Hello Michael Bush. Do you think its better to keep a hive in shade during the winter months to keep them clustered and to help reserve stores? I have heard stories where beekeepers keep their hives in full sun during winter and the bee often don't make it because they broke cluster? What are your thoughts. Grateful.

He seems to have lots of experience and knows what he's talking about. I just can't wrap my mind around letting the queen go directly in colder climates (I'm in upstate NY). Could someone explain further/convince me this isn't crazy? New beekeeper here.

spray em bees with water first to prevent them temporarily from flying around when getting the queen from the package box does helps

For how long would you recommend leaving the brick covering the hole in the top cover?

I live in Tanzania . I'm preparing to start beekeeping. Have noticed the bees shown on your video seem to be so calm, nothing like it in here. Would you recommend I handle my swarm bees the same way. Great video

Why are my new bees not coming out of the bottom entrance? I have three deeps, and they are only in the holes where there is sugar water,

hi flow, I’m a starter beekeeper and use a flow hive, but I’m trying to get a queen before spring, is it okay to get bees from bee removals
@FlowHive2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brody, It can be yes, as long as it's a healthy colony. We can't emphasise enough the value of local beekeeping mentors/connecting with your local beekeeping club so that you get a good recommendation from someone experienced in your area. You may find these yourself, or here are a couple of links to help too, our online directory of Flow affiliated beekeeping clubs and our online community forum, specifically the Connect With Locals section: www.honeyflow.com/pages/bee-club-directory forum.honeyflow.com/c/connect-with-locals/23 - Danika

I received most of my new hive and need to order bees. I am in Northern California and have not kept bees before. Is one pound of bees plus a queen enough? Or do I need to order more than 1 pound, please let me know what you advise for a new beekeeper and one Flow Hive.
@FlowHive8 жыл бұрын
+Alene Miskovetz, one pound of bees and a queen should be enough to populate your hive but it's a good idea to check with local beekeepers and see what they suggest is best in your location. A good place to ask is our forum - forum.honeyflow.com/

When releasing the queen in a colder climate what would be the proper way? He refers to it but doesn't describe what to do.
@lisalbc24908 жыл бұрын
+ricklg3 I hang the queen from the top of a frame. When they cluster at the top she will be up at the top too.
@kc9hej7 жыл бұрын
He says dont hang her between empty frames. You hang between two frames with foundation, so the box is easier to remove later when she is out of it. The bees will still build up wax around but you wont have to destroy anything to get the box out of there.

@@kc9hej How is this done? I'm new to bee keeping. You remove the plug and sandwich her between two frames with foundation? Would you need to remove a frame or two to accomplish this?
