BB you are absolutely amazing, your work on your channel is astounding and your production and direction ,impeccable. Your channel could easily be transferred to television as documentary material and would reach a wider audience that could and would appreciate the effort you create for an intense definitive and intelligent insight into the world of ABBA and the anthology of their life from the very beginning to at this exact moment. I now know why there is so much time between your posts on KZbin ,you are creating little MASTERPIECES of cinematography and dialogue about the one thing in life we share,the unrelentless,undying love and devotion for, ABBA .Thankyou for expanding my knowledge and awareness of ABBA and opening my mind with your research and detailed information. Here in Australia we never were able to access in any format the works of Agnetha Bjorn Benny and Annifrid before ABBA,but now ,now I have access to all their works through Spotify streaming service and can listen to everything they ever recorded, I love this new technology and it has opened my life to music I never knew existed.I have listened to Annifrids first solo album ,I don't understand Swedish but I listen in wonder and delight to the beautiful music and more importantly Annifrids incredible beautiful vocals she is astounding and mesmerising if she were American or English,at that time she would have topped the world music scene and charts,but she will forever be the hidden diamond for those who can truly appreciate and comprehend the beauty and emotion in her singing, even if you don't understand the words ,she delivers the atmosphere with the music and really the language is secondary.

First of all, I'm literally applauding to you right now for your beautiful words about ABBA, Frida and her 1st album. This is touching and so well put. Thanks, Michael! Secondly, I genuinely appreciate everything you feel about my videos. It's so much fun putting it together, and even more fun when - during my research - even I discover new details or fascinating context I didn't see before. But the most fun is going through the lovely comments, memories, and anecdotes of you people, this is just a big reward. Thanks for understanding why new videos sometimes take so long, I wish I had more time. Again, many thanks, dear Michael. Now, continue enjoying "Frida"!!

Thanks for this video about Frida. I agree, Frida has a unique voice and is able to express all kinds of emotions in a very sensitive and intelligent way. In particular she was / is also a very talented jazz singer. Her voice can be totally velvety, but also cut like a knife. (This takes nothing away from Agnetha who's also a wonderful singer with a unique voice). And Frida also has a wonderful, very intelligent, witty and modest personality.
@bobbysbrother1372 жыл бұрын
Beautiful description. I've read the word "velvety" a few times now, and it's bang on target. I enjoy this album more and more with each new listening. You're absolutely right about Frida's personality - I think her modesty has never been more enchanting than on her very first TV appearance - "Hylands Hörna" from 1967. She also performed her first song "En ledig dag", which is terrific, but that interview with her is too sweet!
@saba65022 жыл бұрын
@@bobbysbrother137 Thank you so much! Frida was also SO attractive, only had a few odd hairdos over the years. She probably didn't get quite the credit she would have deserved during the Abba years. And she managed to do so well later in life despite her rather hard childhood and youth. She's totally admirable and her voice is a really rare one. On the other hand it often makes me sad that many Abba fans - NOT you ! - compare Frida and Agnetha in a rather negative way. (Agnetha gets reduced to her long, blond hair and her bottom by these users. Probably due to the fact that Frida did not quite get the credit she deserved). I think she also was able to sing higher and Agnetha lower than many would expect. Abba wouldn't have been so successful without any of these 2, highly talented and beautiful singers. It's exactly their different voices and different looks that make Abba so attractive and unique.

I remember seeing this album in a shop, when I was a kid at the time Frida Ensam came out, but I only had the money for one album, and I bought Ensam. I didn't hear the album until the yellow compilation came out several decades later, but it's wonderful and her singing is so tender and sensitive. No wonder she got rave reviews when it came out.

It's a beautiful album. I first heard it in the late 90s when the 1967-72 compilation was released. I didn't expect to enjoy anything from that period but I was blow away by her performances - and sometimes the vocal work was far better than the song choices deserved. I programmed all of the songs from "Frida" together, so that I could get a sense of the album. It really is a wonderful set. It's unfortunate that EMI seemed incapable of handling such an artist. I was lucky enough to get the RSD reissue on vinyl in 1997. I think it might be the best of any of the vinyl reissues: the artwork is crisp, the mastering is lovely. The album deserves a proper reissue on CD and vinyl - I find it astonishing that it has been overlooked in that respect.

Carl Magnus Palm's excellent biography of ABBA 'Bright Lights Dark Shadows' shows that the early 70's was quite a dark and painful time for Frida. The divorce from Ragnar and subsequent time away from her children. This was followed by the passing of her grandmother (her surrogate mum) in October 1970. Already growing up with minimal family support, she pinned so much on being a success with music. The 'problem' with her early recordings was that the guy who signed her to EMI, producer Olle Bergman, was also a Jazz fan. Nothing wrong with that from an artistic point of view and she was critically acclaimed but not exactly a genre that was going to propel her up the Pop charts. She had the voice but needed more contemporary material. Although she did have a few top ten songs on the Svensktoppen chart , with Benny taking over as her producer, she had her first #1 hit.

Thanks for the additional info! These chapters by Carl Magnus Palm, the entire book, is so well written. I could really picture it all to make a terrific fairytale movie. As Björn said, if someone wrote ABBA's story as a fairytale, no one would believe it truly happened! Frida would actually continue to have more #1 hits, all since Benny took over!

