They are way too wide, but it’s an easy fix. Just file the sides down. Easy, and if you don’t like the square you can even just file it down to almonds

i agree that they are duck nails, though the mildest version i've seen so far, but i do think it looks better than her old nails. they were incredibly long which is super impressive but the shape just made them look ugly and somewhat uncared for if that makes sense. so i do think this is a huge improvement but imo they are duck nails yes

I prefer squoval. For my fingernails it makes a really nice balanced shape because it matches my shape of my cuticles. And definitely no sharp corners. But when I was a little girl probably about 6 years old growing up on a sheep ranch the first set of fancy nails that I ever saw were very long and square and I thought there was something wrong with them being square because it was so unnatural. But I was so impressed because it was my first time seeing fancy nails and I had never seen a fashion magazine and my mom never did her nails. The nails were on a stranger but I'm sure I was staring because I was so curious. The square made a very big impression on me and I still like them to this day I just wouldn't want something with edges that sharp. I like that my nails curl under a little bit. I feel like it keeps them stronger and in the shape that I like. I'm not crazy about the shape that she started out with. I think they're too tapered. 💅

You can tell they are duck nails by the way the bottom of the nails come out wider than the top by the cuticle. Just file them on the sides to bring it in at the bottom and I’m sure you’ll like the shape.

The important thing to keep in mind as a nail tech (or really anything I suppose) is not every set is going to be perfect or even necessarily match what you pictured in your head. Sometimes, a wide square turns into a duck nail, and you just don't realize it until it's too late! We learn from our mishaps and learn what not to do next time! Until we're delirious at 1am, doing our own nails again because that wild hair up yours of inspiration hits and then it's 4am and your back hurts and you don't even care anymore and you just want it all to be over! 😂

It only looks like duck nails bc 1. Ur C curve is flattening at the ends, and 2. There’s no strong apex. Think more acrylic shapes for coffin nails - they start their apexes very very high up the nail. That’s the only way to do it if you want your nails to not come down and flatten. Otherwise, if you want to correct your natural growth, then you’ll need to cut your nails all the way down and start over w under filing so they’re flat from the bottom. It’ll mean dealing w a squoval shape for nails whose beds down curve as much at the free edge, but it’s worth it you’d really like to not add extensions.

I personally preferred the square shape you had with your natural nail on you, just because your hands, fingers, and nail beds are very dainty with longish tapered lines, so the chunkiness of the nails after the overlay really stands out on your hands and looks slightly unnatural (which may be why everyone says they’re duck nails even though it’s hardly wider). Not saying I didn’t like the end result, they were pretty, I was just stating my preference between the two ♥️ beautiful manicure and color

Putting a tweezer/pincer over the sides after curing for 20sec and curing it like that helps with building c curve and eliminating the duck nails

Perhaps if you taper the side wall, and slightly round those free edges. You have a small nail bed. The square edge just takes so much of the length off your fingers…. Making them a bit shorter looking.

My nails curl in like that. Some are flatter. I rather them look narrow than wider. I started to do nails this style, but I want to do neons over my rubber base so I didn't do chrome, but they are so classy. A tapered square would have been cute; Like a ballet.
