This is absolutely the best audio channel on KZbin. You are concise, articulate and informative, with great video editing and presentation value, and I have learned more about audio engineering in the past week of binging your content than I have in my entire musical career thus far. I am bassist/keyboardist for a bar band and I also run our sound - so I’m not working with huge line arrays and a truckful of subs, just two 15’s on sticks - but you’ve changed the way I think about sound and I can’t wait to measure the pubs we play in and model them in MAPP 3D and sound 100x better than any of our competition, and that’s without a dedicated soundman. Thank you for continuing to kick out quality content, Michael! You’ve got a fan in me.

@@MichaelCurtisAudio well, we don’t have a show this week, we’ll have to wait until next weekend to see if I actually learned anything 😅 jk

Hey Michael, What do you think the maximum horizontal distance between the line arrays should be?
@MichaelCurtisAudio Жыл бұрын
It ultimately depends on trim heigh and audience size.

I am guessing that when you equalize the kick drum and Bass guitar, you do not have to boost any frequencies on them. With that target curve you use on smart you don’t have to do anything on the channel strips.

It honestly depends on the sources. The target curve shapes the entire PA's tonality to my liking, but I still have to piece the mix together.

@@MichaelCurtisAudio have you ever had to bring the bass shelf down because of it been boosted that much? I’m just curious because I never done it that way. I’m used to setting it up flat. Then I boost accordingly. Normally the kick drum microphones already have low end frequencies boosted. So I would think that by boosting that much low end on the house equalization would affect it. Don’t get me wrong if it works it works. Lol take care happy new year.

Hi Michael, did you gate your measurements? I assume you did. :) If not, you will have gotten a lot of reflections back into your measurements. Unfortunately, ground plane measurements still require some reflection-free area.
@MichaelCurtisAudio2 жыл бұрын
I didn't gate them. You're right, I could've done an offline measurement in IR mode or gone to REW for that, then convolved the IR and gated the timing. In this specific circumstance I was more concerned about consistency with 95% good data, than 100% good data and a slower process. Good point.

Can you do a practical video on how to tune a pa or speaker with smaart ?
@MichaelCurtisAudio2 жыл бұрын
I've got some of those in the hopper for later this year.

Just curious, where do you get the target trace in Smaart from? I am enjoying the videos a lot, keep up the good work!!!
