They say a masterpiece is a work you keep going back to...but what do you say to a masterpiece that just gets better everytime you go back to it? That is the genius of Beethoven, every note enters into your cells.

Watched this again, becoming my favorite version of the Tripelkonzert! - many others available, but the magic of this one is neverending... it is a musical monument that typifies in a small way... what CIVILIZATION is all about.

What would we do without this wonderful Frankfurt orchestra? and then we are blessed with admirable and multi-talented soloists.... added to which we have a fabulous sound technology... all at a bad time for the world.... thank you again, so very much. Great appreciation from the UK.

I love the delicacy of this sprightful interpretation of this delightful Beethoven concerti - so many others to feast on, but this one is precious - can one "feast" on a piece of music - I guess they can. The orchestra and the absolutely fabulous soloists... and the wonderful Paavo Järvi gave ALL they had. What a feast it was... and is. How lucky to be able to view all of these superb musicians and conductor for this "feast" that can be heard over and over. Thank you, KZbin!

This is definitely the best version of the Triple Concerto which I have ever watched. There's a lot going on, with three soloists, the orchestra and the conductor, but they all work so well together as a team, to produce a seamless and inspirational performance. The Rondo final is particularly memorable. Overall, this is just brilliant!

Streaming it now on tv. What a bittersweet memory of the late Great Pianist Nicholas Angelich! The amazing soloists Nicholas Angelich, Gil Shaham, Anne Gastinel, Sinfonieorchester conducted by impeccable Paavo Järvi are all that needed to make Beethoven: Tripelkonzert sound so exquisite! Thank you.

This was a wonderful recording marred only by the foolish comments of some of the listeners; one who complained about Anne's playing because she was a woman, another annoyed by Gil's E string that was too shrill for his ears. The fault, dear Brutus, was in too much treble inserted by the Sound Engineer. Note that for a moment or two the video wasn't sharp enough because the automatic lens adjustment didn't work properly. It's a good thing that there's no automatic placement of fingers on fingerboards. The musicians have to do that themselves. The result was there was no one out of tune.

Gil Shaham's sound in this performance is particularly delightful, as is the cellist. The piano is great, but in my view is slightly over loud in the balance of the recording. Some interesting shots in the filming, I hope the musicians were warned in advance to wash behind their ears. Gil Shaham's enjoyment of the playing by the other performers, such as the cello opening in the second movement, is really nice.

I remember buying the DGG LP around 1965. It was my first DGG recording and it cost around $6.00, series bread in those days. I have long-since moved on from vinyl, but I always remember the casual photograph of the musicians, all of them in open collars and smoking.
