A home is suppose to be lived in. Not a museum. People that have museum homes, I have found are very stuffy and pretentious. (I owned a cleaning business)

There's an old saying my mom used to say, you came to visit me, not my house if you don't like it there's the door. My feelings have always been a house is a lived in house, not a museum. Where everything is spotless, and uncomfortable to be in. i love your house! Y'all are busy canning, cooking, preserving, food saving, harvesting, taking care of family, and getting ready for a class. Life is good!!!

Looks like a kitchen in full preservation season mode to me. If there's a way to do that neatly, I've never seen it. 😁 Add an infant and classes to that, the fact that you have more than paths is a near miracle.

I did a giggle when you apologized for the untidy house - really? - so you are a family of 8 living in a two bedroom home, who homestead and cook all their own food, you are cooking, curing bacon and getting ready for the final harvest of the year and lets not forget you have a pig butchering workshop to get ready for. - in my house when we are that busy, if the dishes are done and the floors sweep then we call it good
@camicri4263Ай бұрын
I agree
@denisewilson8367Ай бұрын
When my 8 kids were home there was always chaos in my kitchen. That's the heart of your home. It's where everyone congregated. Saving all possible edibles and animal goodies means the garden season is finally over. I look forward to it by then. But the processing of food is not over until all the culled animals are taken care of. So, 3 more months to go.

I've been having a stressful time lately with lots of mental load. Today is the first day that I decided to stop rotting and do something. Got up, went to the gym, came home, made breakfast and decided to watch some YT while eating. Opened the app and saw your faces and my first thought was 'Oh look, it's the people that make my heart happy.' And I felt like you should know that. Thank you for making my heart happy ❤

Never apologize about your house. All that is done in that house is made with love. My house is a wreck most of the summer starting w/my beet harvest in early May and I am still canning tomatoes. Then we will butcher hogs in the late fall. If people don't like the way my house looks, they are not friends/family. All of our family and friends know that we actually live and love in our house and that is the way we feel about y'all. We are family even though we have never met. Great video! Oh, and I like "wiggly bacon". 😃

There is NO MESS I see Ben! Yay, bacon! I'm glad that you didn't lose your bacon with the hurricane. So you had to hot smoke it. It does look really dark but I bet it's delicious! I'm so glad Jack is helping you put it away. Jack did a great job! Yum, render the bacon scraps! Yum! BLTs! So cold smoke is a little better for doing your bacon. Nice, wild black cherry is a great wood to smoke with and you used some green wood too! These are wonderful tips that you're giving us! Yum, home grown tomatoes with homegrown pig, home made mayonaise , and home baked bread! Too bad you had a surprise frost. I'm glad you were still able to get some peppers after they all got blown down in the hurricane. Tyler, good for you helping put the sides down on the greenhouse. Good harvest all summer guys for deciding that you weren't going to have a garden because of the baby! You guys did terrific! Take a bow! Thanks for this video Hollar family!

Those hunks would be wonderful for a Hungarian meal my cousins used to make. Thin sliced sourdough bread covered with thin slices of radishes and green onions…then get the bonfire going. Hold hunks of the fat over the fire like a marshmallow…when it starts to drip…those drips are allowed to drip over your slice of bread and veggies. Sounds crazy.. but the salty savory fat turns the bread/ veggies slices into a delicious treat. Glass of wine goes great with it. And it’s fun.

thanks for the meal idea! That’s what we’re having for supper tonight 🍂🫶♥️Even if the peppers are too spicy, why not pick them and feed them to the chickens? it raises their internal body temperature and helps them produce eggs throughout cold months. You are teaching the kids what true life is and I so, so hopefully that I can meet you guys one day. My oldest can't do much without with his step dad but my youngest loves to chop wood and make things. I wish so, so much that I taught them more about being the bread maker for the family to take care of the land around us. I was a beginner gardener then but now I feel so enriched by your videos. I literally just finished picking the last of my peppers (that I want to pick) today! I also picked my neighbor's quinces and the last of the tomatoes; Glass Gem corn and various pumpkins, squash, and beans from my experimental Three Sisters garden; and sweet potatoes. Tomorrow I may try to save a few of the pepper plants by bringing them indoors, but honestly if they freeze tonight I won't be too sorry. And y'know what? My kitchen is a horrible mess. My life has been insanely busy and my garden has been insanely productive this past month, and I've barely kept up with basic cleaning. I'm trying to ignore the canning clutter until I have time to deal with it. I live in my house and use my kitchen, as you do; if things aren't perfectly orderly - or even clean - all the time, that's okay, especially at the tail end of harvest season. Thank you for being willing to show us the less-than-perfect kitchen that you use and work in!

Another terrific video! Baby is growing so fast she is adorable looking around while Meg works! When you were talking about the driveway tomato, it made me think of a couple plants we had come up in the Orchard where we tossed a lot of garden compost last season... 4 huge Tomato plants shot up next to 2nd year fruit trees, they are bigger than the trees and taller... close to 8 feet or more! The tomatoes are just coming on here in October but are good! Thank you for everything you share!... Love your family!
