated from German: "The impossibility of an even partially satisfactory arrangement of this highly polyphonic choral-orchestral movement on *one piano* excuses its omission on the present edition of the Beethoven Symphonies." followed by a French idiom: »À l'impossible nul n'est tenu.« Well, after that, Liszt's publisher tried to convince him... and the rest was history.

I discovered this video late at night and couldn’t sleep after watching it. Because of the extraordinary clarity and drive of your pianism in both precision and attack, (specially the scherzo) one can only stand in awe of Beethoven’s original concept, Liszt’s adaption, and your achievement in bringing this marvel into the World. The only thing missing was the Royal Festival Hall with a capacity audience to lift the roof with their applause at the finale. What a tragedy so few people were in attendance but what a blessing it was filmed for the whole of humanity to savour at their leisure. Thank you so much for such a spectacular and inspiring achievement by all concerned. Despite all that’s going on in the World this makes you proud to be a member of the human race. Please continue on your journey to bring more glories into the World.

Frederic Chiu said that the Liszt transcriptions were the closest thing we have to an actual 18th century recording of Beethoven's works. When the recording industry started, it was already 100 years after the works were performed. Frederic then went on to give a Masterclass for the Seventh Symphony, and I was enthralled. I came across a version on You Tube, and thought it was OK. And then I found Kevin. Masterful. Of course Liszt had to do something special for the Ninth. Kevin, Junyan and Ethan have given us a gift. Luigi heard this in his head, and wrote it down. Liszt heard it and transcribed it for the noble piano. The Ninth is a gift that keeps on giving. Merci beaucoup, Brava et Bravo.

Great arrangement! Great performances! Pity it can only be enjoyed via KZbin, but also great videography, giving us various views of the performers. Kudos to the page-turners. I have turned pages for a pianist (my father) and it is nerve wracking, keeping focused and making the page at just the right point so the pianist can absorb the notes in the last measure of the page and turn in time to take in the first measure of the next page. Keep that up for over an hour. It's not easy.
