Many listeners are inclined to treat the middle movement of concertos, sonatas as a piece of connective tissue between two more interesting "organs" - they want excitement, fireworks. This set of 3 videos shows that Valentina knits the whole piece together perfectly. For me, its sonorous, passionate message remains and builds from start to finish. Fantastic, Valentina - awe-inspiring !

Most love the complexity of the 1st and 3rd movements but perhaps the simple beauty of the 2nd movement is the most stunning.

Je ne me lasse pas d'écouter et regarder Valentina Lisitsa, jouer l'appassionata. C'est une pure merveille. La façon qu'elle a de faire courir ses doigts sur le clavier, tout semble si naturel. Quelle maitrise! Magnifique. Incomparable.

Beautiful! My soul could derive it's energy from this movement... hoping to finish this piece before I turn sixteen... Exactly!! I finally stopped and listened to the 2nd movement and loved it. It was the Kempff recording - I didn't like what he did with the 3rd movt, but I think he nailed the 2nd. Beautiful arpeggios and interesting voices.

All your videos are terrific! Far and away the best pianist on KZbin. And I don't just mean the playing (which of course is excellent), but you also put the camera where it *should* be, and the sound is actually quite good. I just hate hearing a great piece of music while staring at paintings of the composer or listening to someone play on an old upright in their living room. I'm devouring these. Thanks so much!

Wow!! Here's an exemple of a pianist with both truly godlike-transcendental technique and musicianship! I first came to know of Valentina's work by her Chopin's Etudes DVD, which is brilliant, just as any other of her Romantic virtuoso repertoire. But after this Beethoven I have no doubt she stands among the greatest pianists of history! The way she captures the essense of this piece (talking about the 3 movs here) is really the work of a genius. Hope I can one day attend to one of her concerts

All is subjective. How would you compare, this same piece played by, say, Barenboim, with this? Comparatively, this one seems to contain a bit less depth, in my opinion.

I need more fullness of sound! I need more beethoven! This is too early romantic for me, Beethoven may have been, but he was a totally different genre. He was earthy, obvious, almost lower-class music you could put it - indeed he made his music for the masses, while being incredibly deep music. While Chopin could be considered as a aristocratic genre of grace and charm, much more suited to Valentina. I am making NO discrimination of classes here, just general charasteristics of the music!

@bqooxoopd As much as I suppose everyone has their own tastes, when I think of the Appassionata, I think of how she plays it. The way of which she puts all of her emotion into it and her passion. It may look like she wants to 'destroy' the piano, but the emotion is obviously there, and she does it perfectly.

How can this video be from 2009 and look so good? haha i wonder
@alcubierrevj5 жыл бұрын
While Lisitsa's virtuosity is quite evident at "normal (1.0)" speed in the video, I think that the musicality of the piece resonates better at 0.75 speed.
@Ally12323414 жыл бұрын
@cmoimoro Did you just direct that at Lisitsa? "Pretty talented" "Not bad at it".. she isn't pretty talented, she's world class! And i can't imagine anybody playing this piece with a huge silly grin across their face.. (well, lang lang maybe)
