I love that you repeat the name of the flower while you talk about it. I wouldn’t mind seeing the names onscreen. Sometimes people will flash the name and I never have enough time to read it before it’s gone again. Thank you!

I usually try to do that when I'm doing unboxings and seed stuff, but it adds like 8 hours to the editing, lol, and Ian won't do it, so I'm not ready to commit to titles for the farm tours. For a quick fix, you could try turning on the CC on your youtube. I usually have mine on, and I find it does a really good job of catching the correct words. And then you can pause the video to take notes. Which helps me get the names of stuff when I'm looking for it myself

Planting garlic, chives, leeks, catnip, fennel, dill and cilantro will help repel aphids. Marigolds are also known to drive away a number of unwanted pests. Research good companion plants for these garden additions and place them wisely, they can help a lot

We made them for the first time this week, and they sold well. I'm excited to see how they do for Thanksgiving next week. But I'm still crunching numbers - they are actually pretty costly to make, and I'm not sure if I'm making money with selling them for $20. We filmed this after a shower, but before I did any work - good hair, lol. It makes me giggle, because its one of those things that gets lost in translation in the process of film making. In real life, no one sees my hair. But for videos, I always take my hat off, because the camera can't focus on my face properly.

Someone told me about soaking cinnamon sticks in very hot water which acts like a deterrent to mold, fungi on plant leaves. Right get those aphids off too. Plus it smells good. Dilute 1 litre into 2 or 3 litres and spray. Yeah, it's the time when nature spreads seeds, so enjoy you chard, which just might survive the winter. It's sweeter after first light frost too.

When you talk about cost, time management, etc., it would seem to me to be more efficient and prudent with your money to order plugs for the week you want to grow them out. Now is the time for bulk order discounts and you can choose the week you want them delivered. As a home grower, I'm ordering all my perennials and getting them at an average price of $1.82 each including shipping. You can get your annuals, too. I figured out the cost of soil, perlite, vermiculite, peat moss, water, electric, and my time. I decided it was worth it. God Bless and have a wonderful holiday season! I presume you're doing your Christmas show, so I wish you a sell out!

I love the smell of marigolds. I love that after picking them my clothes will smell like them for a day. But I know not everyone is like me. Most of the scent is in the greenery, so if you remove the leaves, they shouldn't have any scent in the home

@@YouCantEatTheGrass I did notice there was a lot less smell once I took them inside to dry. Thanks for the tip! I think the strength of the smell had to do with how many I planted and the fact that the plants were huge so it makes sense that the scent is from the plant itself

I’d love to know where you found the information on aster yellows on statice. I’ve searched quite a bit and can’t find a link between the two. Aster yellows generally affects plants in the asteracea family, which limonium is not a member of. My statice had red leaves and stems from the get go and didn’t thrive so I’d like confirmation that this could be aster yellows. Thank you.
@YouCantEatTheGrass
@YouCantEatTheGrass Жыл бұрын
There was a conversation going on on Instagram from some other flower farmers. The sustainable flowers podcast is going to be doing an episode on it. I can guarantee that it affects a lot more plants then asters though. I get it like crazy in my rudbeckia and cosmos, and I won't plant echinatia because of it. I never thought about it in the statice before, but others were saying that the same thing on their farm was asters yellow. Obviously, I'm not going to test anything on my farm, so I don't know for sure. But it makes sense

@YouCantEatTheGrass

The aphid problem when I get it, is bigger then ladybugs can handle. We have some natural predators that will keep stuff from spreading, like ladybugs and wasps, but when the plants aren't thriving, it's only a matter of time before the bugs are back

Do pussy willows grow well in your area? I know there are cultivars that are black and pink. They’re great in spring bouquets and always a good accent in dried flower arrangements. Or are they just so common that no one would be interested in them? Cattails are a great accent in a bouquet as well. The pencil cattails are especially nice in fall arrangements. However, they like wet conditions which I know you don’t have. Pity you don’t have a little stream running through your property. Looking forward to your Thanksgiving bouquets. I’m guessing you’ve been really really busy this week. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving (and a profitable one).💕😊🧙

I wonder if that is what os going on with my zinnias?!? I've beek having sn issue this year with my zinnias only lasting about 2 days before turning brown & ugly... i havent seen the brown spotd yet, but my zinnias do get downy mildew & powdery mildew every year. So i wonder if it's in the soil, causing the symptoms, bit jist hasnt affected the foliage yet. Zinnias are like my main focal flower/money maker, & I hadn't gotten sooooo discouraged because I'm like if this is going to be an every year thing- "am I going to be able to have a profitabpe business? "
@YouCantEatTheGrass
@YouCantEatTheGrass Жыл бұрын
The more I crunch the numbers, the less profitable zinnias seem. They are just so delicate and fussy. It's nice that they are so simple, but as I figure out more crops, I'm less focused on them being my main focal. One thing to consider, because I don't see this talked about often, but I've definitely seen a correlation. If you have a water softener - the salt that it adds to the water zaps zinnias (also rudbeckia). Not very many crops react in the same way, but the softened water will kill a zinnia in 2-3 days, and in that black crispy way, similar to the look of downy mildew

Did you know sedums root easily. Just cut off a stem and stick it in the ground and next year it will grow to be a whole new plant. I cut a bunch of mine off because they flopped too the ground and stuck them in a watering can and within a week they all had roots growing out everywhere. Soo easy!

Will never understand why these two need two individuals to create their videos. One holding the camera and the other doing the talking.I would say 99% of the flower growers on KZbin do just fine with one person creating the videos. Then almost every single week these two complain of not having enough time to create bouquets for the market. Time management please Ian and Serena. Geez.
