Salute Ant! One topic I can talk about in addition to those you’ve covered is a pretty common occurrence for local foodservice routes. One day you’ll probably find yourself on a street with ‘No Thru Trucks’ signage. What my trainers have informed me of is that if you have a delivery on that exact street or somewhere very very close in proximity to that street they’ll let you continue on without a ticket. On one occasion during my training weeks we got stopped by a sheriff and let him know we were delivering to the jail around the corner and he let us roll. Now sometimes that might not be the case and you just might not have known because signage isn’t always posted at every entrance off of a highway, state route, country road, etc. I’d suggest just being honest and respectful and if given a ticket go ahead and forward it to your company. They may or may not foot the Bill for it but using truck apps like “HAMMER”(free)or “CIRCUIT”($20/month) will ensure you’re never on those roads to begin with. Be safe on that road y’all 🙏🏽

In Sysco, Virginia we don’t have to wait when it’s a key drop of course. But if there’s a manager or other employee there who wants to check everything in, we’re instructed not to refuse and rush out. Most places are great on that though, they’ll start checking things off as soon as the first dolly is rolled in and unscooped

I've been doing Delivery but with liquor and wine for about 12 yrs. I don't really wanna drive over the road and seems like food service is the only decent paying jobs where you can be home everyday. I've delt with the bad loads, customers holding you up and the biggest one is getting out of the warehouse late. I couldn't take that anymore, 3, 4, and 5 hours behind.

I like to think if you lift with your legs and not your back while stacking/unstacking, that you can prevent ever messing up your back, as happens to many drivers. And while they don’t necessarily throw their back instantly (although I’m sure that’s been known to happen), their backs start to deteriorate slowly over time, until they’re forced to quit. I’d also be worried about my knee joints and feet/ankles giving out over time. Is there a way to prevent this? Already being into working out would definitely help, but what are other ways to protect the body?

@@comment5398 Yes. And there are many laborers and/or weightlifters who may go years injury-free, but then they pick up a heavy object with their head in the clouds and forget to lift with their legs, and then they mess up their back. It only takes one time, especially as you age.
@j.m.59956 ай бұрын
No way not to lift with your back when the warehouse buries the boxes you're looking for and you gotta have one for on the pallet and the other on the trailer floor

Can you do a video on transferable skills they are looking for? I have my CDL and all endorsements. I'm trying to get into the industry coming from 35 years in software development. But, in general, I don't know what they want to see on an application. Thanks!
@imanthonytv Жыл бұрын
Trucking jobs aren’t necessarily looking for those types of skills on an application. In trucking, the most important things companies look for are tractor trailer driving experience & clean driving record. Successfully passing a drug screening & background check really goes without saying but I guess I’ll say it anyway.
@redroverthefngamecat Жыл бұрын
@@imanthonytv Thanks for the reply! Driving record is clean as a whistle. Drug and background check are not an issue either. Tractor trailer driving experience is the hours spent driving in school. That's all I have for driving. Do you feel that I have a chance for local food service? Or are they going to pass on me due to lack of drive time? I appreciate any knowledge or advice you can share. Peace.

@imanthonytv Жыл бұрын
I definitely think a trucker GPS would be useful for a delivery driver. Some people have trucker GPS apps installed on their phones & some have the actual GPS in their tractor.
