Interesting to know - I've got an FZ6, but recently started riding 2up a lot and have been lusting over the FZ1.

Make the switch I started on an fz1 first bike it is amazing I don’t like any other bikes I’ve rode I was looking to switch to gen 2 I’m sticking with gen 1 after watching this video you should get a gen 1

I have among a few other bikes, a 2003 FZ1. I love my FZ. It's as close to a perfect motorcycle as I've ever ridden and/or owned. I have a 2013 Ducati Diavel AMG with less than 10,000 miles, my FZ has 25,000, and if I could only keep one, without hesitation, it would be the FZ. I'm not disagreeing with anything you've mentioned only that the 1st gen is great. Too, the issues you've pointed out are not huge and are easy work-around if they're dealt with before failure, so might be worth looking into for purchase. I love that there are guys like you who keep the rest of us informed.Thx!

The FZ1 is such a well rounded bike! Which is faster between the two you think, diavel or fz1? Just curious. haha. I appreciate your comment. I agree the issues are not deal breakers at all, just good info to know before hand, so that you could maybe use it to drop the price or maybe to find out they've already been taken care of.

When the magnets went, did it take out the engine too? How's the GSXS1000? NGL i about bought a gsxs750 the other day because it was such a good deal.

I owned a 2006 FZ1 and didn’t have any problems with what you listed. Mine had > 43K mikes on it when I sold it. Most of the 43K miles were run on California mountain roads and several track days. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

well unless they sell you the old part all over again ....who is to say those did not lurk in warehouses forever? I was an MC mechanic it amazed me how many parts were subbed with multiple part numbers for the "same" parts....was really wild how the same bushing or what have you might have 6 different part numbers over the years....maybe they improved it for later models....maybe it NEEDED to be stronger for different models even though same dimensions....but who is to say some warehouse dude didnt sub an OLD OLD bushing back into the NEW bin? End used sure could not tell most times....unless it was a well known issue thing and there were visual differences?

RM Stator parts are Shit! Definitely pay a few more bucks and get OEM parts! My frame doesn’t have any cracks in it. Only things I had to do with mine was Stator update, new coil packs. Everything else has been perfect. I only replaced stator to avoid having issues with it. Yamaha has the new updated part #.

Thanks for heads up! Generally every manufacturer has some issues just about every bike.My Honda VFR800 came from factory with under load thin wires which ended up frying connections, RR and Stator.This wasn't unique every 5th gen VFR had same faulty wiring.ZRX and lots of Kawasaki bikes have poorly designed chain tensioner which hit clutch plate and can create a mess on the engine. BMW has way too many models where splines dont match correctly from factory on drive shaft which ends up costing serious money to replace transmission and other components.Yamaha 1700 had 3rd gear failures.Harley list is endless most famous tensioner issues etc. My point is be informed and make right choice.

From my experience and research some the 2006 / 2007 FZ1’s had bad intake valve stems. I witnessed this in my own bike when doing a valve adjustment. Yamaha had a bad batch of soft valves so the stem would start to mushroom. I had to put the large shim in to get the gap back to spec. R1’s with this engine had the same issue.
@grimsmotovlogs36911 ай бұрын
I did not know that. Seems like the 06-07 had the most issues.

Might you know any way to be sure about the stators on the 2015s other than taking it out ?,,manufacture date maybe?

I do not know specifics but I'm sure there's a way to tell, like you said, by manufacture date.

2008 fz1 here. 2012+ your rotor is good. Before that it’s a fairly cheap upgrade to get the sleeved rotor. Cracked frames are a 2006/7 issue. Get the OEM rotor.

It is SO wild that manufactures just KEEP going with fauty components! year after year after year! Kawasaki did it with their "doohicky" issue....it just amazes me! There has to be a reason? Maybe it is a contract with supplier building exactly to manufacturer specs they cant ge out of ? Essentially already paid for a crap load of parts they either use or eat? And/or they cant re-engineer certain things without re-certifying the entire model?? I know a lot of REALLY old models like Honda XR650L Honda changes NOTHING for like DECADES! I think Suzuki DRZ400 too maybe? Wild

If the original stator is so bad, why would i go and buy another from the manufacturer. ?
@grimsmotovlogs3696 ай бұрын
So the glue used to hold the magnets to the rotor on some bikes will come loose and throw them causing catastrophic engine failure. Yamaha redesigned the rotor assembly for the last FZ1 model year before its change to the MT. The new design has the magnets encased in a metal sheath. Realistically you have two options for a replacement. A manufacturer redesigned part or a Chinese knockoff sold ,by a Canadian Company, for about half the price. I personally went with an RM stator first but had issues, and I decided to just spend the extra money and got the OEM one. Id personally just recommend the OEM redesign . As I've heard and seen pictures of the other ones castings breaking, among other things. But it is expensive, like $500 just for the part.

From what I can see error code 20 has to do with the intake air pressure sensor. Have you been under the tank at all lately? maybe the connector is loose?

I have check the measurements on the „chinese“ flywheel Bruce&shark on. I measured the concentricity with a 0.001mm watch and compared all the dimensions with the original. There is no difference, the dimensions are all within tolerance and there are no major deviations from the original rotor from Yamaha. And before anyone here thinks I don't know exactly. I work on CNC machines and manufacture parts in the 0.001 tolerance range, I have measured both rotors. You can also install the cheap parts without hesitation. Zeiss Measurement Machines dont lie😅
@grimsmotovlogs36910 ай бұрын
@@ht2311 tolerances may be exact but the metal used in the Chinese ones isn’t of the same quality as the OEM part. I’ve seen the Chinese flywheels snap at the spindles. So I’d still be cautious of installing a Chinese part. Also the quality control isn’t great. The one you got may have the correct tolerances but that doesn’t mean they all are that exact.
@ht231110 ай бұрын
@@grimsmotovlogs369 hmm.. i don‘t think so. Yamaha made their parts not by itself. They buy it from china,taiwan or japan or something else. The traces of processing on the surface are identical to the original component. The roughness depth is minimally different for the non-OEM part. I wouldn't bet on it. I have milled many different materials here in Germany, turned on the machine. With a casting you can see straight away whether it has voids or not. This material is not high-end steel like X5 or titanium. Cast parts are usually the cheapest thing you can buy. You will never find out the material composition because it is cast material. So don't worry too much about it. I had concerns and therefore measured and checked everything. you always have to see what function the part has. And let's be honest, based on the bearings that are installed you can actually see that they are standard ball bearings and do not have a runout that is in the 0.001mm range. In the end you have to know for yourself.🤷🏻♂️👍😉😂

@@ht2311 hahaha we can just agree to do disagree. I know the metals used in China are not comparable to other countries. I’m not a metallurgist. But I’ve heard metallurgists say that. All the chinese tools I’ve broken at work would have to agree tho. Haha.
