Drs. Alistair Begg, Anthony Carter, Steven Lawson, R.C. Sproul, and R.C. Sproul Jr. answer questions on a variety of topics, including the difference between justification and salvation by grace; the distinction between truths revealed in Scripture and those that come to light through science, and baptism.
The questions answered in this session are:
1. What is your opinion on the invitation, "Invite Jesus into your heart?" Is this a true proclamation of the gospel?
2. What is the difference between justification by faith and salvation by grace?
3. How do we make distinctions between truth revealed in scripture and truth revealed through the sciences?
4. If we have one God, one Bible, one Holy Spirit, why are we as Christians so different?
5. How should we respond when other Christians bring up the errors of Luther and Calvin?
6.Why is God angry and wrathful toward those He never predestined to salvation?
7. Are Roman Catholics going to hell?
8. Since justification is by faith alone, what are we to make of Paul's declarations that we must all "give and account"?
9. How do I speak the truth to my child, a professing believer, who is living in a homosexual lifestyle?
10. As a pastor of a church which is given to seeker sensitive gimmicks and entertainment, do I stay or seek a pastorate elsewhere?
11. Should baptism be a reason to impede fellowship?
12. What is your view of what heaven and the new earth will be like?

Further, answers given reflect the views of the individual speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Dr. R.C. Sproul and Ligonier Ministries. Something supernatural happened to me when the black guy preached. When he said Christ invites us to his spiritual kingdom not the other way around. There was a sudden understanding of this truth but the understanding was an almost divine understanding, a revelation. I just saw the tuth of the supernatural kingdom of God folks.

After going to the Ligonier conference,I was so very blessed by the love of God these men of God have for one another,they are truly so very real,and when you hear the word of God being preached what a difference ,so refreshing to hear the word in whole with out it being taking out of context and giving the hearers the whole truth,being very challenged and encouraged to continue the race,to serve God with all my heart,to seek God and to study the word myself and to go deeper in Christ,being renewed in mind and spirit by the Holy Spirit to God Glory.

Now, as an old woman, listening to wonderful sermons by many of you ministers and searching the scriptures for proof of truth, I do not miss church going.Thank you Pastors, I learn different biblical truths from many of you, and I know that I am saved by Gods And Jesus grace, and I am waiting for His soon coming.✝️🥰❤️😃

I'm still neutral on MacArthur. He's pretty hard to agree with some times but he's usually good and Ive been listening to him for 38 years. John Because is clear in the Bible :) the rapture will occur at any time this is the rapture of the Church, Jesus will "raptured" us from this earth in a blink of an eye! Like a thief in the night! Therefore we have to be ready and repent daily to be in obedience. Now, I think the confusion some have is about the second coming of Jesus which is at the 7th trumpet 🎺 all eyes will see our lord Jesus coming back to earth as the King of Kings. I'd recommend John MacArthurs book on the second coming ... God bless!

@newhorizon1355

@@Justmy2mexpesos Theologian Walter Martin exposed the falsehood of the Rapture. a little girl 147 years ago had a so called vision then a Puritan preacher formed the Rapture idiology. The Church did NOT preach, teach, or instruct on the Rapture. They taught that at the Second Coming then we will be gathered up with Jesus in the clouds....... So MaCurthers rapture idiology is now effecting his theology. He said because no Christians are left after rapture, anyone living in the time if great testing can place Satan's Mark on them and still die and go to heaven.

I'm just curious about the context of the Pastor who has little control of how his church operates.....I'm wondering if he is a pastor within a multi "campus" (personally can't stand the use of that word) church and has to follow the rules, like some sort of a franchise. I used to go to a multi location charismatic church and the "location pastors" had little to no autonomy whatsoever.

Not every Christian belongs to a church and depends on a pastor or elder to counsel or confront a problem. The Bible has all the right teachings and guide and answers, so if a parent is a believer ,he can depend on his biblical knowledge and the love in his heart for his child to try to change his behavior and the rest , pray,pray and pray and leave it in the hands of the Holy Spirit.

i always look forward to hearing alistair begg, ..on the question of baptism, however, i kind of got the feeling he was backtracking, covering his bases a little. which i guess illustrates the complexity of views on baptism,,my own is covenantal .. the "and your household" would necessarily include children, particularly in light of first century households,..what was the chance of a household then NOT having infants?
@gracepilditch9388

