I have a 2003 FZ1 that is as close to perfect a motorcycle as I've ever ridden or owned. I've been riding for approximately 60 years. I have several bikes now including a Ducati Diavel AMG that's been flashed, goosed, and tampered with in every way. It's insanely fast and all the other good things. But, if I had to pick between the FZ or the Diavel the FZ would be the one I'd choose to stay. I've raised and extended the handlebars, added end mirrors, a quick shifter, a custom seat, lowered the pegs an inch and that's it. The powerband is not to be believed. The only issue I have with this bike is that it's so intuitive I sometimes forget I'm riding a motorcycle. I think it and it's already doing it. An amazing machine.

Glad I found your channel. I'm in Australia, Just got a 2009 FZ1. It has the Power commander. I'm after a ECU remap however the guy I normally use said he didn't have much success tuning these bikes. I'll have to look into it more, apart from that, it's a real nice bike, cheers.

Excellent. You addressed some of my concerns regarding handle bars, power, and ECU. However, sometimes, "depending on the rider", having a bike that's overly "locked-up" can help rides who, 'lack wrist control', till their skills improve to those that you have. THEN they can "unlock" the bike for more FUN!

Sport touring tyres acually provide more grip on the street then hyper sports tyres, unless your are constantly doing high speeds or heavy breaking and accelerating to keep them at there desired heat level which is quite high and very difficult.
@JGreenwood238 Жыл бұрын
I agree, when I bought this bike it had Dunlop Q4s on it and I almost laid it down the first time I rode it under 50 degrees due to the rear wheel losing traction. Most recently I ran Michelin Power 5s & was extremely happy with them, just replaced the tires again a few weeks ago & decided to give the Michelin Road 6s a try. So far I really like them! I live in Florida now & afternoon rain showers are a regular thing, both the Power 5 & Road 6 tires perform phenomenally in the rain.

@@JGreenwood238 yeh I'm running s/t tyre on my cbr1000rr. Never had a slip ect. And the centre is alot harder so they won't get a flat spot. so with a sports tyres it's gunna wear there first and can't use them beautiful sticky sides either because we need to replace them only because the centre wore out without wearing them sides out. ( really hot climates you could get away with sports tyres on street as they will heat up enough and get all it's benefits. Track use: sport tyres all the way. Hit brakes constantly on the track, fast riding perfect 👌

Got a naked one too. Looks pretty sweet with a bunch of mods. Great fun to drive except for the throttle snaps exiting corners... I’m not sure whether to go for a PC or an ECU flash... I noticed there are various PC Fz1n tunes available but not for a Hotcam slip-on (which I got).
@JGreenwood238 Жыл бұрын
I would recommend an ECU reflash for this bike over a Power Commander due to the added benefit that comes with the reflash. On top of the fueling corrections you are also getting the adjustments made in the ignition curve, lower radiator fan on/off temps, ECU restrictions in 1st-3rd gear removed, & you can also correct the Speedo calibration for gearing changes.

Do you have a link for the front fairing kit and the turn signals? Also did you have to install a new turn signal relay for them to work properly?I have the same bike with the same mods but really hate that front cluster of plastic. Thanks and ride safe🍺

How noticeable is the power difference from stock vs reflashed ecu? I'm about to send mine to vcyclenut and wanted to know if it's worth it?
@JGreenwood2383 жыл бұрын
The difference before and after the reflash was significant. The bike runs better overall, cooler, more power, and you have full power right from first gear. I am thinking about having it reflashed again though as Ivan's Performance has a new flash out and he has been perfecting his tune for this bike for years. VCycleNut is so much better than stock but on-off throttle transitions and low speed throttle inputs feel like they could still be better
@alchemist37243 жыл бұрын
@@JGreenwood238 gotcha, i personally have have no on/off throttle snatch or issues with throttle input on my 2009 FZ1, so the Vcyclenut flash should be awesome for me? I've heard nothing but positive feedback from the Vcyclenut flash so hopefully it truly is an awesome reflash 😎🤙

@JGreenwood238 Жыл бұрын
I do still own it! I ran into one of the worst major issues you can have as a 2nd gen FZ1 owner. 06-07 FZ1s were prone to frame cracking issues & mine did end up cracking. I had to swap the frame for a 2008 frame. I still love the bike but for anyone looking to buy one I would highly recommend buying an 08+ as swapping the frame was not fun lol. The only other common issue with them is the factory stator but that’s an easy fix for around $300 & personally I haven’t had any issues with mine.

So many reviews say it lacks low down grunt.......otherwise I would buy one tomorrow. I do have a '98 1200 Bandit and love the low down pull.
@JGreenwood238 Жыл бұрын
This bike does lack low end power compared to other bikes. It’s not slow by any means but after owning an FZ09 & a Duke 890 I can firmly state that either one of those bikes will pull a quicker 0-60 time. There are mods that will help the midrange significantly like graves velocity stacks, & the Yoshimura full system but the FZ1 will never make solid numbers in the lower RPM range, like under 5-6k RPM. It is still a very rewarding bike to ride though, the top end pull is addicting! I’ve taken the bike on group rides and I’ve never had any trouble keeping up with other literbikes up to around 150. Due to this bike being naked I really don’t care to push it over triple digits in most cases but man it pulls like a freight train from 50-150. For every day riding at legal speeds middleweight naked bikes definitely have more to offer but I will say that the FZ1 is still a fantastic bike for 2-up riding as well as a great sport tourer.
