Bucky, I learned to program and got my job because of your tutorials. Recently I moved home to Greece and my landlord is a huge fan of Tavli (three types of backgammon played in series) and I was so surprised to find you had videos on this as well. I was like “I recognise this voice!” Thanks for these videos. Fun and informative as always!

My grandson and I were trying to play Backgammon with the weak instructions that came with the game. We put the game away!! These tutorials explain everything you need to know about backgammon clearly, and Bucky is fun to listen to. Thank you Bucky for these tutorials!!!

I wouldn't just hit them because the opportunity presents itself. You also have to think a bout the probability of their next dice roll. A huge factor.

I always teach my new students to perform these 4 strategies in this order: 1) HIT; 2) Build/Make a new point in your hone; 3) Get ready to build a new point in your home by slotting; 4) RUN your back 2 guys to try and get to safety, in that order. on each move/roll you should run tthru those 4 strategies to know whats your best pla for the most part.

You should have subtitled this video "The first rule about Backgammon is you don't talk about Backgammon", or maybe "I want you to hit me as hard as you can".

The closer to your own beginning they are, you should hit them. You shouldn't hit them in your homeboard, when you can't make the point. But it mostly depends on the situation. -d.

would you hit someone in your own homeboard if there is no way to save this coin? i mean if i hit someone on point 4 in my homeboard, he just has to roll a 4 to hit me and i have to run the hole way... this would be nice to know because i am a beginner... thanks a lot for your help

What's the other die for?

@mattrodgers16638 жыл бұрын
It's a doubling die. They're used to indicate the stakes of the game, typically for match play (commonly used in tournaments or when you play for money.) For example, you and your opponent agree to play a series of games (typically called a match) to a certain number of points (generally 3, 5, 7, etc.) Each individual game is typically worth 1 point, but during the course of the game an individual can offer to play the doubling die to double the stakes. The opponent then either accepts the die (and the increased stakes) or reject it, forfeiting the game at the existing point value. If they accept, they gain ownership of the doubling die until either a) the end of the game, or b) they choose to play the doubling die themselves (which the original doubler can then either accept or reject). This style of match play is much better than just a single game in much the way that Poker is more fun when you play a series of hands rather than just a single one. One game of Backgammon is very luck-based, but a series of games gives you time to make interesting decisions and manage the randomness of the dice rolls.

Some people leave counters all over the place and you can get 9 of their counters in your home. This is a terrible pain as they block your home and at the end of the match they will have the rest home and as you try to get home more often than not you have to leave single counters and they take and then have a lot of counters to attack your taken ones on the way back. I hate people who do this. It turns it from skill to a crap shoot
