Upholstery is one of those trades that's become a lost art. Some people can perform magic with fabric and leather. Good thing you were able to find the exact fitting cover. All-in-all, it came out great. Nice work Jimmy!! 👏💪🔥

Mr. Jimmy, another excellent video, thank you. I really appreciate your really enthusiastic and really well thought out approach to each of your videos--yes, I am riffing a little on your dialog, but I really like it; it's so you. Many of us diy'ers on this side of the screens get to a point and say, "that's good enough." The fact that you don"t and go ahead and add the necessary effort to make each task as nearly perfect as possible is much needed example for each of us.

Took me 8 hours to do the two front seats in my 03 GX470. A lil tip. Use steam on the foam. It’s brings it back to life.

Super job Jimmy, looks great? I'm in the same boat with my 2004 Volvo. I can't find anything remotely reasonable and about to go with covers. Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see what's next.

Nice job Jimmy. I can really understand what you had to go through. I did the same type of job on one of my classic cars. The Hog Rings were my biggest challenge. I had a cheap hog ring pliers and kept dropping the hog rings. I did buy a better pliers and it made the job so much easier. The seat back was another interesting fight. I can't wait to see how you handle it.

I also did this EXACT repair on a 2003 4Runner yesterday. I’m debating on trying to redo the seat backs but can’t find any videos for the seat backs on a 4th gen which makes me nervous.

Glad you got rid of that nervous chuckle from your earlier videos.

I've done a few of these types of jobs and that d/s "pucker" you're seeing is where the factory foam has slightly collapsed from sliding in and out over time. I simply add some half inch foam over that area to build it up, then shape it with a new razor blade. Great job for your first time 👍

Thanks! Yes, I thought about adding foam but didn’t want to do a bad job. I think if I had to do it again I would be more confident.

The number one reason for a crappy recover job is NOT replacing the foam, why spend 200$ for new leather and NOT replace a 50$ foam.

Here's why you NEVER MESS with your Factory Seat Covers 👍

Almost

Another option when dealing with worn driver side seat bottom is to swap the passenger and driver lower portion of the seat. Usually at the factory they are made to fit on either side with the bolt connection that attach the lower seat portion identical. I've done this when looking for a seat at the salvage yard were the driver side is worn but the passenger side is in good shape, so a buy the passenger side then do the swap. You can't do this with the back portion because of the airbag.