I heard John MacArthur (believer’s baptism) and RC (covenant baptism ie baptism of infants) debate on this issue and both presented their cases extremely well. I’m with John MacArthur and was baptised when I came to faith in Christ having come out of RCism. Right now I can’t bring to mind the verses which helped shape this view. I love both these men and thank our loving Heavenly Father for them. I think you read the scriptures and make up your own mind. It’s not salvific issue. We may not agree with one another but we love one another as we are loved. One question I have, maybe you could answer? If you’re baptised as a baby could you be baptised again when you come to faith in Christ? 🤔 I ask this in all sincerity!
@lainegordon5831
@lainegordon5831 Жыл бұрын
@@gracepilditch9388 Probably because of Martin Luther, I always felt infant baptism was a sign of the covenant . "to be baptized in God's name is to be baptized not by human beings but by God" . but I agree with you- it isn't salvific,..and I think everyone would agree the thief on the cross was saved, despite no water/ baptism. Neither the act of circumcision nor the act of baptism saves someone, but what it represents.Circumcision was a symbol of the covenant, much like baptism could be considered an outward expression of an inward renewal, a new life, a new covenant. I haven't really studied this all enough, and not for several years. But this is where God has me now, I am leaning less toward infant baptism than I used to, but consider both sides to have valid points. Is the Abrahamic Covenant still in effect? Galatians 3:17 seems to imply that Paul views that covenant as a promise by God to bless Abraham and his offspring. Some would argue this is only for Israel perhaps., others say he is calling that covenant the gospel. Is the Abrahamic covenant -that in Abraham all the nations shall be blessed...in effect now? God's covenant promise was to bless all nations in Abraham, and a reference to the coming Messiah. Infants were included by God in the Abrahamic Covenant.Infants being circumcised did not comprehend what was occurring to them spiritually . If the Abrahamic covenant is still in effect -- by being equated with the gospel - would infants still be included in that same covenant? Where is the biblical admonition to exclude infants if that is still in effect? none of the epistles include a restriction of infants being included in God's covenant via baptism? Possibly less convincing support would be households, though I still agree this is a good argument.Acts 16, where the jailor and all his household were baptized, after the jailor had asked how he could be saved: And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 and brought them out and said, “Men, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their wounds, and he was baptized at once, with all his family. pel of Luke: "And they were bringing even infants to him, so that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus, calling them together, said: “Allow the children to come to me, and do not be an obstacle to them. For of such is the kingdom of God." (Luke 18:15-16). In Col 2:11-22 Paul posits circumcision and baptism, from old law to the new law. Re support for believers baptism, In the old Testament when a man wanted to be a Jew he had to believe in the God of Israel and be circumcised. In the new Testament to become a Christian we are to believe in Jesus and be baptized.That belief is obviously beyond an infant's comprehension. For a believer,the transformation (regeneration) by the Holy Spirit is the sign and seal of the New Covenant. Paul does seem to suggest some kind of a link between circumcision and baptism , and some of our doctrines are not explicitly stated in Scripture, so could that be the case here? There are centuries of disagreement on the question of infant baptism. I think if you have been baptised, there is no reason to think God wasn't working in that. But God would not mind it, I think, if you really wanted to, I err on the side that He is gracious towards us. Usually there is an objection about the extent of the work of God's grace in the lives of infants, ...but do we speak the Word of God to the spiritually oblivious unbeliever? ; is the unbeliever saved by the grace of God through the faithful preaching and teaching of the Bible? Maybe there is some measure of grace given to an infant or child whose parents are faithfully engaging in a covenantal upbringing. Possibly less convincing support would be the households argument, but first century households undoubtedly contained infants.Acts 16, where the jailor and all his household were baptized, after the jailor had asked how he could be saved: And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 and brought them out and said, “Men, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their wounds, and he was baptized at once, with all his family. Gospel of Luke: "And they were bringing even infants to him, so that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus, calling them together, said: “Allow the children to come to me, and do not be an obstacle to them. For of such is the kingdom of God." (Luke 18:15-16). In Col 2:11-22

I’m still pondering and reading through Acts found this verse: Acts 2:41 41 Those who accepted his message were baptised. Suggests these were adults. Maybe there were no children present? At any rate this is not a salvation issue and we are free to settle the matter by reading God’s Word and coming to a decision.

Based on Alistair Begg's extended view on fellowship, women do not have fellowship in some churched, including his at Parkside Church, since they neither can preach nor be elders (rightly so in my opinion) but it shows that pastor Begg can't have really thought out his position very carefully though he's holding fast to it, while saying that in other circumstances, he would agree with RC's definition of fellowship...

