The problem with "Family Matters" is that it's not a diss against Kendrick or Ross, Future, Rocky, or any other rapper; it's a diss against Whitney Alford.) She's the main person he defames and attacks. His heaviest and most abrasive bars are reserved for her, rather than Kendrick...She's the one he sets out to embarass and shame. She's central, but so many reactors and critics behave as though she's 'collateral damage'. But it also tells us something about Drake. I haven't come across any videos (yet) discussing how disturbing it is for him to allege that she's abused and beaten only to follow it up by calling her a 'bitch' with a taunt/chant for her to put her "hands on her knees and shake that ass for Drake...shake that ass for Free". 🙄 Hardy, hah, hah I guess? Either Drake never believed she was a victim of DV which was makes him a liar or he really believed she was abused yet didn't have a moment's hesitation in ridiculing an alleged victim....which makes him look like a straight-up sociopath.

It’s the behaviour of an incel. He is rich and famous so sadly some people can’t fathom that he operates like one. The lame dude who finally becomes successful but still can’t shake his feeling of inadequacy so he lashes out at women. You make an excellent point. He denigrates her so severely on that track but somehow these “critics” think it’s his strongest outing through out the whole beef. Cowardly behaviour. Kendrick, Pusha or most men for that matter think their partner is sacrosanct. Drake doesn’t have one so can’t even begin to understand how precious that relationship is. He attacks it so nonchalantly

My whole thing with the Drake exposure of Kendrick is if you really believed Whitney was being abused, why continue to attack her? Drake had more attacks on Whitney the women he claimed Kendrick was abusing, you turn around and abuse her to when she had absolutely nothing to do with this. He had the opportunity to take that information he supposedly had on Kendrick and destroy his character but he literally took it out on Whitney.

Drake using women as proxies in his battles is nothing new. We saw it with Pusha. We see him taking shots at Rihanna and Serena years after their relationships have ended. Both of them are now Mothers of two children. This time he went too far with Whitney. It reeked of incel behaviour. Questioned the paternity of her children, accused her of being intimate with other men. Drake was warned to keep it a friendly fade, and refused to do so.

I assume What’s the Dirt is conflicted about how to present Family Matters, because he’s probably trying to present the song as equally yolked with Kendrick’s songs but is having difficulty because of how much from Family Matters was tacitly and explicitly debunked. There’s a brand of “objectivity” that assumes that to be fair, you must make both sides equal. But many times a strong analysis comes from admitting the errors in an approach. He doesn’t want to appear biased, but his vid will probably be poorly received because of his attempts to give Drake credit on claims with little to no evidence. Not to mention the racial aspects of the song that he is simply not equipped to address without a strong understanding of the complexity of Black identity (imagine him trying to analyze the “slaves free” bar).

Exactly. It's the racial/cultural aspects of the song where he's going to be beyond his scope and exactly why so many of us hate to see so many white folks in this space who only see all this as a meal ticket and could care less about actually being informed or just stepping aside and letting black folks touch on the topics that they can't/shouldn't.
@TakverReturns
@TakverReturns 9 күн бұрын
This...💯 I absolutely agree. I remember Justin alerted us to WTD's pending breakdown of "Family Matters". WTD turned up in the comments to insist that he had to be fair, by being objective and presenting both sides... I still think there is a real problem with having blind faith in 'objectivity' in the first place; people have their biases and the best you can do is acknowledge your own subjectivity and do your best to be fair while being transparent about where you're situated. But everyone has a lens. No one has access to a purely detached, magical 'eye-of-God' vantage. That's a (white and male) fantasy... I also think that while there are some situations where it is appropriate to present dual or multiple perspectives to give nuance, it doesn't automatically lead to useful, insightful or just reporting. 'Both sides' reporting is often an evasive, formulaic, "Basic Betty" understanding of journalism and even discussions. Can you imagine what an unethical trainwreck it would be if someone looked at Cassie and Diddy and thought that the only way to be 'fair' was to present both sides 'equally' and to give both of their perspectives equal weight and legitimacy? And it makes me realise two things. a.) Most presenters on KZbin might do research and write, but they aren't journalists but we often treat them as though they are and allow them to pose as journalists and even claim the title (like Ak). b.) Hubert Mewhinney (actual journalist) was right when he complained about a fundamental misunderstanding of how journalism works. To paraphrase him: If someone says "it's raining" and someone denies it, a journalist's job isn't to 'equally' quote what each side said and leave it up to readers to determine the truth but to put their head out the window and report on what they see. Anything else is just fact-dumping without fact checking or idle speculation, and it is a shame that WTD seems to be following the latter.

