This must be a Northern and Southern Italy difference. I'm from the south and with the spoon to me seems like the polite way of eating, while just the fork seems like something you would do only at home because it's messier and the fork scratches the plate...

@@josmo1363 I'm italian, I'm in the fourties: in all my life I've seen only two Italian people eating spaghetti using fork and spoon, it was a long time ago and they weren't young. Italians using spoon are more rare than unicorns. In Italy we teach to waiters to bring a spoon only to the foreigners if they order spaghetti. Fathers and mothers cut spaghetti only for their very young children because are very long and they can choke wit them

How you eat spaghetti is entirely up to you; you just have to decide whether you want to be "proper" or simply enjoy the meal. In a formal setting, the spoon is used only to "toss" the sauce into the spaghetti, though the technique varies with the sauce(s). Informally, among friends, the spoon may be used for each mouthful ... or not used. To cut the spaghetti is childish. To twirl the spaghetti, the spoon may be used or the fork only, twirling the fork against the side of the bowl/plate (low-sided bowls are preferred) or the curve of the plate. But to NUKE the spaghetti? No! That's just plain wrong, with or without canned (!!) sauce. (Pasta sauce is easy to learn to make.) Was this video a joke?
