Lyrics of songs: 1.

This is interesting to me. I've known about Kino for a good long while, but it's very recent that I've been exploring their songs deeper. These two are on that list. Odd coincidence. 🥰

I would like to share how I see the first verse: 1st line is pretty clear. 2nd Звёздная пыль - на сапогах. / Stardust on the boots. The boots are covered with dust, meaning they weren't used for quite a while. And since everything around us consists of stardust, he used this word, just to make it more romantic. Could be also different meaning, that he's been everywhere, the boots collected all kinds of dust, but now he's doing nothing. 3rd Мягкое кресло, клетчатый плед, не нажатый вовремя курок. / Cozy chair, checkered blanket and a trigger not pulled in time. A place that is comfortable for the body is in fact very uncomfortable for the soul. Lack of movement leads to depression and desire to die. But he decided not to pull the trigger. 4th Солнечный день - в ослепительных снах. / A sunny day - in dazzling dreams. The person is definitely dreaming about happier days and some changes. This could also mean that he sleeps in that particular cozy chair instead of living his life on sunny days.

I've found that memorizing songs lyrics (including these two) is much better for me than flashcards, because you hear the words in context and there's music to help remember the lyrics. Hopefully this video helps people find Кино and get into Russian music!

This is really great! I'm in a band - Brazzaville - that did a cover of Star Called Sun. Once I met Kino's guitarist, Yuri when we played a memorial concert in St. Petersburg. He's a great guy and emailed me a translation of the lyrics; I really enjoyed your explanations.

I've memorized many of Tsoi's music, and many other Russian artist's. I can't say it necessarily helped my conversational Russian but it helped me to appreciate how the language can be abstracted and be beautiful, as well as improving my accent, reading and maybe vocabulary; but the songs would function as strung up words and syllables rather than slap-in-the-face definitions and ideas when I'd recite them, which would be frustrating because it feels like a complete error in my learning process - I'm just memorizing, not truly understanding. But this was due to primarily memorizing these songs at work, but since then, I've taken the time and have put diligent effort into studying the lyrics to the songs. It's a weird dilemma I found myself in. I loved the video. I'd love to see more of this content! Some poems would also be great.

This is great! Your insight into the meaning of the lyrics is really useful for a learner. If you consider doing another video I'd love to hear your thoughts/interpretation of Lumen - Гореть, Стигмата - Сентябрь or Слот - Круги на воде. I'm almost embarrassed to ask because I don't know how these bands and songs are liked by natives!

Прекрасное видео, но хочется добавить, что в песне "звезда по имени Солнце" в части "Одеялом лоскутным на ней Город в дорожной петле" говорится, что сам этот город словно одеялом лежит на белом снеге

This is an interesting format, so if possible, please do more of such explanation and translation of songs. I understand that song interpretation is subjective, but some explanation and thoughts are appreciated. Also, because they are songs, the words are chosen sometimes for cadence and rhyme, and as such, unusual or old words are used. Those are interesting.

Well, the song starts with the author pondering about the huge ancient industrial city where most likely he has lived his entire life and then it progresses to some of the more fundamental phylosophical questions. The way I percieve the part about the war is that humanity faces the most dangerous enemy of all - the nature itself, we all get older and then we die. The medicine cannot do anything about it but nevertheless it is in a constant war with 'the wrinkles', the fate favors those who are willing to 'take the risk, reaching the stars, not knowing the outcome of it' rather than those who do nothing, living their dull lives. These chosen ones sometimes become stars such as Tsoy himself. The overall feel of this masterpiece reminds me of Neil Young's 'it is better to burn out than to fade away'..

Viktor Tsoi was a rebel and an independent spirit. It is sad he left too early, especially the way he was taken.

This video is very nice and I am delighted that finally someone does an analysis of the songs of this great musical group. But a little constructive criticism to make that is that in your videos there is too much English and little Russian, since it is called Russian podcast I would have liked there to be a little more of Russian and a little less of English.

The blood thing is more about a cycle of death and rebirth than forgetting stuff or leaving no traces. Снова жива means that the blood spilled has given life to something new. Became substance for something else, just like it did with flowers and grass, but also gave way for another life. So yeah, rebirth and all that.
