I used these with an 8ft ceiling, starting my plants with the lights about 5 feet from the pots. When the plants get bigger, they can tolerate more light. I had plants that grew to within inches of the lights, with zero burn on the plants. Went from yielding 4-5 lbs to over 9 with the same number of plants, and the same genetics. It's more a matter of letting the seedlings not get light poisoning, they'll adjust, and go crazy once they get some size. If you're growing tall ass Christmas trees, then it's a problem. Keep them bent down and the room cool, and you'll get gains like you've never seen before. Don't listen to this bullshit, you're restricting your capabilities.
@tinderella23863 жыл бұрын
I call BS on that. A plant getting within inches of a 1000de and not getting burnt?? Yeah, no. I’ve grown with Hellion 600/750 that are arguably the coolest running reflectors with the super spreaders fitted, in a heavily airconditioned room and even on 750 you have to be careful and an close then a bit over a foot and you can either get taco shelling of leaves including trim leaves or fox tailing. Unless you’re running pretty high levels of CO2 as well there’s no way what you said is remotely true, and even so the inches within a 1000de is BS. The ppfd would be off the charts but the radiant heat alone would be insane.

I have a 1000w DE on a mover over a 6'x8' in a 10'x11'x8' room with an active intake and I haven't had to run an AC to cool my room yet but I'm preparing for the temperatures to start getting back up there in the NW. The only reason I have ANY 1000 se in my set up is because I could not find a 4th double bulb raptor, because they were discontinued. So I have three, with 6 600s, checkering red and blue, and then one single bulb raptor with a 1k, then 2 radiant 8s, one with a 1k and one with a 600. You can get better buds from 600s, and if you use them right the yield can be the same as 1k lights. Again, great video

This is a great video about some quick points about sodium bulbs and how their relative cost to entry can be cheaper. I grow indoors with LEDs but I still bust out a sodium bulb at home in the winters because like the video says, they put off significant heat. 600w HPS will cover a 4x4 area pretty well or tighter if you're growing something like cannabis that requires more intensity. It's challenging to control the heat levels in the summer which is where the LEDs help since no extra cooling is needed. Prices have come down a lot on quantum boards and other LED light setups, it just requires some research so you don't just pay a middle man a premium price.
@tinderella23863 жыл бұрын
Newer ballast and so on run at over 90% efficiency with DE hps, so a 600w de hps still puts off roughly the same heat as an equal wattage 600w led

Great how you rattle off the facts - like a Grow Rapper. Agreed. 1000W Bulbs are almost certainly a mistake with an 8' ceiling - an Expert with Air Cooled lighting might get away with it, but they'd be too busy to watch this. With DE 6/7's there's a chance to get down to 18" away (without cooling, but with good room air circulation) but you'll need to grow Seeds for a few seasons to acclimate the strain to the conditions. Way far away at 24" should always be OK or you should try a different variety - close saves electricity, far away is for multiple Fixtures and Sun supplementation. If you can afford quality LEDs so much the better.

Nice--I hear that they are significantly more efficent sending more of their energy out as light--less as heat--that is my biggest issue with HID is the heat produced--and the fact that you not only pay for the power that creates that heat--you also have to pay for more power to cool off that heat with AC. But with Ceramic MH and double ended HPS... that numbers are improving. The longevity will be the key factor...how often you have to change out the lights. I am not married to any technology--be it HID, LED or plasma... or whatever else may come up... I look at (1) yield (2) ease of use and (3) electric bills and decide based on those three factors, probably in that order (2 & 3 are probably somewhat inter-changable unless one is very hard to use).
@1trillionviews5166 жыл бұрын

One 1K DE light will cover a 10x10 foot space. There's no need for 2 in a 5x10 foot space. So you're saving money on power with the DE, and spending more and creating more heat with 3/600's.

I just bought an open "gavita" type 1000W DE. Well what a fiasco! First I didn't realize it was 240v, so I had to get a new ballast as I can't mess with the electric where I'm at, second, once I did get everything squared away, turns out a 1000w DE bulb runs hot like a freaking IRON! So I bought a 600w bulb as ill be growing in a very small area. I was used to big open areas and thought I could get away with just running a exhaust duct right on top of the light but considering how hot that little bulb gets, I don't think that's going to work...Anyways, what is the heat difference from a1000w DE compared to the 600w?

Besides heat issues, isnt there a max lux level? For example, if we assume my AC/DE reflector plus mini split can cool my room sufficiently no matter how high/low I set my light height, then lux would become the next issue, right? What height is that? Or what lux measurement is it that after which point the light is reflected as heat?
@Just4Growers6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. After around 900 umol of PAR light the limiting factor indoors becomes CO2 levels. If you elevate CO2 to 1200 - 1450 PPM (more than three times atmospheric levels) light loving plants can take up to 1500 umol before the law of diminishing returns really kicks in. In practice 700 - 800 umol is ample for growing most light loving flowering species.

Firstly, I wouldn't bother with the layer of clay balls at the bottom of the pot for reasons I explain here ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4SakKGjabJ_r7c ) - what is your source water? Tap? RO? What is the starting EC (before adding anything)? Did you pre-soak your balls? I would not use a pH as low as 4 to correct. Go for a more gradual approach. 5-5.5 is a better bet.