Sorry to see crude and ungodly comments with bad language posted here from those claiming to be more godly than the panel! Having said that I am loathe to be critical. However, ministers let their guard down a bit at fraternal conferences with one another so it may not be ideal to publish these discussions. For example to get a response to the final question "What is your view of what heaven and the new earth will be like" that begins with several silly jokes is absolutely appalling. How grievous to hear these men speaking that way. An audience giving applause only encourages this. Ministers of God don't need to be clapped when they give a doctrinal answer to a question. If I was on such a panel I really would have to ask for more reverence.

Dear Fred,I hope the following helps. If not , get back to me. There are two points here: 1.Ungoldy commentts posted against this video. 2. That there are strange matters in the video itself. 1. The foul language used by many posting comments about this video. It is all the more strange as while such posts criticise the video, they are themselves so ungodly as to have no credibility themselves! 2. The humour of the panel speakers does not need to be wiped out but could do with being reigned in at some points, e.g. toward the end when asked about the glory to come, the speakers respond with jokes. I find that hard to reconcile with holy men. I cannot imagine that they would joke about Jesus dying on the cross and I am sure that they would not. But the heavenly hope is so precious and holy that I cannot understand how they can respond with jokes. Why? Is it embarrassment? Is it something they only consider in an academic way and not a deep part of their hope to sustain them through the trials of the ministry? Are they really holy men? What is the explanation? It may be "conference cultural" and especially a fault of conference panels where men feel it necessary to lower themselves to a status with which they do not give the impression of superiority etc. Or is it just that they feel relaxed at a ministers' conference and let their hair down a bit too much?

Mill Road Church SW19 i think when they were joking around to me it didnt seem immature, or appalling. Tbh i got the impression that these men were all so genuinely comfortable with each other that they could be friendly and not stiff. It gave the whole Q & A a casual feel that i really liked. It didnt feel like a sermon (which can feel stuffy and underwhelming.) These men were happily discussing things as if they would at a family picnic. Plus i'm not appalled bc i know these men have a heart for God and r much wiser then me. I know they meant to be playful for the sake of having a nice laugh. Not to leaf anyone a stray. excellent point to start. it is always God drawing the sinner...unless God draws you...i have chosen you... name in the book of life from before the foundation of the world...honestly, apart from people wanting control and not wanting to be indebted to God in some way, there is no justification for espousing free will in regard to your salvation. in an abundant life of grace, we can obviously make some pathetic stumbles along our pilgrim progression, so i can see where it might appear to be free will when in fact God allowing you to make them or not, still has God in control. seems to me our tendencies will always be to choose badly unless the Spirit helps us...any helpful insights would be welcomed on this a couple passages seem free will-ish yet the lion's portion of scripture points to God's hand in everything to me

On R.C. Sproul Jr. answer to the question "Why is God angry and wrathful toward those He never predestined to salvation?". R.C. Sproul Jr. answered that the Holy Spirit through Apostle Paul's writing in Romans 9:20 "Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God?", while this is an answer (the answer in the subsequent verses) to those who are proud, it is a clue to the correct interpretation of Romans 9! God is a God of logic, reason, justice and more importantly, love (For God is love, 1 John 4:8, 16). Many interpret Romans 9 to the effect that God can do anything, including evil and so God is the author of evil (they cover it up by using the word 'ordained' to deny their interpretation is accusing God to be the author of sin), God ordained all (including evil) to come to pass. However, the truth seekers would do well to put more emphasis on verses Romans 9:22 & 23 to balance what these verses said to better understand what God is saying in Romans 9. The truth seekers' ultimate goal is to arrive at Jeremiah 9:24 in which God's lovingkindness is clearly shown in His dealing with every man (including Pharaoh), judgment, and righteousness, these are God's delight!

William, Your comment makes sense only if the human history starts only after the Fall and subsequent struggle. However, the Bible must be read in the whole context to make sense. The human history revealed in His Word starts from the wonderful paradise where there was no death, no punishment, no sin, no shame and with all good food whenever they wanted to eat, etc. It was our ancestors' desire to take place of God by becoming the Judge, as smart and righteous as God Himself. Even though Serpent's enticement was so irresistible, it was out of his/her innermost desire to disbelieve the 100% benevolent God and compete against Him, just as the Serpent suggested. -- Romans 9 passage suggests that the Creator in the age of Adam and Eve chose to desire the lie, while the reality was that God had created them and the entire world as the vessel to reflect His perfectly benevolent love - because the Giver gets the ultimate glory. The more difficult to give, the greater glory He gets as the Giver. And He is the Giver of all things as He created them from nothing. He is the "First Causer," which is different from any other "created." Is there anything in this universe that can exist without any cause, except for God? ... This is basically what the Romans passage is revealing to us if you read the whole context of the Bible. -- For more thorough and clear understanding, can you try reading the book, "The Unity of the Bible"? This is very interesting book for someone who seeks logical coherency, as well as moving beauty of the Bible. -- Shall we read with my friend? I read this book many years ago and got shocked for the clarity and beauty .. I learned of God Himself personally talking with me and .. with you.

