Job 9:15 Even if I'm in the right, I cannot answer him. I can only appeal for mercy. Psalm 6:9 The Lord has heard my appeal for mercy; the Lord has accepted my prayer. Psalm 55:1 Pay attention to my prayer, God, and do not hide yourself from my appeal. ISV, NET Verse Concepts Psalm 77:10 Then I thought, "I will appeal to this: the years of the right hand of the Most High." Psalm 116:1 I love the Lord because He has heard my appeal for mercy. Hey, teacher. Today I went to an used books shop. I saw a P. G. Wodehouse's Short Stories book. It is an Oxford Level 5 exemplar. I though, teacher would approve it, indeed. So I bought it immediately. Now, I 'd like to beseech for your attention to say thank you for your lessons.

Sir, could you repeat the adverb you used with beseech , I couldnt recognize it
@vinraghav86643 жыл бұрын
Sir, when you rate a word's fomality, do you rate it out of 10? Like "Beseech" formality score according to you is 7. So, 7/10?
@iswearenglish3 жыл бұрын
Yes. 1 being the most informal and 10 being the most formal. Nearly all words are in the range od 3 to 8 in formality. 5 is neutral and can be used almost anywhere.

This excerpt is from a movie entitled Tamara (it has the word supplicate in it): "To the ancients who were before time... hear my prayers. I *supplicate* myself before you. Now ready to make the sacrifice you desire. To the old ones, endowed with powers of love and attraction... bind my fate to that of the one I desire. And like this flame, like a phoenix from the ashes... let me rise anew to claim all that should be mine. With a touch, grant me the power to sway others to do my bidding. And destroy those who stand in my path. For this, I offer up my heart... my soul... my blood. I spill it in your name."

A family in a dormitory for temporal dwellers -beseech- *beseeched* the Accommodation Committee for an -extension- *extra* room because there is one room going begging. Also, a single mother of three knows about this room and *she is* pleading insanely for it. The chief of the committee has entreated both families to stop imploring for an extra room because it is against the rules of the dormitory. Probably the -question- *supplicants* will appeal to the court if no one gets this room after such supplications.

Romans 12:1-2 New King James Version Living Sacrifices to God 12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Psalm 142:1 I cry out with my voice to Yahweh; I implore favor with my voice to Yahweh. 2 Timothy 4:1 I solemnly implore you, in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is about to judge the living and the dead, and by His Appearing and His Kingship: Job 8:5 “seek God and implore the compassion of the Almighty Lord

Generally good categorization of the differences. Except I didn't care for using beg the question in it's bastardized, form to mean ask or raise the question, which would never occur if it were not already a well-known phrase with a different meaning, of an argument that assumes its conclusion--basically, circular reasoning. Also, in the USA legal system, defendants cannot be found innocent, only not guilty. There is adifference.
@iswearenglish3 жыл бұрын
It is very interesting that in the US defendants can only be found guilty, but I guess the burden of proof is still on the prosecution
@fredbloggs60803 жыл бұрын
@@iswearenglish Yes, the burden of proof is on the prosecution. If the defendant is found not guilty it means the prosecution has failed to prove its case or convince the jury of the defendant's guilt "beyond a reasonable doubt'. It doesn't mean they found the defendant is innocent or proven innocent, which he or she or a gender ambiguous person may or may not be, just as sometimes an innocent person is sometimes found guilty. That was a joke about gender ambiguous, in trying to avoid the generic "they", which doesn't match the singular subject structure of the sentence.
