Hi, This wasn't our annual vacation, we have lived in Spain for almost 6 years and love to visit all the beautiful places in our region. We have just sold our home, have bought a motorhome and will now be traveling further afield to find the beautiful places of the world. Thanks for watching 💜🤟

You're very welcome Paulette. Moraira is beautiful and has many more coves other than Cala Moraig. It's well worth a visit. Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

There's a nice mirador called el mirador poble nou. Its near cala moraig. From that point on you have clear view of Calpe, Javea/Xabia etc. Really nice! 😊

26 years ago, Moraira was very similar to how it is now. Moraira f as a little ishing port was many many many years before,. The main difference now since 26 years ago is, the restaurantes Bars and many Shops are more upmarket than they used to be.

That's really interesting and we presume you have lived there for a very long time. We were shown some photos of the area dated 1997 and the town looked completely different and a fraction of the size. Maybe the photos had the wrong date on them? Thanks for watching and your comment, much love Darren & Alison 🤟♥️

@@findingxanadulife The pictures in the "Castillo" are more likely from the late 50s/ early 60s. In quite a lot of old bars and restaurants you can often find more pictures from that time and they pretty much look like those pictures in the Castle. My house was build in 75/76 in one of the first urbanizaciones, hence it is only a 10minute walk to the city centre. From what my spanish neighbour has told me I´d assume that Moraira started growing rapidly in the last years under Franco and it only accelerated once he was no longer in power. Portet used to be another fishing village, even smaller than Moraira itself, if you would have continued down the road when you went up those stairs you would have gotten there in 10-15min walking. It has a very neat little beautiful beach with some bars/restaurants right up against the beach. The water is extremly clear and turquoise and most of the time it is not as crowded as l´Ampolla(the main beach in Moraira). But parking is a huge problem, even tho there are two little carparks, that´s why i would recommend walking from Moraira. It is a very beautiful walk right at the edge of a cliff for the most part, with stunning views. Nowadays Portet and Moraira have grown into one undistingishable town, and I think Portet is now a part of Teulada-Moraira. Fun little sidenote: The two "skyscraper" are in Portet and were build without a permission from the city counsil and instead of demolishing them the town chose to keep them as a reminder never to allow/permit any buildings taller then 3 stories in new development areas. The hike you wanted to take would have taken you to a small rock beach which was used for smuggeling, it was such a problem that the police even built a little outpost at the beach to stop that. I highly recommend that beach if you want to be alone, there is barley anybody ever, because it is quite a hike to get there.

Oh wow, Moraira (sounds like Mariah) looks absolutely wonderful. That eroded rock and all those cliffs and coves, so stunning - reminds of the Algarve a bit! 12 euros, yikes! I swear in Spain we rarely saw much by way of high parking prices, if we saw them at all (we didn't consciously avoid them either) so to see parking more expensive than the UK is a bit strange! But sometimes it's absolutely worth it and that place clearly was. That said, it did remind us how overnighting in our campervan in Spain was not easy at all by the coast (very easy inland) so maybe that's happening a lot with car parks. As always, lovely food again too 😋 Great little vlog and lovely to revisit your first town and restaurant 🤟
@findingxanadulife Жыл бұрын
Darren often misspells Moraira, but he says he doesn't Carey...🤪 Expensive parking isn't normally a thing here as the Spanish hate paying at all. You will always find a free carpark full and a paid carpark virtually empty on a normal day, but I guess these places make the most of the tourists who will pay it. It wouldn't have stung so badly if we'd had the whole day there. We do love Moraira and have been several times, especially if we crave Fish and Chips, there is a British run fish and chip restaurant called 'Fishy, Fishy', between the beach and the carpark we parked in. They put orange in their coleslaw, which is surprisingly good. 😁 There is a good ice-cream shop near the beach too, called Tutto Frutto. They have great sorbets. 😍 💜🤟
@comealongdear Жыл бұрын
@@findingxanadulife Oh well, Carey on regardless 🤪 It's impressive you both know how to pronounce everything so well, although I suppose 6 years of living there helps! With us, what I (Dan) find irritating is not that we don't try to learn, because we do, contrary to what our videos may seem like, but that trying to look up an accurate pronunciation of an obscure place is very difficult...and you're never sure if it's correct when you do find it, so tend to shy away from saying it! All part of the fun though, and overseas visitors must think they've entered a fictional world when trying to pronounce some of our towns. Amazing that you could get fish and chips - definitely one of the foods we'd miss the most!

Loved this and we love Moraira. Although, it is quite touristy, there is something so relaxed about the town. We love nothing more than a walk around the town in the morning or evening. Also, can't believe we have visited Cala Del Moraig several times and yet were oblivious to the stunning Falla Moraig being a few hundred metre walk away. Oh well, next time. It looks like you can no longer drive down the hill and park by the beach?
@findingxanadulife Жыл бұрын
I'm sure we only found the Falla Moraig as we were looking for the hike to the other coves. 🤣😂 We'll try again at some point. It said that the parking at the bottom was just disabled parking. When did you and Sarah last go..?!? 💜🤟
@barryweeks6037 Жыл бұрын
@@findingxanadulife probably 4-5 years!! Time gets warped by the covid years. We used to drive down and park near the bar by the beach or near the bottom of the hill. I can understand why, as, even out of season it was busy, so guess in summer it would be chaos

In Teulada-Moraira they have declared a state of drought, and have announced that the water supply is not drinkable. The population is buying bottled water. What do you think of this situation?
@findingxanadulife3 ай бұрын
Hi Susana, That's a very sad situation, that is unfortunately shared by a lot of the Spanish regions this year. 🫤💜🤟
@susanaescriba9773 ай бұрын
@@findingxanadulife Yes, but tourism continues to consume the population's resources. What is your opinion on that?
@findingxanadulife3 ай бұрын
@susanaescriba977 Personally we don't believe that tourism is the main problem. There are countries that are hotter, drier and have more tourism, but don't have the problem, as they have invested money into sustainable solutions. The big issue is how would Spain fund this..? We don't believe that removing the income from tourism is the answer. 💜🤟
@susanaescriba9773 ай бұрын
@@findingxanadulife But the existing infrastructures are what they are and if mass tourism is destroying them, disregarding the needs of the population, it is an abuse. For example, I am not going to restrict the use of water necessary for my children and my daily life, so that you as a tourist come to waste that water, without caring a fig, or being aware of anything that goes beyond that than your own selfish enjoyment .
@findingxanadulife3 ай бұрын
The problem with your issue is that tourism drains less than 1% of the Spanish water supply (from Spanish Government figures). So in the case of Moreira which quotes that 19% of its Income is from Tourism. You make the local environment 19% poorer to regain less than 1% of the water supply. We know this is frustrating for you, but removing tourists will not solve the problem. It will however give the area bigger financial problems. Finding sustainable long term solutions will always be a preferred option over finger pointing. Either way thank you for your comment and we do honestly hope your difficulties end soon 🤟♥️
