Originally written as Beethoven’s famous violin concerto, I love how they gave it a new expressive arraignment so that the solo piano could also get an equal chance of expression with this work! It remains one of my favorites by Beethoven for this reason. ❤️

Wonderful.... Beethoven, being a "piano based" composer anyway, just blends the music in seamlessly.. That central section in the first movement, just before the reprise for full orchestra, is still one of the most beautiful in all music. Not so radiant, and withdrawn as in the violin version, but impressive all the same..

For many years I preferred this version over the original violin. Somehow it is more Beethovenesque and manly as opposed to sentimental violin version. Now I am less sure as some sonorities of violin cannot be reproduced or even approximated on the piano. Plus, I believe should the original was the piano version it would be more virtuosic. However, the piano version is sufficiently different from the violin one to be enjoyed on its own merit.

Wow. This is news to me! I guess music degrees are only worth so much... Piano part in the score seems to have been simplified somewhat from what the pianist is actually playing here -- unless he/she is taking some liberties.

It is highly unlikely Duchable used this edition for his performance. It would be interesting to see Beethoven's manuscript.
