I just finished reading the book and began looking for someone who gave it a review. I agree with you wholeheartedly. This book was amazing. The emotions were amazing. It made you really invest in this family’s relationship.

Exactly!! I think that’s what made it so good is that they were characters you actually cared about! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! 😊

I think my favourite this about the couple, above many others, was the respect and awareness they provided their kids with. The fact that they took their time to explain to Deja after she had found out. And the hurt that I envisioned Yasmin with when Deja told her that it was her fault that their family was “dysfunctional”. I absolutely loved the fact that she accepted and apologized to her daughter without trying to blame anyone or anything else for her hurt about the way she reacted around the time of the divorce. I won’t lie, Deja was starting to get on my nerves… but also appreciate the way Kennedy gave us a glimpse of why she acted the way she did. They treated their kids like regular humans and did not try to sugarcoat anything. When Deja was bad talking her mother to her father, Si was quick to correct her, which is what a father should do whether he is hurt or not, in my opinion… I have a lot to say but I’ll leave it at that. 😂 Sorry any typos I might have made 😭

I truly appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment!! 🤗 I agree the level of accountability that the characters displayed was refreshing. I also appreciate how Kennedy Ryan normalized therapy in the book as a way to help people move through trauma and to improve communication skills.

I believe Kennedy Ryan wrote that Thanksgiving scene for the other woman to see what needed to be seen so the other woman can walk away with her dignity in tack

I don’t doubt it! But you’ve definitely got to be secure in yourself and in a good place mentally/emotionally to invite a man you STILL love to dinner with his new woman! 🤣

Enjoyed your review. I loved this book. It wasn’t superficial. It showed the ups and downs but more than anything…it showed that when you do the work…the outcome can be so rewarding. The author afforded the reader the opportunity to move away from the taboo as to how many see therapy. Definitely recommending this book to others as well as checking out other reads from the author.

This book was so emotionally charged, I didn't expect to be sucked in and so involved in their relationship. I especially didn't expect to have such mixed feelings about the daughter. Overall, I looooooved this book, the first one I read from Kennedy Ryan and definitely not the last ! Keep up the good work ! :)

Thanks for watching and commenting! I didn’t expect to get so sucked in either! Lol! Yeah, I was annoyed by the daughter’s antics too. I get that she was having a hard time with her parent’s divorce but she was a little too disrespectful! 🤨 Overall very well written and she made you invested in the outcome.

I’ll be honest, I’ve reread this book at least once a month since it came out, it is just that good to me. I haven’t read another black romance like it (besides Revive Me part 1 by JL Seegars) where the characters are complex and endearing. I could see both sides to their love story and I could understand why Yasmeen asked for the divorce and I could understanding why Josiah was reluctant and just heart broken. It was an amazing book. Do you have any recommendations of books like this? Of course I’ve read Tia Williams but I’m not looking for another book that gives level of depth in a romance book. Please let me know!
