Great farm tour Serena, thank you! It's lovely to see what's happening now that fall has really settled in. I'm surprised you're not heating up the polytunnels, if not for the dahlias which are super cold sensitive but just to keep the lysianthus going for a bit longer. Whilst my tunnels are smaller than yours, I set up some heaters (terracotta pots, sand and tea lights) to keep mine above freezing. I'm able to bump up the temperature by 6-7 degrees °C with only a couple of them. You probably would have to have more (maybe one every running meter in the tunnels) on frosty nights but you would be able to keep so many plants blooming for longer!

Wow...that peony field will be great to have! So the farm is going to have to go to sleep...just rest a bit. Hopefully, Ian can use some tractor power to help throw down those tulips! I have my small areas cleaned out. I still had about three Cabernet stock plants that decided to bloom again! That was a treat, and there was 1 poor honey bee trying to forage on it!! We've had 3/4 frosts...z.5. Lucky to have the flower stand to sell your last few bouquets. I'm thinking I'd like to have a flower stand somewhere..and let the market go. But, I'd miss the people I've come to know. I hope you saved a couple of videos for us to see in the winter!!!! But...I like re-runs, too!!

The flowers are still so beautiful! I think not having them over the winter will just make the spring rewards that much sweeter! Ohhh, your wedding pictures are so pretty (and handsome)! You both look awesome all dressed up! You guys were STYLIN'! Thanks for the share! And a great farm tour - how could it not be! And just look at all those tulip bulbs dreaming their tulip dreams in your cooler. Sleep, baby tulips, sleep...and we'll see you in the spring!

OH i just got an idea for you... Get used christmas balls from your thrift stores, all sizes and colors.. Glue the straw flowers to the outside and completely cover the ball, a tiny bit of faux or real christmas greenery at the top with a little pretty bow... You would have almost no cost in them. The texture would be amazing, they would be beautiful. The kids can even help. I think i want to make some now!!!!! If you do them, please show us!!

Lovely garden tour. What you dislike about cosmos is what I love about them: That they are gloriously chaotic and exuberant. If you want to contain the cosmos a bit, try running a string maybe a couple feet up along the edge of the bed. The thin stems should be easy to keep inside the string "wall".

Have you considered putting up the low-tunnels you used to overwinter the greens a few years ago, to overwinter your semi-perennial plants?
@YouCantEatTheGrass Жыл бұрын
Low tunnels are tricky because they get hot fast, so need to be opened up early on sunny days, and I don't want to fight with snow and plastic all winter, so I'm fine with some winter kill

If you close the high tunnel during the day the warm ground can be a heat sink and retain the heat from during the day to keep things warmer in the cold unless you have a lot of wind. I’m guessing you already know that.

I know you guys are probably very exhausted right now, however, I have been thinking. Have you ever tried to overwinter the dahlia? As they are in a hoop house, why not try over wintering? If you put straw or compost on them there a chance they won't freeze and their already protected from the winter wet. If them make it through the winter it would be so much more profitable for you. Even if only 50% of them made it, you could just divide them. I think it worth a try . Sorry I know I am being a armchair farmer, but a next day of work could make dahlias profitable for you. Just a thought, love your channel.

I wish you good luck in the race to get everything ready before frost comes ( hopefully better than last year 😂). Would you consider investing in evergreens for Christmas wreath to sell at the booth? I’m asking in pure self interest as I cannot get enough of your farm videos and my annual withdrawal is coming soon lol. I know the flower ones weren’t profitable but I’m already dreaming beautiful evergreen wreath decorated with dried grass, flowers and even berries by Serina…. Unrelated but I’m super excited to hear about the recap for this year and next year plan!
