I got an amstaff after my cane corso died. Previously I had 2 pastore abruzzese, and a Neapolitan mastiff. Well in my opinion I would describe the ams like a dog that never gets tired about staying and playing with you. Nevertheless, it is very stubborn and sometimes it could be annoying. It makes guard of course but it’s all except a guard dog. It’s strange to tell but it’s like he could decide who’s wrong from who’s ok in your/his territory. Sometimes he guards sometimes he doesn’t. In conclusion, I think they are very intelligent dogs, very athletic and strong but they are neither guard dogs, nor defense dogs. Having always been owner of guard dogs I really can’t understand this breed well. Of course I appreciate their love for you. From Italy

@@joemama_98 yes it was, among the breed the size can vary slightly, with some exemplars being sensibly bigger than others. The peculiarity of this breed (I am from Abruzzo) is that shepherds use them to protect sheeps in the mountains. The pastore abruzzese (not one but a pack, usually 5/6 dogs) can manage to defend the herd from wolves attacks. Very resistant to cold climate and to any sort of injury. Mines never went to the veterinary. Enjoy your dog!! Oh yes, one other things is said about pastore abruzzese, they never forget what you did to him . Bye!!

Ok I agree to an extent. No, they aren't vicious guard dogs but they do tend to guard in their own way which is different from the typical guard dog. Both of my Am Staffs will start barking at 2am as soon as they hear the slightest movement outside my house. I automatically look at the camera as soon as I hear them and someone will be walking up the sidewalk to the porch. When I got into an argument w my brother and things got heated one of them who was close by in her cage, I almost thought she was going to break out the cage as well as my brother did. He's the one who noticed it first and said "man let me stop getting loud before your dog bites me later" lol. So, in my opinion they are guard dogs as well, you just can't expect them to have your average Rottweiler attitude lol.

Amstaff is love, they are very well behaved easy to train and perfect guard 💂‍♀️ people compare them with APBT and take them for ill tempered breed but trust me this breed is really friendly. It has been more then five years Bella has been with me and she has always been such a darling

1 a lot of those attacks blamed on the pitbulls are actually am staffs and other bull breeds but Society just see them all as pitbulls these dogs are not ill tempered just poorly socialized

@@callistoacres perfect example people call am bullies pitbulls and of course everyone knows the topic about the famous blue nose pitbull which anyone who deals with pitbulls knows there is no such thing blue nose pits are simply am staff and there’s many videos showing their aggravation.. pitbulls are know to be animal aggressive am staff are very territorial they both are awesome dogs when socialized but they both share the same background yes am staff was used as fighting dogs just as much as pitbulls and share the same drive as a pitbull now me personally I love pitbulls I love am staff and I’ve been dealing with them for some time now these dogs can do a lot of damage to some one am staff may do more just because they tend to be bigger in size and as I repeated early they share the same drive ..

Hello i would like an amstaff. The question is FOR FIRST TIME OWNER who really love this breed and would be able to do something new( for ex. lessons with trainers,research, activities ect) in order to be a good companion for the dog! What are your suggestion? I know that the first dog is something special and that's why i would appreciate if someone can help me with my request. In my opinion there isn't so much time to chose a first dog in order to grow later an amstaff,i think that 1 dog ..one life is already enough...and so 1 amstaff is ok(^.^). Thanks!! Maybe for me the age to take a dog is around 25 /26 now i am 21! Suggestions as a first amstaff owner ?

My amstaff died of lymphoma at only 4yrs old.. He was my best friend and service dog, my vet says it's common in the breed but no one ever mentions this fact, is this true or not..

Dear Valerie, here, in Europe, lymphoma is very rare with Amstaffs. Cerebellar Ataxia is a much bigger and widespread problem.

Is the Amstaff good with other dogs? I've got a 1/5 Year old Yorkshire Terrier at home, and I want to get another dog, and I've been looking at an Amstaff for a long time, but been wondering if an Amstaff is good with other dogs? Find a breeder that follows and goes by show standards get a puppy. And keep it socialized and you'll be good. Having both dogs neutered will also help

Dear Black, yes, they are ok with kids of all ages. As they are very energetic dogs, you should take care and do not leave them alone with kids. Yes, they can live ín apartmans, but excersize should be extensive, they are a very active breed.

1) Amstaffs are very good with kids just buy the dog as a puppy so that he will grow up with the kid and they will be best friends! 2) They are perfect for living in Apartment i live in an apartment and i own my male Amstaff "Thor" since he was 2 months old! You need to potty train the Amstaff so that he doesn't poop or piss in the apartment if you don't have success in potty training him prepare to wipe dog shit and piss 😂... they get tall from 3 months old to 1 year old at 1 year old they don't grow tall anymore but they will get bulky and full of muscles when they are 2 years old! When they are 2 years old they are fully developed and they look like freaking Tanks! (if you have a pure breed one of course) Oh yea and remember when they are adults if you don't potty train him/her they take shits like a fucking horse for a medium sized dog 😂!

As an amstaff owner for about 2 years. My dog knows how to sit, come, fetch, lay down and give her hand to say hallo. You just need to spend enough time and i promise you, you will enjoy it a lot. Also its true that they are super energetic and happy dogs. Every time i come home she acts as if i was gone for a year. Most happy dogs I've seen for sure

My amstaff is 13 weeks old. He can sit lay give his hand and potty trained. I got him at 9 weeks old at that point he would already sit down on command. He's my first dog I own but I was raised with dogs as my mum was a breeder. I know dogs well and so did my mother. These dogs are just as easy to train as Labradors are

Dear el, according to our experiences, Amstaffs are more work oriented in general than pitbulls. If you need protection against people maybe it is better to choose a German, or Belgian guard breed, like Rottweiler, Dobermann, or Malinois.

@@elbelwzdadi9751 No, we would not say that. They can be trained for guard dogs. Because of their past (and the terrier blood in them) they are quite stubborn and training requires more experience. They are really human centered dogs, that is why they are more difficult to be trained for protection against humans.