Thank you for your reply! After reading your comment several times, we are in agreement! You see many theologians over-emphasized God's sovereignty (this is not reading the Bible in the whole context!), specifically, they over-emphasized Romans 9:13-21 and neglected what is said in verse 22-23! Because of this, they misinterpreted 2 very important verses so that their idea of God is stop-short of accusing God to be the author of sin and evil! They said "God ordained sin and evil", but when you read closely into what they really meant, they meant to said God is the author of sin and evil! The 2 verses are Exodus 7:13 and John 12:40. Search what they said about these 2 verses and you will understand my earlier comment! They often use Romans 9:20 to silent the valid questions, thereby missed the blessing of correctly interpret Romans 9.
@keikot4998
@keikot4998 7 жыл бұрын
Hi William, When Paul was writing Romans 9:20, he was thinking about God's authority as the Creator and the Ruler of the entire thing that He Himself created. Nothing exists in this universe that He did not cause as the ultimate cause. Even meaning or concept or emotion, etc., could not exist without His creation. Where have those "awareness" come originally from? "This kind of God who can create the first material from totally nothing can be compared with what?" There is the absolute distinction between the Giver of all good things and the recipients of all of them. God initially created the whole creation as the vessel to crown Himself as the Giver of all. That is what this passage is communicating. -- To see this discussion further, you can read The Unity of the Bible, by Daniel Fuller.

Rom. 3:28-30, "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law....since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one." Rom. 4:3, "For what does the Scripture say? "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness." Rom. 4:5, "But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness," Rom. 4:11, "And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also," Rom. 4:16, "Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all." Rom. 5:1, "therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ," Rom. 5:9, "Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him." Rom. 9:30, "What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith." Rom. 10:4, "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes." Rom. 10:9-10, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; 10for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation." Rom. 11:6, "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace." Gal. 2:16, "nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified." Gal. 2:21, “I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.” Gal.3:5-6, "Does He then, who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 6Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness." Gal. 3:8, "And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "All the nations shall be blessed in you." Gal. 3:14, "in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." Gal. 3:22, "But the Scripture has shut up all men under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe." Gal. 3:24, "Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith." Eph. 1:13, "In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise." Eph. 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God." Phil. 3:9, "and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith."

"believe and you will be saved",.. "those who are called are also justified.".."what can separate us from the love of Christ"... i would stick to doctrine in Paul mainly because revelation is so symbolic, and i listed some below (martin luther maybe had as much disdain for the book of revelation as he did for epistle of james) unless you're saying we can lose this atoning salvation which he proclaimed "it is finished", efficacious when God allowed me to believe..our works may indeed be judged at the final judgment, but our advocate lawyer will be there saying "these debts have been PAID !! i realize catholics seem to agree with 'grace alone' that, when bestowed, gives them the ability to build a life of works, but Paul made it clear that salvation was by faith alone.

As for the pastor who is seeking sound counsel from men who he obviously looks up to as instructive leaders of the church universally, as do I, there are myriads of circumstances and situations where resolution does not so simply and easily arrive. As an elder of a church in very similar straights, who not only encouraged but actually preached expositorily, the opposition usually, as is often the case with the enemy's nefarious schemes, comes slowly and incrementally. In my case the others, particularly new elders and a pastor sought the elevation of themselves and the church as a business before anything else and slowly showed a liberal heart and mind-set, entertainment and comforting the flesh became elevated. It was difficult to notice at first. Occuring with shrewdness and secretive, behind the back assaults against half the members and one elder (me--adult Sunday Scool teacher) who wanted to worship a Holy God, grow in faith and godliuness through better understanding of and presentation of the scriptures, we were ostracized. For two years I tried to leave, yet I felt the Spirit's love for those other members who remained true, many of whom became shut-ins, this love caused me to not abandon them. But eventually I was replaced by the wife of another elder as teacher, and my eldership position filled by another woman. Leaving, we held services in homes for a while and finally dispersed to other congregations. I know for certain that I personally grew in patience, in love and understanding through this hardship.

