Thanks for the tips!! I will definitely give this a go. I do not generally use "glimmery" colours, would it be ok to just use the darker shade in the set on the eye lid?

Yes, for a more smokey eyeshadow look a darker matte colour works well, but a lighter matte colour on the lid can open the eye a bit and has a similar effect to the shimmer shades as a highlight. Same goes for inner corner and brow bone highlight (just use a lighter colour, I use a bone colour for all matte looks as hightlight colour).
