Whether you believe it or not, you are helping a lot of people. I have been learning Russian at home. Since 2019. And using your channel to understand some of the most complicated topics. You really are helping me become conversational in Russian , having never left the U.S. …Simply amazing.

I think the best general translation of "за" is "following" as it includes most physical location and figurative relationship meanings.

That's confusing lol. Just at first glance I figured that meant, "not for this"...Wouldn't have guessed it meant, "my pleasure"

Intresting moment here. "I did it for you" has 2 different meanings and in Russian they actually sound different. 1) Substitution of a person, implies responsibility, that the person should've done it himself I did it for you - Я сделал это ЗА тебя I took out the trash for you. - Я вынес мусор за тебя. I worked two shifts for you. - Я за тебя две смены отработал. 2) Gift to a person, implies no responsibility, just good will I did it for you - Я сделал это ДЛЯ тебя I've bought these slippers for you. - Я купил эти тапочки для тебя. I've made that research for you. - Я сделал то исследование для тебя.

Hi! I have a question if you don't mind. I just watched a video from Be Fluent in Russian about genders for nouns and how it can change adjective/verb endings. Another video he made was talking about the conjugation of verbs and how the endings change. So which ending takes priority? The ending for the gender or the conjugation ending? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

In my native Czech understanding, the two interpretations "after/behind" and "for" of "za" are almost two separate words. Seeing that it works exactly the same in west slavic, these two interpretations must have merged a long time ago.

Now that I understand за, I have further questions. 1) which case comes after за? I noticed accusative case but not only. 2) when за is used for all of that, when is для actually used? Большое спасибо

While I understand most of it, can someone point out the difference in use between за and для (especially in the contexts of cause/exchange) ? Even though I grew up in the language, I tend to get confused here - among many other points - and I guess I end up using для often because it means „for“ so it kinda makes sense but not really. If someone could point out how to better make that distinction, I’d be super grateful!

Thanks for this collection, very helpful. It would also be useful to mention what comes after за. If I deduce correctly from your examples, за requires accusative case most of the time, and instrumental case when it means behind/beyond in a static situation?

Is there an easy way to tell when I should use «за» instead of «для»? What I mean is that in English, we would say “I went to the store for bread” using “for” the same way «за» is used in the Russian translation of that phrase. But, in English we would also say “I did it for you” whereas in the Russian translation, you would say «я сделал ето для вас». Is there a rule or explanation for this or is it just something I have to memorize?
