"Unknown Waters" film: • Digital Dave presents ...
Before/After Visual Effects of my Subnautica fan film "Unknown Waters". All live action footage was shot on greenscreen which required tons of roto cleanup, 3d tracking and chroma keying to achieve the finished look. This is so amazing and incredible, the animations were so beautiful, the Aurora, the lifepods, and even the peeper's animation was amazing, I can't imagine how much time it took to make this, very awesome

Gotta love how you had the nerf gun loaded with a bullet, could see you firing it haha! It's incredible to see everything was done in your home(?) and then with a lot of dedicated work and animation, changed into quite a memorable fanfilm. Hoped to see others being inspired to make more subnautica fanfilms. Very good job on this, mate.

The film was inspired by the degasi because of the ill health line and how it looked. Great film. One of the best short films ive ever watched.

First off: I was genuinely wondering how you did the swimming and... Really everything else where you're interacting with stuff that clearly isn't a prop. Second off: You called the planet "53B" but in the game it's called "4546B" so I just wanna know... Why?

@@ian7019 I don't really think so. I mean, they provided some stuff to him and the creature looking very similar. Fan-movies and Fan-arts are indeed a little bit tricky because of the copyright, but when you call it a fan film, the publisher is happy because its free advertising for his product. As long as it is not harming the brand and wich real fan does wants to harm the game he love?

Saw this and thought I'd check it out. Was surprised by the thin cloth greenscreen that you could get a good clean key like that. I have one pretty similar to that 15x20 I think mine is. So my question is, what camera did you use? Seems like a 4:4:4 camera would make keying a LOT easier.. the quality is pretty great visually and given what you had, this turned out great.

I shoot with a sony a6300, it was a dodgy key 99% of the time so I had to manually roto out most of the tracking markers and light bleeds :(
