I started drum lessons at 15. Now 58 years old and still playing. I had an incredibly talented and technically proficient drummer as my first teacher, and he was a hell of a nice person. He was also the worst drum teacher Ive ever come across! I wish he'd been as relaxed and inspiring as you are. My wish is that every drummer, regardless of age or ability, finds their way to your pages. You represent the very best attributes of your craft. My thanks for sharing your knowledge, enthusiasm and wisdom with us all.

Wow, what a fantastic lesson. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime! I got so much more out of this video than countless other "beginner fill" videos because you're teaching me how to come up with new fills on the fly from the ground up, and you showed me how to practice them effectively on a loop. I'm practicing all 5 patterns with a metronome on the up-beat. I will never freeze up when it's fill time, ever again (hopefully)! Thank you Rob

I am a left-handed,but play as a right handet...I'm pretty I play with churches and groups but I'm not professional with it.but this video just made me really realize that the sticking does make a difference..I developed a right handed way of playing over the years so I have that same sound but either I'm single stroking it or double bounce it..but it sounds jus like this video..I never really practiced left handed playing..but this video showed me a technique to playing..now my right leg needs lotsa practice I can't get the fill using the foot pedal..but..it sounds the same with what I do..u can bounce or slide my foot on the pedal but I can't control it to play a fill with it...I thought bout trying a double pedal for awhile but haven't yet..but again this video showed me something to practice

Outstanding stuff, Rob. You are making better drumming more accessible for the large group of “just OK” drummers! All this stuff is clear & doable. The importance of the foundation of sticking vs the color & texture of the voicing is so fundamental - thanks for pointing out the order of priority! Likewise, your tutorial of kick drum pedal technique (+, 0, -), was clear and easy to grasp& practice. Many thanks!

Rob man once again you read my mind. I use these all just jamming, it's when I start the think about my next few phrases I get caught up. Practicing the actual sticking mechanics I think will free my mind... Instinctively selecting one depending on the next phrasing..... And Plus 1 for the far right side crash.. I stumbled into the need as I do a good bit of floor tom work naturally. Having a crash and a splash far right allowed me more flexibility in connecting to new Phrases, as well as that reset to the snare is less manic..... If you do a clinic in the Washington dc metro area, or Atlanta Georgia area after this fall I'm in the front row.. Jah Bless

I've beem working on my left hand ability all week, then came across this fill video - great stuff! I will be working on fill #1. I just like the sound of it. Also, what I really appreciate about this material is that it is professional level instruction that is not played at 1000 BPM! Some professionals present great fills, beats, etc. on KZbin, but they are played as examples that are way too fast. Every good drummer should know that the best technique has to be learned slow before its brought up to speed. Rob -bless you for your excellent instruction. It helps me keep my chops up and is really improving my playing! Keep up the good work.

Been playing bass for about a year. My ADHD really keeps me from reaching my full potential on the bass, although getting good, I had to take up drums so I can push myself to stay in my studio. About 3 months ago I bought a used drum kit and decided to watch a few of your tutorials and a few on using double kick pedals and I swear I've been playing 4-6 hours a day during the week and weekends I'm in my studio 14-16 hours unless I have something goin on... everyone thinks I'm lying when I say I've been playing 3 months if that! Thanks man your video shows are all most people would need to actually become a drummer. Cant say I didn't have experience with beats because I'm also a DJ/engineer so I'm fluent with beats and counts and timing/measures and etc but I just wanted to give you some love back! Keep it up!

as a 61 yr old 'drum owner' (really a guitar player), THANK YOU, i will practice all of these so i can impress anyone who will listen till they confiscate the kit. You're a great teacher, what a cool lesson for me, and how can a 'less than OK drummer' learn how to double stroke the kick drum? best to you!!

Thank you. You are confirming something I was figuring out on my own but wasn’t sure what to call it. “Learn the sticking first!” Such a good lesson!

Please definitely more videos for OK players. I learned to play in church and I learned by ear. First time I’m actually watching a lesson. And this lessons are just so easy to follow. And yes I’ll be getting my t-shirt. Thanks and please keep it going man.

I'm going to work on all of these. I appreciate how the sticking is more important. You can then surprise yourself by exploring different combinations. Great stuff.

Just wanted to big you up! This is the best video I've seen yet on getting the sticking down and actually speaking like a normal person. Not throwing around senseless words. Made perfect sense and I love your patience! Thanks my friend! Much much llve from NC.

Dude. I love you. This video is so valuable. I love playing around with these different fills. I wrote them all down and just choose which fill I'm going for every time and trying to be creative with it. So much better than staring at notes.

Thanks my friend great lesson. I'm an older drummer 58 and been taking formal lessons for about a year-and-a-half... Kind of a bucket list thing but your lesson turned on a couple lights that were missing as far as mixing rudiments around the kit... the paradiddle one I think it was number two really put it all in perspective. Thanks much.

Great job Rob, I've been playing for over 50 years, always looking for something different, kind of a spin on a paradiddle and I like it, glad I ran across your video , very nicely put together, most videos have too much talking and not enough playing, but not yours,Thank You
