I was surprised with how much Beetlejuice 2 made me laugh, I haven't laughed that much in the theatre for a long time, it was just an overall enjoyable movie, and it's nice to see that Tim Burton still has it.

100% agree. What the movie lacks in Narrative it more than makes up for with a game cast and genuine affection for the gothic aesthatic Burton is renowned for

Why would it be bad? the original Beetlejuice is one of the best ghoulish comedies ever made. If Burton knows how to do anything, it's make Beetlejuice movies

The one thing for me that was really lacking was the edit. Burton's 80s-90s movies were very smooth in terms of edit. Watch the original Beetlejuice and you will see that it's a very quickly paced movie. But honestly in terms of narrative you'd think this wasn't directed by Burton at all, it was all over the place at one point. Regarding the black and white scene it wasn't because belluci is italian. It was an homage/recreation of the style of movies of Italian director Mario Bava. He is referred to in the movie as well.
@SydneyVolpe
@SydneyVolpe 5 ай бұрын
Definitely agree about the edit and ha interesting, i saw someone say Béla Tar but Mario Bava would make more sense since he is mentioned. I guess I’m wondering what came first/ what was in the original script since Tim Burton obviously adds some fun stuff along the way. Thanks for watching!

(spoiler alert!!!) i actually thought it was pretty funny how easily beetlejuice got rid of his ex when she crashed the place. reminded me of how easily he solved the problem when lydia asked his help in the first movie.

Exactly, people dunk on it because every thread is resolved by Beetlejuice just Doing Some Random Shit, but that's exactly how the first movie ended? legit as soon as any character gives him the power to do stuff, and if he's properly motivated, he can just absolutely clean house. he is overpowered as fuck yet still chooses to be a skeevy sleazebag and it's wonderful

that's exactly how I felt! It's like a rollercoaster ride, with an extremley long build to the top and then so much stuff is thrown at you while the coaster goes down and speeds up and before you know it it's over.
@tirvine9102
@tirvine9102 4 ай бұрын
@@darcticThat's what I liked about it, it should be a looney tunes roller coaster ride. I thought the dialogue could use some trimming. Whats there is great, the general trauma, Beetlejuice's ex was a brilliant red herring threat. Yes, there could have been more with the dad.

as you fairly said, the movie is far from perfect & has a few things that could have been cut out but i loved it!! went with my bf & baby sister & we had such a great time! so much laughter. wish the audience was better-behaved, tho. this is a movie i would love to own on blu-ray. are they still making those? *cry* Keaton & O'Hara were just phenomenal! really loved Delia in the OG & was happy she was just as invigorating in this. loved a lot of the visuals we get treated to from Burton's mind.

Honestly never liked the original so this movie felt like a breath of fresh air in comparison, very eclectic and interestingly stitched together for most of the runtime but totally agree with your critiques as well. Ultimately leads up to a mushed mess of an ending where few enough of the pieces that are set up fall into place naturally. Had the same issue with the original but I found this one so much funnier and more breathable

@Sydney Volpe a bit of a hot take here but, seeing as I only saw the first movie for the first time ever this past Monday with my mom and then earlier this afternoon with my dad before seeing a 6:15pm Dolby Cinema showing with both of them for the sequel, I must say I think I enjoyed the sequel more, I think way more of Michael Keaton’s one-liner’s hit my perverse sense of humor better and overall the effects got more of a laugh out of me due to the updated feel of the practical effects over the last 36 years or so. I also think for me personally, the only weak link was Willem Dafoe unfortunately, which I only say unfortunately because, he’s easily one of my favorite actors working today ever since I saw him for the very first time when I was a young kid seeing Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man film in the theaters, I will give the man credit though he did give me a few good solid belly laughs but, overall I feel like his character could have been cut out completely and the fast pace of the film wouldn’t suffer one bit.

I would have left the theater after that insanely boring 30 minute "what have they been up to" segment if my mom wasn't with me. By the time the big payoff (there is no payoff) arrives I just wanted the movie to be over but it has like a 20 minute dance sequence. Just bad writing, bad performances, senseless characters, and nothing new to add. Also probably offensive to a lot of folks. What a turd.

@@SydneyVolpe the three bad guy thing that goes nowhere, the song and dance sequence that goes nowhere for a very long time, the extra characters, like Dafoe, who are really in there pitching but they could be pulled out and nothing would be affected. The feeling that this is a lot of different scripts welded together by a baseball team size squad of writers. Spiderman 3. And Burton killed Bob. For a gag. By a character pointless chasing a guy who has to appear if you just say his name three times.