Sadly, What’s The Dirt goodwill is being squandered. He didn’t do interviews for Kendrick’s breakdown. This is starting to feel more like an attempted “exposé” rather than a lyric breakdown done in earnest. I remember WTD saying Whitney being in the NLU didn’t mean anything. It’s almost like he and Drake fans need Whitney to be a battered woman to validate’s Drake lyrics. It’s like they are grasping at anything that might feel like a “win.” It’s gone beyond shedding light on lyrics and What’s The Dirt has now delved into merky territory in my opinion.

Kendrick went after Drake and only Drake + his dad. He didn’t talk bad about Drake’s mom. When he was talking about Adonis, he just giving him positive affirmations, whether they were genuine or not but Drake putting in question Enoch’s paternity is just really foul imo because he’s potentially creating some problem for an innocent party, and a child at that! That tweet from What's the Dirt looks even crazier since the Family Matters breakdown has yet to come. I believe that tweet was 5 weeks ago. It's pretty odd to make that tweet & not roll out the breakdown for Family Matters right after. This will be interesting for sure.

The ONLY reason I am passing judgement until it comes out is he did go hard on Drake on 6 16. To this day MOST people would not have broken down the first verse of that song like Whats The Dirt did. Plus, I could be wrong but I THINK he is releasing Family Matters and Not Like Us back to back. So that could explain him taking this long. But I am a bit worried that he feels like he needs to play the middle, when not everything is in the middle, which makes him feel the pressure to find stuff on Kendrick just to make it seem more fair. When the battle was far from fair, it was beyond one sided. So I hope he doesn't do any insane reaches on Family Matters to appease the Drake fans, and just keeps it honest as he sees it. Because he is getting a lot of props within community overall, and this would greatly damage it.

Drake's only chance of not getting crushed by Kendrick was if Whitney sided with him. And he goes out and wildly accuses Whitney of having children with another man. You don't speak about a woman's children, character and partner like that and have them not absolutely despise you. Whitney probably hates Drake even more than Kendrick does now.

Drake literally never definitively said it was Dave Free's child-- first he accused Whitney of sleeping with a bodyguard then said she slept with Dave, and he couldn't even stand on it and say it with his whole chest. How would someone as remote as Drake know about their personal business like that. Also, look at Kendrick's ears and that cute little boy's. To me, the little girl looks like Kendrick in her facial features and the little boy looks like Whitney but browner with Kendrick's signature ears and both kids are clearly siblings. Dave Free is very private - minding his own business and living his life - even more so than Kendrick. I don't know how anyone could really be clocking that kind of stuff for him. Plus, as many other people have said, he and Kendrick are so tight and work together so closely that something like that wouldn't be/stay a secret between them and if it were to happen without destroying their friendship and business relationship (unlikely) wouldn't be something to laugh at. Drake is just so nasty. It seems like both Kendrick and Whitney have put work into themselves and probably into their relationship. What Drake does not understand in any way is if you have been together so long and have kids together then that is something that you may fight for and invest in.

The thing with the easter-eggs is Kendrick will never tell us what they mean. Like… ever. 😂 And I think we must come to value that about him because it’s part of what makes him an excellent artist - he SHOWS, he doesn’t TELL. The best example of this is probably 2017’s DAMN. album, which he opens up by giving his audience the freedom to decide what it really means. Granted, some theories are just WILD, but great work is studied for years, and Kendrick has proven himself to be a creator of great works. ❤

When interviewed Kendrick is soft spoken and reserved. Not that he's a bad interview but that's not his format. I have read tht he stuttered as a child and worked to overcome that. So, where he is speaking is definitely in his rap. I actually think you can be both a guy from the neighborhood and produce intricate and profound material. If we're well-developed there are always various layers and facets to who were are. With Kendrick on top of that he's very smart and creative, so...He reminds me of visual artists and artisans I've known who other than some of them seeming a bit intense don't seem all that different but then you see their handiwork and POW.

