Zimerman’s solo 1991 performances of Nos. 1 and 2 as well as the rest of the cycle with Bernstein are available on DVD, which I assume this video was ripped directly from. Very well worth owning. Zimerman re-recorded this with the London Symphony Orchestra and Simon Rattle conducting in 2020, however I find even with Zimerman conducting these original 1991 recordings are better.

40 full minutes of goosebumps! Music and passion just CANNOT BE BETTER than this! Beethoven was a complete musical genius, along with Mozart. I just can’t separate them!

Beethoven Piano concerto number 1 with Zimmerman playing the piano and in the same time conducting. It is absolutely unbelievable. It is one of the kind , close your eyes and Fly over the sky with Zimmerman!

Insuperable Zimerman.

Beethoven's "other" underappreciated piano concerto (besides the Piano Concerto no. 2) 1st movement: 1:00 2nd movement (SO beautiful!): 18:58 3rd movement (so charming!): 31:44

First heard this concerto when I was 6 years old...my Mum gave it to me for my birthday.....played the sh#t out of it on my plastic record player. Today I’m 66...still find it absolutely electrifying ! (I have a better sound system now...also a Grotrian Steinweg grand piano ). Zimmerman is awesome - I wonder if he’s an old dude like me now ?....bet he’s still the coolest ! Thank you for this wonderful concert !

I wonder with the magnificent conductor that is Zimerman. His sensitivity when playing is also amazing. This masterpiece is incredible in harmony and touches us deeply, Beethoven was a fabulous composer perhaps the greatest that ever existed so far. Thanks for this incredible recording. The orchestra is superb. Viva Beethoven and his divine music.

This is one of my favourite versions of this concerto. Pity about the octave scales leading to the re-exposition, I love it when they're played like a forthright glissando.

Cn i just point out that there's not a single woman in the orchestra
@andrewtunis20232 жыл бұрын
Well, believe it or not, the VPO did not allow women in the orchestra at this time. I believe that it was not until 1997 that they hired their first woman player ever.
Do not play this. It has commercials in it. There are versions on YT without them. Blasphemious.

He shouldn't conduct. Here he seems to have abandoned that elegant Austrian viscount image as a soloist and appears more like an eccentric scientist. 😂
@richy772 жыл бұрын
Lol Lenny died however so he couldn’t conduct the first two concertos. Not sure why zimerman didn’t find another conductor though
@benrlego2 жыл бұрын
@@richy77 I believe Zimerman did this as a respectful gesture to Bernstein, as he thought introducing another conductor would take away the connection to the Bernstein thus making his cycle incomplete.