Without really knowing why, I find it hard to listen to everything that was done before Abba. I recognize that these are quality pieces but I can not hang. @@bobbysbrother137 😁 The Cd arrived last week! Wow, I'm so impressed. The quality of the mastering is perfect, and the package/artwork involved is very beautiful indeed 🤗 Technicalities aside, listening to Frida's singing style during these years has me joyfully surprised. Her voice goes to places that are rarely found in the years that follow (maybe showing off her capabilities to early audiences). Her high pitched notes on "En Ledig Dag", using her voice where a trumpet might have been is genius (and very pretty). I recognise many songs via their English versions by other artists, but hearing Frida perform them is wonderful. Right at this moment (on an early Sunday morning) I'm playing disc 2, and one word comes to mind... "Soothing" 🤗 I'm very taken by "Barnen Sover" 💗💗💗

Since 1976 when ABBA came to my life as an important part, I tried to collect and get everything that was available these days, sure it was only vinyl. Over the years and decades the collection became more complex and I remember that I sung most of these songs in that phonetic swedish language that I understood, sometimes there were text flyers included but not always, so I found my own german way of singing swedish language… must be horrible for native swedish speakers… 😂 But what I felt than and still feel today, that the songs Frida brought to my life are completely different to the ones Agnetha sung. Two very special but very different voices with a 100% feeling for melancholy. Said so many times before, these ingriedients are the magic of ABBA, we all know, but when coming to the times in the 80th. when ABBA split, the songs of Frida have been much more complex and serious to me than the ones of Agnetha‘s solo projects. That is one explanation to me, why I was more related to the Frida songs. But sure, this has changed after Agnetha released „my coloring book“ in 2004. With this album and also „A“ she got back to my horizon of contemporary musicians. Now I wrote a lot, not sure if this has something to do with the question BB asked here…. Anyway, it is unbelievable to me thinking of a world without ABBA‘s music. And even now we need the „ode to freedom“ more urgent than ever expected. Take care guys! Frank

I absolutely *loved* reading these memories and thoughts. So great to see how much Agnetha's "My Colouring Book" and "A" means to you in context. Also, your description of Agnetha's and Frida's feeling for melancholy as the magic ingredient of ABBA is spot on. Thanks for your wonderful comment, Frank!

I think I first got hold of the vinyl reissue of this album, with Min Egen Stad on it probably from HMV on import in the late 70's or very early 80's. Finding the records before ABBA became ABBA officially was virtually impossible in the UK before the internet developed. Personally, I find the 'Frida' album an absolute joy to listen to, her voice and vocal range is so impressive and the whole album is a thing of great beauty and one I still listen to a lot.

I wish Frida 1967-72 was easier to find. I burned it off via Sidify. The cover of Can't keep my Eyes Off Of You or Du Är Så Underbart Rar, is my all time favorite Frida song. The joy and exuberence just pops out of the speakers. Brass instruments and electric organ give it a Swinging Sixties vibe.

Yes, John, this is one of my favorites, too, from her early singles! Fantastic compilation, I wish it was still available. And they could even put it out as a beautiful vinyl edition, the artwork is gorgeous.

Well Bobby's Brother you sure do know your music 🎶 & it is certainly very interesting to see & hear information on the band members that most of us never knew before...Frida is a very very talented lady in her own right & pit together with Agnetha made her 'complete' in music 🎶 terms...thank you for a very informative review.

Hej Yes BB I love this album and all her solo works along with Agnethas and both Benny and Bjorns 🙌 Thankyou again for your impeccably robust analysis of this album it’s true the journey to the ABBA sound wee all love and know is transcendental from all the four members individual earlier works and each individually developed there trademark sounds 💕 I adore Fridas Swedish solo recordings you definitely feel the velvety tones and jazzy vocals from these recordings her deep ranges just transcends you into a trancelike state of pure magic musical states 😆 It’s almost hypnotic u know 😉

You hit the bullseye, abbascots. *Yes* , I couldn't agree more with your beautiful descriptions - you truly feel the music of all four individually and in unison. Transcending hypnosis is just the right description, especially for "Frida" (1971). I can't stop listening to this album, and especially "Suzanne" and "Barnen sover" are so true to your description. You'll get lost in 'em. Thanks for your wonderful feedback!!

Hey Hey Bobby. This time you have me at a disadvantage. I knew Frida was a star in her own right however I have never herd any of the albums . This I will try to remedy. If you do another episode like this could you translate the names of the songs in English. Always enjoy your take and explanations. 🇺🇸
@bobbysbrother1372 жыл бұрын
Hej Fritzie, thanks for the feedback. I'll give some English titles, not all, and it's quite fitting to what I feel about the Swedish material - you don't necessarily need to understand the words. Either way, if you check the English Wikipedia entry for the album, the song titles are translated. Greetings to the United States!

This is the album of Frida's that I don't have. I tried looking for the cd of her early Swedish recordings in 2014/5 and was surprised at the ridiculous price it was going for. At the time it was priced at £500 and I don't have that sort of money. How do these people sleep, charging fans these stupid prices.

Thanks Toby and Lex. I saw it on Amazon at the time. I looked on eBay after writing my original comment and found the 67-72 album for under £24 which I didn't mind paying. So now my Frida album collection will be complete.

It's unfortunate that "Frida 1967-1972" is long out of print and is being sold for horrendous prices. Now, I think you've secured a reasonable deal for one of the finest ABBA-related releases. So happy for you!!
@WhitneyHouston4eva12 жыл бұрын
@@bobbysbrother137 I thought I'm getting this while it was at a reasonable price. Agnetha's 6 cd set that was released around the same time also goes for silly money these days. People charge these prices coz they know if someone really wants it they will pay these silly prices.

Yes, that's almost right! Frida recorded "Nu vissla vi ett slag" for a Snow White LP in 1971. Agnetha recorded "Snövit och de sju dvärgarna" for her debut album in 1968. Both are different songs, but related to Snow White, and they are both very charming.

@@bobbysbrother137 Yes, that's it. I should have remembered. I haven't heard it in a long time, but recall that I liked it! Somewhere Agnetha said she was embarrassed about the lyrics to Snovit(which she wrote), but since I don't speak Swedish they seem good enough to me!