Hebrews 1:1-2 God speaks to US through his Son! We need to embrace the teachings of Jesus and having been baptized in and through HIS WORDS, we gain the unction (guidance, leading) of HolySpirit more clearly, more deeply. NO, I'm not on the panel, but the panel is not in the comments section either. Hope this helps. BeBlessed!

Pr Lawson said in 19:30-46. "God hates sin and He hates sinners". Respectfully, I believe that is the most outrageous theology I have never heard of. If God hates sinners, then Jesus death was in vain." I think Pr Lawson needs to correct his theological understanding on the character of God, "GOD IS LOVE" You are presenting to the world an angry God instead of a loving God who loved the world so much that He gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. I hope I can cheer someone who got discouraged by that discourse. cheers.

Though salvation is by Grace and through Faith in Christ yet the Rewards are according to our works and Faithfulness towards God in our walk in this world. After God in His grace saves a person ,he cannot live a careless life that displeases God. One day a believer has to stand before the Judgement Seat of Christ to give an account of himself to God. (Romans 14 : 10-12 ). (2. Corinthians 5 : 9,10.). The rewards will be based on both good and bad things we did in our bodies. The Holy Bible Says He is coming for those who love His appearing.He has prepared for those who Love Him what the eye has not seen ,nor the Ear has heard ,neither entered into the Heart of Man. Those who Love Him (obey His Commands) and are Faithful to Him will be rewarded. There is a difference between a believer and a true Follower of Christ. This I believe. I have a great Responsibility in this Life after Receiving Christ in my Life as my Savior. In most Churches this teaching is not given. Once saved you can live as you like is the tendency one gets today. To the Apostle Peter , The Risen Lord told him "...What is that to thee? Follow thou Me" (John 21:22.)

John Calvin: "Justification, moreover, we thus define: The sinner being admitted into communion with Christ is, for his sake, reconciled to God; when purged by his blood he obtains the remission of sins, and clothed with righteousness, just as if it were his own, stands secure before the judgment-seat of heaven. Forgiveness of sins being previously given, the good works which follow have a value different from their merit, because whatever is imperfect in them is covered by the perfection of Christ, and all their blemishes and pollutions are wiped away by his purity, so as never to come under the cognizance of the divine tribunal. The guilt of all transgressions, by which men are prevented from offering God an acceptable service, being thus effaced, and the imperfection which is wont to sully even good works being buried, the good works which are done by believers are deemed righteous, or; which is the same thing, are imputed for righteousness."

Only a pontificating theologian could claim inviting Christ into your heart is bad. 🙄🙄 Bible says we are in Him and He in us ✝️❤️

@@paulbacon5056 I believe you are implying that since Paul did not write “invite Christ into your heart”, then it is therefore actually a bad thing to do so. Is that the idea, or something else? Paul didnt write, “Pray to God that you may honor Him better” or “Tell JC you love Him”. By this logic (if it is what you are saying) those are also bad things to do.

Its good to read the Present with Religion, a book for free on the internet.The book is about the the truth of life and it shows the full picture of life for the first time ao that you may stop being deceived by the world and be able to follow the steps of Jesus and other prophets to Heaven.Knowing the truth is the key factor in our salvation.We must know the truth and live in it and change ourselves according to it in order to be saved.There is no other way to our salvation.With the knowlege of the truth there comes true repentance which means chsnging our minds ans also true obediance to God' s law and finally our sanctification which is a lifelonf process.And God in Hia mercy wil give us Hia wonderful grace which is the time and ability to make the proper change.Only in this way will we be able to attain our eternal salvation.Our task ia to find this narrow gate that leads to God and do it quickly and stay on it till the end ni matter what.Then and only then we will be saved.There is nothing more important or serious to do in this fallen world as our eternal fate depends on it.

I ( Jesus) stands at the door and knock if anyone let's me in I will come and sup with him or her. Revelation 3. Romans 10:9 if thou believe in thine heart that Jesus died and confess with your mouth God raised him from the dead you shall be saved. Jesus himself taught " John 17: I pray for those who shall believe on me through their word." And if you confess me before men then will I ( Jesus) confess them before my Father in Heaven. With this said, something is wrong when men are saying things contrary to Christ. You preach and still perish if you don't confess Christ my friends!
