Hands down- this is my favorite tutorial of all time! This is the first set of videos from you that I’ve watched and I’m crossing my fingers that you have other game videos out as well! If not I’m about to dive into your computer instruction- I’ve been overwhelmed by some of the tasks I wanted to learn but you make learning so easy I will give it a go. You have such talent!

Great tutorial! I was playing backgammon online and always wondered why some people play their home board pieces first. This all makes sense now. Thank you!

go play online at Backgammon Galaxy site. its free and it gives you immediate analysis after each game to show you where you made your mistakes. if you want a pc desktop program to learn with coach/tutor/learning mode to help you get Extreme Gammon for the PC ($60) or your phone ($8) and it will be the best investnebt you made to get better. all the pros use it

Ive watched through all the basic rules ones and you forgot something. If you choose to use both roles to move a price (say roll a 3 and 4 to move 7) you have to legally be able to stop the stone at the 3rd or 4th point before moving it the other 3 or 4 points. Basically that you have to treat it as if you were moving the stone twice, not just moving all those spaces at once. Otherwise, bravo! This is much more informative than any other backgammon tutorial I've seen.

Make your home board points in this order: Your 5 pt/their 5 pt; your 4 pt;their 4 point; your 3 point/their 3 pt. etc.. and try to make a prime extending from your 3 point to your 9 point to block them completely so they cant escape.

Best tutorial on the game so far. thank you
@tomy69176 жыл бұрын
At 3:55 the 6-1 roll should have blocked the 7 point (known as "the bar point") for 2 reasons: it "kills" your opponent's dice 6's and prevents your opponent from escaping to safety should they roll a 6 - 5 and prevents your opponent from taking the Bar Point if double 3's or 6's were rolled. Blocking your home points is a definite plus with the 3-1, 4-2, 5-3 rolls because you have to plan ahead to make it as difficult as possible for your opponent to return from the bar. A 6-4 roll at the beginning of the game has now been recommended as a "running move" from the home's 1 point.
@tomy69174 жыл бұрын
@RUFUS T. FIREFLY Hi ya Rufus :) Interesting play for your version of playing the 6-4 dice roll. I usually don't have much luck running with the 6-4 roll, seems my aunt (my usual opponent) will get me almost everytime. But, I am a bit confused about what you mean "It is more important than the bar point."
@tomy69174 жыл бұрын
Oh ok, I understand now, your comment was in regard to the move made at the 3:55 time stamp. It took me 2 coffees to finally be awake enough LOL.

In the early game the 5 pt is far more valuable than the bar pt. This is a common beginners error.

Good job! I have a question. Let's say all my pieces are in my homeboard and I have double sixes while I don't have anything on six. Do I play two times or 4 to bear off?
@cindyadams54625 жыл бұрын
Your teaching easy to follow. Thankyou. I have a question. In the bare off area, most of your checkers are in the bare off area, but stacked towards the back. Is it ever better to not bare off, Instead pull your checkers closer to the finish?
@tomy69174 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy, I would bear off as many checkers as possible with each roll. If I can't bear off 2 checkers, I will start breaking down the stacked checkers sitting towards the back to fill any vacant points to help assure I'll can bear off at least 2 checkers on my next roll of the dice.

Just discovered. I'm not a pro but I'm playing for a while now. I would make the 7 point for two reasons: - you have three points in a row, which makes it harder for your opponent to get out. - you have the 7 and the 8 point for your chips on the 13 point. Is there a real win on making the 5 point (I mean by winning percentage) or is it just a favor? -d.

What is the use of the numbered die
@tomy69174 жыл бұрын
Hi. The "doubling cube" raises the stakes of your win or lose. In tournament plays, if you think you are going to win the game you turn that cube to show a 2 & offer it to your opponent, if he accepts it the winner of the game will get double the value of the game win & the loser will get a double loss. If your opponent declines to accept your "double offer" the game ends right there & you win a point. If your opponent accepts your "double" & then the game turns in their favor, he may double you back by turning the cube to show a 4. If you decline, the game ends there & your opponent gets 2 credits for winning & you take 2 losses. In tournament playing, the amount of wins to win the match is decided on. Say you are playing a 5 point Match, whoever wins 5 or more games first wins that Match (not the most out of 5 games, must win 5 to win the Match). Using the doubling cube will accelerate your win (or loss) value per round you are playing during the Match. There are other rules & restrictions (look up The Crawford Rule - that's one version) for when you are allowed to "double your opponent". I prefer not to use the "doubling cube" & just play by the original rules.

Why is it called backgammon and not "sorry the spikey version!"
@drdark91343 жыл бұрын
because "Sorry" is a modern variant of 'backgammon' not vice versa.
