CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After breaking the rules and summoning Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), Juno (Sylvia Sidney) chastises Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) for making the situation worse.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Thanks to the carelessness of a cute little dog, newlyweds Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are killed in a freak auto accident. Upon arriving in the outer offices of Heaven, the couple finds that, thanks to a century's worth of bureaucratic red tape, they're on a long celestial waiting list. Before they can earn their wings, Davis and Baldwin must occupy their old house as ghosts for the next fifty years. Alas, the house is now owned by insufferable yuppies Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones. Horrified at the prospect of sharing space with these obnoxious interlopers, Davis and Baldwin do their best to scare O'Hara and Jones away, but their house-haunting skills are pathetic at best. In desperation, the ghostly couple engage the services of a veteran scaremeister: a yellow-haired, snaggle-toothed, profane, flatulent "gonzo" spirit named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton). The problem: Beetlejuice cannot be trusted-especially when he falls in love with O'Hara and Jones' gloomy, black-clad teenaged daughter Winona Ryder. Beetlejuice producer David Geffen, director Tim Burton, and composer Danny Elfman were also involved in an animated TV-series spin-off.

Sylvia Sidney (born Sophia Kosow; 1910-1999) was from the Bronx originally but in most of her films and stage roles she controlled her diction well, like other New York actresses such as Susan Hayward (Brooklyn), Claire Trevor (born Brooklyn but raised in the suburbs), Mary Tyler Moore (lived in NYC until her family moved to California; she never sounded NY to me), Lee Grant (born and raised in Manhattan), Eydie Gorme (Bronx), et alia. Of course, in some cases (Ethel Merman, Judge Judy, Joan Rivers, Barbra Streisand), there is no room for doubt.

Are you kidding? Bale landed the role after American Psycho. Because Bruce Wayne is an entirely sane character and a COMPLETE psychological 180 from Beetlejuice? Did ya forget Bruce Wayne smashing stuff with a fire-poker screaming at the Joker: "ya wanna get nuts?! Come on!! Let's get nuts!!" If anything, playing a sadistic psycho should be a pre-requiste to even audition for Batman. Heck, I'd even say an actor should be able to play both Joker and Batman in order to qualify to play just Batman.

Not sure if you asked, but actual answer is interesting to know! Keaton actually turned down Beetlejuice at first because he didn’t know what Burton had in mind for the character. He was recommended by the studio off of another film. Burton came back to him a second time and had a more thought out pitch of ‘he’s lived in every era and none of them at all’ which Keaton found interesting. After his performance here (which Keaton declares his favorite still after all this time!) Burton had him in the top slot for Batman. Crazy to think we never would’ve had one of the most definitive portrayals of Batman if it wasn’t for the afterlife’s best bio-exorcist!