WHATS THE DIRT has been on a relentless smear campaign against Kendrick laying the groundwork for his anti Kendrick hit piece. He cliqued up with notorious anti Kendrick vultures like Adam22, Akademiks and TrapLore Ross. People are not not dumb, he didn’t do any of this bs when he was dropping Kendrick disses breakdowns. He is on a smear mission. Being on a group chat with the most vile white hip hop vultures while cooking up this hit piece told me everything I wanted to know about his intent. I noticed his desire to be famous and co-opted by hip hop talking head establishment. First, by Drake spokesperson Akademiks but now he really adds TrapLore Ross and effin Adam22? And somehow Adam started a "Kendrick doesn’t plant money tree" narrative that he piled on in his newest promo interview with Ville. It’s so coordinated. And we all see through his bs. Another thing, he needs to stop calling Kendrick an activist. He don’t understand how racist that sounds to label him activist making it look negative only coz he raps about things that matter to black people and not money and women like Drake. He better Tread carefully coz he been playing with cultural and racial sensitive matters with his white lenses. Last thing I will say, his thirst for fame no matter what will be the end of his credibility and ultimately his channel which started strong but he chose to be an ovo mouthpiece. I should add that his adamant obsession with affirming that Whitney and Kendrick aren’t together without any shred of proof but sheer hunch and need to pander to Drake is the thing that will kill the credibility of his hit piece

The truth is it didn’t hold its own in the beef. Not much of Drakes antics did which is why his loss felt so profound. What’s the Dirt is the clean up guy. Operating under the guise of “objectivity.” His tweets few weeks ago his angle away. He isn’t doing just a lyric breakdown, if he was he’d be done by now. What's the Dirt gives great breakdowns. I'mma give him his props. He tends to get really hyperfocused even - like when he broke down 6:16 in LA he said that he spent a lot of time trying to find out what the machine noise at the beginning of the track was. I don't think his whiteness precludes him from talking about the stuff around Blackness in Family Matters - he just needs to phone a friend and there has been enough discussion online about those aspects on Twitter and by various KZbinrs to where he can even just include clips and focus on talking about how things like the free the slaves line was perceived even if he doesn't fully understand it himself. That would be objective in a way that has nothing to do with Trump's both sides.

You're so unbelievably biased towards Kendrick, it's sad to see. What about having Dr Dre at the Pop Out Concert? Kendrick even had him introduce a song that mocks Drake's proximity to minors....when Dr Dre has been with a minor himself. He started dating Michel'le when she was 16 and he was 22...he ended up abusing her. I also remember how Dre tried silencing her when Michel'le wanted to release "Surviving Compton". Or are you also forgetting Dr Dre's other victims, including Dee Barnes, Tairrie B, Nicole Young, Lisa Johnson? Like damn, even if he has no proven allegations on himself, Kendrick's proximity to Dre is still problematic. Btw Drake is a POS & its good that he is being called out. Its just upsetting that the supposed objective commentators completely overlook Kendrick's relationship with convicted abusers (can't forget about Kodak either). Or how hypocritical is it for Kendrick to call out Drake's camp for sex offenses (Baka) but be completely okay with having Dre around

@@yyyyyy-f6m // I'm not here arguing whose the worse person, tf? My point is its hypocritical to call out Drake yet completely overlook Kendrick's relationships with convicted abusers. I'm more than willing to admit that Drake is a POS, but some of yall pull out a whole range of excuses for Kendrick. Weird af

@@Empire-d1vWhy do you keep pivoting to people around Kendrick and not stay focused on him? Also who has more involvement with younger fans currently (and for the past 10 years), Drake or Dr Dre? What you’re doing is attempting to redirect the focus away from Drake’s predatory and destructive behavior, so as to say ‘well these *other* people are abusive, so stop discussing Drake’. But if we concede to people like you and say ‘fine fuck Dr Dre too now what?’ then y’all try to put his behavior (from three decades ago) on Kendrick somehow. THEN it becomes y’all just listing rappers who you want ‘cancelled’ before Drake, almost like if we can’t fix abuse towards women *as a whole RIGHT NOW* then we can’t even address ANY bad behavior… It’s giving tired whataboutism Drake was actively doing harm, has been for a while, and Kendrick merely underlined his abhorrent behavior. So, if fans no longer want to support Drake then that’s on them. He can take his GENERATIONAL WEALTH that he’s made off of our communities and live a very happy life (away from streamers and young people). You don’t need to be debate-broing yourself to death cuz of a creepy predator who’s WAY past his prime

@@phoenixgarcia1575 ...Look at your comment for example. I DO NOT like Drake. I hate the guy, and I dont mind calling him a PDF. but when Dre gets called out, you get defensive, even assuming I'm a Drake fan.
