Hi! So, I analyzed your highway drop. You certainly learned a lot since then, since this was 2 months ago, but for all new riders watching this... This is one of the many reasons why it is recommended to downshift through each gear when slowing down, so if you suddenly have to get going again, you don't have to find your gear. You braked with the clutch in. This can happen when you're new or in an emergency, however, when you let the clutch out again, thats when 6th gear had something to say and you stalled. Also, always remember you can pull the clutch in fast, but need to let it out slow (aka feathering).

That girl motorist that helped you was an angel to help you with your motorcycle. If ever in the future you drop the bike, with one arm, lift the handlebar and with the other arm lift up by using the grab bars on the side where the passenger would hold onto. Another way if the bike is heavy is to use both arms to lift up using the passenger grab bars. Props to you for staying calm.

I'm doing this out of concern, not to pile on this thread with negativity. Unfortunately no one seems to have coached you even slightly on the path to basic motorcycling competence. Below are some reasonable steps... 1) MSF course (not sure if you did), 2) Purchase suitable bike (which you did), 3) Have the bike delivered to your home, don't ride it home 30-45 minutes from the dealership with no biking experience. 4) Read up and learn the bike a bit e.g. it will not start in gear - any gear, Plus what the break-in period is for a new bike (rpm and top speeds - not sure if the bike was absolutely new, if so, you should have stayed below 5000 rpm and 55 miles, until 600 miles. 5) On a quiet weekend Sat/Sun pick the closest paved area, subdivision, school (preferably) and practice, practice, practice. 6) Focus on start, clutch/friction zone, roll to 20 mph, shift to second, stop smoothly. repeat. practice turns at correct speed for those turns. 7) Gradually over the days increase your radius around the neighborhood, especially getting comfortable around intersections, signals. 8) Move to 50 mph roads where you can get comfortable with fast moving traffic - everyone's doing 60 usually. 9) Graduate to highway trying to stay at 70 and not taking too many risks, riding conservatively for at least a month, or preferably forever; 10) One life, enjoy the excitement of motorcycling, but please don't invite death or injury so easily. All the best.

From one female biker to another, if you ever have trouble getting it in gear while you have the clutch in like at the start of the video, sometimes it can help to smoothly let the clutch out to right where the friction zone begins, and it'll usually drop in. She didn't. Don't do it like her please, bad example, and this is not an insult to her. Her riding is as you would expect from a beginner, it's acceptable. But she's going way too fast, her fundamentals aren't even there and the decision making in traffic is pretty bad at times. Yet she's going at speeds she has no clue how to handle, no clue on how to actually stop. Didn't have the reflex to grab the clutch when bike was stalling a d she dropped it, that's fine, acceptable. But before that she was doing 100mph. That can't be good. If this offends anyone sorry, this is not to say you can't learn, just that what you do is dangerous and.. bad.

I know this video is 2 months old and I assume you have far better shifting discipline, but don't feel bad. The blame is on the MSF course not you. They need to focus more on shifting instead of staying in 1st to 2nd (3rd on the highest side). I think they forget when you've been riding for a while timing and awareness of RPM when stopping and starting comes second nature. When ever I'm coming to a stop I grab the clutch and down shift from whatever I'm at to 1st gear and progressively brake until I'm at a complete stop. I'm aware the speed-bros think its better to just progressively engine break through each gear but when you're new its not worth it. Once you've mastered that then learn how to engine break, I would say only after you've gotten the hang of that should be on the freeway 😧. Crazy easy to lock up the rear tire if you shift wrong.

@@emmaandrews8299 wrong, abs is pretty conservative on modern day japanese bikes and the chances of a wheel actually locking up require like 34 different weird things to happen all at once. never gotta worry about it. the ABS on euro bikes is better and lets you get closer (but not actually reaching) to wheel lockup.

Yeah it's beguiling that they dont explain rpms and shifting better. I do the lazy way pretty often, but I also think its good practice to hit the down shifts (conservatively) or be in a more active mode. IE, have the proper gear ready in case i do need to engage it. Id hate to have 1st gear "prepped" on a long coast down, only to then have to get on the gas and over rev.

I would suggest, find a parking lot you like, sit on the bike and let the clutch out very slowly(no throttle). Learn where your clutch engages/disengages. Then, at 5-6mph, practice balance and rolling slowly with your feet up. Also, I used tires, but you can use anything that won't damage the bike(maybe cover the landing pad with a blanket), to practice picking the bike up. There are tutorials BY WOMEN on youtube. Jen over at RevZilla is a small lady that likes big bikes, it's possible! I think Doodle on a Motorcycle has a good tutorial on her channel.

Newer motorcycles have a crash sensor for if they're dropped. You were struggling to start the bike as when the sensor detects a drop it will shut off the bike for safety. To start the bike after a drop turn it off at the ignition with the key and back on again. If there's no mechanical reason it won't start then you won't have a problem starting it again after this.

UK viewer here. What's with the left most lane being separated from rest of highway with a solid white line?
@frodelangset979027 күн бұрын
That is why you should not coast with the clutch pulled. You need power to the back wheel to keep balance at slow speed and also when turning (like u-turns). Therefore always shift gear according to your speed while decelerating, releasing the clutch and use engine braking (in addition to brakes if necessary) to reduce speed. Also, Kawasakis (modern ones) have a switch that kills the engine when you drop the bike (when it lays ion its side). You always have to turn ignition off and on again with the ignition key after you drop it to get started again. There are tonns of videos on the internet on how to pick up your bike. To avoid stalling, give more juice with the throttle and use clutch lever to slowly add speed when starting up. Most motorcycle engins do not have any power with low rpm's. Even long stroke engines (typically cruiser bikes, plenty power at low RPM's) will need to have some juice when starting because they are so heavy (unless you really take it slow in the beginning). Happy biking! I can see you love this!

It happens. I hit two cars when I started riding, later found out one of them was my college professor. You make mistakes and you learn from them. Do not think too much.. atleast you did not hurt anybody. Always remember to downshift or do rev match When upshipting from 1st >2nd let clutch out slowly. And you can start your bike from 2nd gear you don't need to go all the way down to the 1st gear. It's al about the clutch.

If you can, put out your kick stand. Turn around,and grab the front brake to lock the front tire up. You can then grab the rear end of the bike since it shouldn't roll off now. And treat it like you're lifting weights. So, when you pull it up. Its easiest to lift with your back to it. And thats how I've always done it. kind of like you're doing weighted squats. Don't give up on learning. Your personality really does belong in the biking culture. As a guy, I can say if I was around. You'd had help. But, alas at this point, just big words on the internet. Dropping your bike is common, not a big deal. But you ran wide and into the sidewalk on accident. That is a huge red flag. Riders die all the time going wide. Not trying to be mean, but you really should spend more time in a empty parking lot and do something like motojitsu drills. Being a new rider doing vlogs is good for content. Its relatable to new riders and I understand why you do it. But perhaps, doing the more conventional, boring approach and practicing would be better?
