Bravi! I recently listened to a recording of this great concerto played brilliantly by Hillary Hahn and conducted in a shockingly lifeless way by David Zinman. It was a valiant effort by Hahn to overcome the tired flatness of Zinman. (I saw another Zinman performance on youtube where he hardly ever looks at the musicians.) THIS performance conducted by Manacorda has more life in the first few bars than Zinman's entire performance.

Colourful sound of the fantastic violin... musicality and virtuosity of the musician exemplary... somewhat ...I missed something... The aura of Beethoven's masterpiece disappeared after the first 10 minutes... this is an sample of how to play romantic or impressionistic music of Debussy for example. Too much vibrato and even rubato at times. Maybe I am in the dark, probably yes for sure... I am already old and indebted, and deft... And what ?... Some composers also were... No, seriously. Beethoven orchestration on this version is more clearly perceived than in any other I have listened. In B section (min 10) almost seems to be a violín bassoon concerto. But the listening is strongly a great pleasure. I must say that I really love this performance. Excellent!

A knock-out, intelligent, passionate performance by both soloist and orchestra and at more or less the right (faster than usual) tempi, marred only by the traditional, non-sensical slowing down for the G Minor and E-flat Major section of the development section. Perhaps Maestro Zander will talk her out of this for her performance in Boston scheduled next November.

nobody comments on the cadenza. It sounds wild, far-fetched, over the top, unacceptable, un-Beethovenian? It is violinist Wolfgang Schneiderhan's arrangement of the one written by Beethoven himself for the arrangement for Piano Concerto he made of the Violin Concerto. Schnittke's sounds civilized in comparison!

Auf Anregung von Muzio Clementi, der in London einen bedeutenden Verlag führte, arbeitete Beethoven sein Violinkonzert zu einem Klavierkonzert um und hinterließ für diese Fassung Kadenzen zum 1. und 3. Satz. Zum originalen Violinkonzert sind dagegen keine von Beethoven selbst verfassten Kadenzen überliefert. Der große Geiger Wolfgang Schneiderhan übertrug daher die Kadenzen zur Klavierfassung für sein Instrument, die Violine, und schuf damit gewissermaßen eine Originalkadenz zur Originalfassung.