Only 21 seconds in and you've already stated false information, Gavita 1000W DE require a minimum of 10 ft ceiling not 15 ft or more (these units are actually manufactured for Greenhouses) ;but the Gavita 6750 (750W) DE work amazing below 10 Ft. The point of using Gavita 1000W DE (or DEs in general) for industrial growing is that you can use less ballasts due to the 5 ft x 6ft footprint rather than the 4 ft x 4 ft footprint of a single ended 1000W bulb. Reducing the amount of lights also reduces the amount of A/C required by a lot and having at least 1 wall mounted fan per light blowing directly in between the bottom of the bulb and the top of the canopy will almost negate the possibility of burning plants (still want at least 3 ft or more for 1000W DEs) completely. You also completely failed to talk about 315W Ceramic Metal Halide bulbs, these things with the Phillips Master 315W bulb absolutely rock for home growing and cost WAY less on the electricity bill. I speak from personally having over 20 years in the horticulture industry and having worked/spent a lot of time hanging out at my good friends horticulture supply store.

How many watts would you recommend on just one to four plants??for veg and bloom?!
@Just4Growers7 жыл бұрын
+xXb3a5T-N-Xx Hello amigo. Thank you for your question. Let's define a small-scale indoor grow as 4' by 4' or 16 square feet. Using very broad guidelines (multiply sq. feet by between 35 and 50 to give you watts, 35 for efficient lamps / reflectors, 50 for less efficient, or plants that have very high light requirements) that would give a range of 560 to 800 watts. I'm particularly impressed with 750W DE HPS lamps like the one I'm running in the Adjust-a-Wings Hellion. Do you have a grow tent / what space do you have available. Easier to talk in those terms rather than plant numbers. Peace and happy growing, Everest.

why not just turn dim down a D/E fixture from 1000w to 600w? Since D/E are more efficient than single ended wouldnt a D/E 1000w dimmed to 600w outperform a single ended 600w?
@Just4Growers6 жыл бұрын
It’s usually preferable to match your lamp’s native wattage with the desired output, rather than to dim as it causes spectral degradation. A notable exception are optimized lamps such as Adjustawings’ 750W DE-HPS which suffers from virtually no spectral degradation at 600W. This will certainly outperform an SE 600W.

before buy just think about your bill electricity i use 3 15 watts lamps and i grow 25 weeds plants each years ...
@canadiangreen59197 жыл бұрын
your a joke if you think a tiny night light will grow proper plants, especialy cover 25 plant kid
@dreatica17 жыл бұрын
i grow 8/10 plants each 4 months. its enough for me. and this give me the 25 plants/year. those lamps are 15 watt but give 110 watts equivalence. easy to find in supermarket.
@canadiangreen59197 жыл бұрын
no equivelant to anything. light dont work that way..a watt is a watt no mater how you try and missrepresent them. and 3 cfl wont cover enough to grow even 1 plant proper kids. the window sun has more output than your 15 watt tiny cfl
@canadiangreen59197 жыл бұрын
i gotta ask, what yields you pull from each plant grown under that tiny set up.

just think what you want .. lumens are enough for grow my plants ... whatever, i admit that i will enjoy to have a better installation,. but i cannot pay more money on this.

if I were to get DEs, what happens if I were able to cool the room down to 70 F every part of the room? So now if I don't have heat problems, can there be too much light?

even at 3-4 feet away

+Flipped Dz Nuts Excess radiant heat from a lamp that is too close will still have a negative effect on your leaves even if you are offsetting convection heat's effect on your air temperature. Heat is a double-horned beast!

I was all scared about De lamps. Had my plants like 6 or 7 feet away from the light and had to move them to about 3 to 4 feet away to get decent results. I am super pissed. I know for the next run though.

+DetroitLuv82 Compact reflectors have been all the rage with 1000W DE HPS thanks to all the pics of warehouse grows doing the rounds online. Over the next year we are going to see some different takes on applying the technology. Look out for the Hellion lighting system (you heard it here first ;)) and definitely check out the 600 / 750W DE HPS lamps. I'll be making my way through all this over the coming months. Hope you're subbed ;)

great video Everest. itd be nice for those of is just trying to enjoy out garden's to have a decent spot to share info. The rollitups, thc farmer, icmag, firestaxx all hangouts for egotistical butane smokers mostly it seems. my advice is find a good dude like Everest and bounce questions, speaks volumes about a person when they call themselves a growgod at a cannabis site. snacks of being quite conceited! last thing the movement needs is asshats like you see at those sites trolling, using misinformation, or just straight assholes who share a bloodsupply with the site who rage on anyone who makes the mistake of coming across their paths on the internet.

Before you buy an HPS look at the calendar. Its 2021... get an LED
@Just4Growers3 жыл бұрын
Interesting view; when your done checking the year, turn your attention towards your ambient temperatures, the temperature and light requirements of your chosen plant species, the intended size of your plants, your expectation of canopy penetration, how long you think you want to stay in the game, and your bank account, peace and happy growing. I’ll be talking LEDs soon ;)
@tinderella23863 жыл бұрын
@Revy DE hps get way better coverage and far far better penetration then LED. A 750w Hellion will kill any 600w Led fixture, whether it’s 2021 or not. LEDs either have crappy light distribution on par charts with a huge central hotspot, or the multi arm fluency spydr style fixtures get rubbish penetration. With a Hellion you get super dense thick buds all the way to the bottom of the plant even through the upper canopy. No LED can do that, and yes, you know the year. Good for you.

the simple 5:1 red:blue 5050 SMD IP65 strips are SO CHEAP now though, eBay auctions for example. $:$ LED has been beating everything else for years now. The only arguments against LED are valid because "you're doing it wrong"

@Just4Growers5 жыл бұрын
There’s no need for Trumpisms or polemics amigo. If you are growing plants small or trained to a very low form you could quite happily use a 1000W with a low ceiling, you just don’t have much margin for error. Happy growing.
