I realized recently that a lot of the content I was consuming was taking from me, rather than pouring into me and have been looking for GOOD books that encourage reflection and so on. I appreciate you so much, may Allah reward you immensely

You should start a classical book of the month (steering more towards Allah and spirituality). Something we could all connect and talk about.

May I recommend some classics from France as a Muslim sister who loves classical literature. La Comtesse de Segur is a female writer who used to write moral tales about the lives of little girls and how they experienced discovering morality, what is good and bad, in 1800 France. I personally loved reading '' Les petites filles modeles'' (the good little girls, in english, as in a model of morality) as well as ''Les malheurs de Sophie'' (the misfortunes of Sophie, who was a troubled child with a sad family life who got adopted into another life and had to adjust her behaviors as such). In fact, Awiista, I would like for you if possible to personally review and make a video about Les Malheurs de Sophie. It's a moral tale which I think deserve a big deep dive and more recognition for all girls who want to learn about emotional growth and moral development. I went to Catholic school and I deeply respect my upbringing and the cultural values of older more conservative Catholic people, especially my teachers in elementary school Nicole and others, who loved me and used to call me a model child and wanted me to skip grades and even visited my home once to have dinner with my mom. In fact I met many catholic people here, from the deeper older nobility, who used to do charity and christian volunteering to help the people in Syria personally, and many of them treated me with such kindness and respect. I recommend those books from La Comtesse de Segur about a girl's upbringing to all my sisters and especially if you have little sisters who love to read, this will be a formative experience for them.

Ma Sha' Allah sister I've been trying to find classics with good morals and beliefs ! You should totally make a video similar to this but with more modern books. Every book I find nowadays seem to have some form of explicit content in it, so it'd be lovely to find one that focuses less on things like that 😅

alhamdulillah this came on rec! i recently went on umrah and found myself turning to God more. I already ditched music several months back. I found myself removing all the fictions from my reading list bc I feel it has no benefits to me than non fictions. I think this video meant for me like I know fictions can have impact, I just don't know which one. Thanks!

“Sylvia’s Lovers” (Elizabeth Gaskell) was the first classic lit book that made me truly think that a moral world could exist! And that virtue was accessible. It focuses on the life of a teen girl in pastoral England growing up in a time of political & economic upheaval. It’s a good read.

Hey! just wanted to ask if you consider that the picture of Dorian gray is an appropriate book especially for a 15years old teenager i heard people say it is indecent...
@awiista2 ай бұрын
It depends on the 15 yr old. As I mentioned, this one isn’t as clear-cut as others, and Oscar Wilde leaves it to the reader’s discretion to decide the morality of the message. The book is about living a life of hedonism and its consequences. The “indecent” part lies in one of the characters encouraging hedonism through long dialogues.

Salaam sister, i would recommend a book called 'the redemption of David Corson' by Charles Frederick Goss. It's just over a 100 years old i believe and its written so well and covers themes such falling from innocence and the road back,i highly recommend it. As far as i know it's not a well known book and the author only wrote this novel.

When you say Modern do you mean Contemporary books or books from the Modern era? A lot of “Classics” are from the Modern period, that’s why I asked! 🤗
@awiista2 ай бұрын
I mean Modernity and post modernity as I explained in case for classics :) I understand - and that’s why I explained that although the ones I have chosen aren’t all necessarily from pre modernity it still holds the moral values of pre modernity bc it isn’t very new and therefore fully inspired by ideas we hold true now. Hope that’s more clear ☺️
