The Tellarites exemplify the "agree to disagree" perspective. All points are valid to them if said points can be argued effectively.

I was hoping in Enterprise we would see more of the founding races. I remember initially being disappointed that Phlox wasn't a Tellarite.

Agent Gambut no kidding. I said I was disappointed he wasn't a Tellarite, it would have brought Tellarite into the show.

Vontux I agree mostly but the tcw could have been included as 6 episode arc or something smaller scale but it spanned two seasons instead of 1/4-1/2 of a season.

Good point. With them introducing new species all the time, they should have taken the opportunity to flesh out one of the originals. Make Phlox a Tellarite and you now have 3/4 of the UFP's founders regularly working together for the first time. Granted, they did an awful job writing Human-Vulcan friction, so a different species probably wouldn't be any different.

Tellarites remind me of New Yorkers... crass, sometimes rude, hard to become friends with, but a good friend in a pinch nonetheless.

You left out Shran's reason for the Duel, which was to avenge the death of his XO/mate after one of the Tellerite diplomats shot Shran's mate/XO who then after complications died from the wound caused by the shot.

In my Head canon Tellarites are the bureaucratic power of the Federation. The unseen ones in the back door chambers how make the Federation bureaucracy work like a well oiled machine :P

That makes a lot of sense and would be a good way to explain why they aren't seen much in universe. The Humans and Andorians lean more towards military service while the Vulcans have tended to act as the diplomats.

My head canon is that uniforms were brightly coloured so that Tellarites could easily identify people's department from a distance.

I've always wondered why the Denobulans didn't join as founding members of the Federation. It almost seems as though they had a closer bond with Humans than Tellarites did.

The impression I got from the Tellarites in Enterprise is that while they have some diplomatic relations with Vulcan and a tense one with the Andorians is that they are the weakest of the four founding races. Note races as Alpha Centauri despite being human colonized it is among the five founding members of the Federation. Meaning it was independent of United Earth. Why is it the weakest? Well that Tellarite bounty hunter was a freighter captain that got his ship stolen and kidnapped Archer so he can buy his ship back. Klingon dare not enter Vulcan space in Enterprise and DSC gives us a good reason why. I assume Andorians would be similar daunting to Klingons of the era. Archer notes the Tellarites argumentive nature makes them good politicians. In TOS we see the Tellarite ambassador argue against Corridan's application to the Federation. Serving as a devil's advocate of a sort. Not to mention Tellarites had mining interests on Corridan.

The Tellarites comes across as the Dwarfs of the original 4. The Vulcans being the Elves. The Andorians don't have as much of a clear connection to a standard fantasy race but could be considered to be any warrior or Arctic dwelling race

I always found it funny how Enterprise lead up to the Tellarites reveal on their show. They were used as a type of insult in a number of instances up till they introed that merc who captured Archer for the Klingon bounty.

Lore Reloaded, I have an interesting bit of beta-cannon that is now rendered defunct that you might find at least entertaining, concerning the Tellarites. This comes from a book, printed in 1980, called the "Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology". It's a fun book to read, as it covers Earth's space history from about 1957 to the start of the 2200s. It apparently breaks all kind of cannon, including such tidbits as Zefrem Cochrane being an Alpha Centurian who explained his theory about generating a warp field to the visiting human crew of a sublight exploration ship. Anyway, the Tellarites. I will now quote a passage from the book. CELESTIAL NEIGHBORS CLAIM OUR SOLAR SYSTEM - Earth and Tellar begin alliance after unusual incident - 2073 - UNSS Bonhomme Richard, Liberty Class; Abel Niwen, Admiral WHile the first meeting between Tellar and Earth had its awkward moments, as described by the following Log, these two worlds went on to become allies and trading partners. After over a decade of growing interaction and disputation, Earth and Tellar joined together with other charter members to form the United Federation of Planets Admiral's Log: The crisis is over, and the first interstellar hostilities have been resolved without a single laser being discharged. I've relaxed Fleet Battlestations and halted the Sixth Fleet reinforcements advance at Neptune. The war 's over before it began, and it appears, though I'm damned if I understand it, that we've just gained a new interstellar ally, the Tellarites. I'm proud to report our Solar Defense Perimeter functioned superbly in this, its first test ever. Pluto Base stellar radar picked up the rapid approach of an alien vessel, and by the time it arrived, ten cruisers had been deployed to meet the ship, a modest-looking craft with foreign markings. Then things became peculiar. In crude, gutteral English, a gruff voice broadcast to us the surprising news that we had just been claimed as an addition to the Tellarite Territories, and that if we did not immediately surrender, we would be summarily destroyed. Here was a lone, somewhat backward looking ship, threatening ten heavily armed cruisers with extinction. Did they have a secret super-weapon on board? I doubted it. So in my best diplomatic voice, I called their bluff. I welcomed them to our Solar System, said we were always delighted to meet new intelligent lifeforms, and told them if they made a single hostile movement, we would destroy their ship. A very long silence followed, broken finally by the still gruff voice accepting our offer of friendship and exclaiming that as allies we would be an invincible duo. SO there it is. We have met the Tellarites and apparently are now their allies. I wonder if they're always so combative. It's the strangest war I've ever fought.
