Very nice find and prep, I bet you're pleased you took it home. Lytoceras are probably my favourite looking ammonite.

Over the moon with the result especially after that break when I found it. They are a gorgeous group of ammonites! Wish I had some with the flares preserved on them. One day maybe!

Totally with you on a light touch on the prep - I really don't like it when someone takes off an outer whorl because it was imperfect, they're just changing something that has lasted over 100 million years for aesthetics. That Lytoceras looks great, particularly given the unpromising condition it was in when you found it (and hit it!).

I would love to have not hit the rock but alas, sometimes you just don't know what you've got til you've seen the mess you made it. Thankfully Shaun did a wonderful prep and brought it back to its glory. He also was quite happy to follow my instruction to keep it as original as possible and I couldn't be happier! I think the exploded body chamber here (and in many Pseudos) actually are beautiful additions rather than imperfections to remove.

@@dinoskool yeah, they're too heavy to carry all the potentials back so I understand giving some of them without external evidence a whack! Lucky that they normally split ok, unlike the green ammonite nodules down south. Excellent prep in the end and a great result :)

Thank you! Super happy and excited to share. Also to tease it's not the most exciting thing Shaun prepped for me...

@dinoskool I'm not surprised! It's a beauty 😃 oh cannot wait to see what other fossily beauties you'll be sharing next 👍🏼 we have a few in with Mark Smith at present, we're hoping they're complete or close to it as they'll be some new species for us 🤞🏼

I've got 2 Harpos on the way back from Mark S as well hopefully on Saturday. Lots of fun things to make my birthday (ish) extra fantastic with fossils. Look forward to hearing about yours!

@dinoskool Thanks 😃 Great timing for your birthday 👍🏼 I'm not sure which is the most exciting, finding the fossils or the anticipation of how they'll look after prep! 😂 they both take some beating haha

For sure! I think now I've seen how many look promising fossils turn out to then be missing middles or broken etc, the anticipation is the best/worst feeling

Absolutely brilliant Andrew what a find of that lytoceras!!! a wonderful ammonite, and to think you were contemplating leaving it behind 😮😮 not many of these pop out eh mate, a very rare species to add to your collection 👍⚒️

Yeah it's funny to me watching that video that leaving it behind even crossed my mind. It clearly was different and rare, just a bit mangled by my hitting it 😅. I know you like the tease, but this isn't the super rare thing to show off 🤫

Been very lucky with finds in the last year. Long may it last. Having my prep setup helps too as I can clear some of the small things out of my prep pile and ensure only good ones go off to the experts. Also some Harpos coming back to me from ages ago so lots of exciting finds to show off!

Yes I think it is sublineatum. I find them in the cotswolds sands very occasionally.
