Hi Mike. Thank you. I am a 48 year young chic... following you since Covid lock down in Ontario. I've been an RMT for 20 years. I am also an Osteopath, and former nurse. My favourite music to treat to is classic rock and heavy metal - bands like Zeppelin, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Disturbed, Linkin Park. Very therapeutic.. top requests from my client, can u believe it?? I also have MS.. I NEED to keep my brain and my body firing. Plus really since a teen, I would fall in love with the drummer... so amazing to watch live bands. Well... this is the beginning of our love story. Stay tuned. Thank you. Xo Christine

Very helpful. My wife bought me a set of electronic drums for Christmas. I've been playing guitar for 11 years and bass for 8 years so I wanted to learn drums to add to my repertoire lol. Fortunately, Rock Band helped me learn a little about keeping time and adjusting to the overall feel of playing drums. I can play some basic rhythms, I'm just trying to learn some fills. I've learned a few that I've fudged into songs but I want to learn some more technical stuff so I have something to work to

My drum teacher taught me drum fills with a cheat.. For example 16th notes are coca cola when you're counting :) Haha there's also pepsi, mountain dew and cream soda. It's actually a really clever way of teacher someone I think cause I can never hear myself counting over my drums and the earplugs haha :)
@wwebadgerse10 жыл бұрын
coca cola is pretty hard to say in succession & speed. i think counting the proper way is easier. (1,2,3,4), (1&2&3&4&), (1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&a) and triplets(1&a2&a3&a4&a)
@wwebadgerse10 жыл бұрын
wwebadgerse by proper i mean the generic way, there is no "right" way
@abbyburgoyne543010 жыл бұрын
I don't do this anymore as I'm a lot more advanced than I was when I learned that. I think it was easy to learn that way, but obviously no I just count normally. It's a better flow when you actually count the proper way, so I agree with you. :)
@donkeytoss9 жыл бұрын

I will get the sheet but still it would really help if you went much slower in some portions. For example on fill 4 at the beginning if you could slow way down to 1/4 of what you are doing and speak the drum you hit and count 1e&a2e&a etc. Just do that a couple times. The student can then back up the video for review. It would help cut down the time of learning quite a bit and it would help fix it in the students mind more.

A great example of the 2nd basic fill demo you do occurs in most 1960s and 1970s music - the so-called 16th-note fill. It was used by a rock band who coined the "Hawaii Five-O" theme on TV, and also was used in an extended version by the Safaris in "Wipe Out' - so basically this was known at first as the "surf drum fill." You hear such drum fills a lot in a lot of pop and rock songs on vintage Sesame Street programs when 1970s funk was popular, so sometimes this was known later as the "funky drum fill." A great example of that appeared in the Sesame Street's "11 Cheer Song" by the Keith Textor ensemble--in that break in the middle of the song, the drum fill lasted 4 measures. Now that's funky!
@lindenly227 жыл бұрын
The variant of that 2nd fill is this - do as Jared did with the 16ths, but take out that cymbal crash - instead, finish with a kick, or a low tom + kick. This variant was used in the opening 2 measures of the "Hawaii Five-O" song. Also, this fill also was used by disco drummers as well. A great example of that occurs in the next-to-last measure of "Last Dance" of Donna Summer - listen to the 16th fill just before the final chord blast on the quarter note of the last measure (which is the F major chord).
