Nice video! As a tip; be careful not to run sensor wires alongside high power wires (alternator wires, wind shield wiper engine, starter engine, claxon,...) or wires carrying high pulse rates (ignition,...); it will affect the signal in the sensor wire and may give false info to the ECU. Wires can pick up the electro magnetic field from another wire running parallel for some length and thus induce weird voltages. Crossing a high power wire is no problem. Car electric systems are one of the 'dirtiest' networks possible; lots of spikes and unclean (fluctuating) voltages in what should be stable DC voltage. So take good care of proper grounding where necessary too; don't just connect a negative wire somewhere on the chassis (in a car the whole body work is considered negative or 'ground'). Thanks for your great informative channel and clear explanations!

I learned about this the hard way when a friend did a subwoofer install for me way back. he has the 4awg power wire too close to something and the EMF played havoc on the car. Funny thing is, it was fine for months before it actually caused a problem.

Holly smokes, you just saved a bunch of time and money here. For starters, I was thinking of enrolling in a school to get this knowledge, which turns out, is very difficult and if I get in, expensive as well. There is cost of fuel to travel, time and all other things that come with it. So, thank you for saving time, energy and money. Much appreciated.

Nice guide as always! I'd recommend anyone buy a few decent quality depinning tools if they are getting this deep into wiring. They also make relay 4/5 pin connectors to tidy that bit up or small fuse/relay boxes. Once you get started it can actually be a lot of fun! Everyone makes mistakes though. When making the ignition harness for our rotary BRZ from scratch, even though I read the diagrams correctly and even wrote down my wiring correctly on my spreadsheet, I still managed to switch a white and blue wire. It reversed the order two coil packs were firing and funny enough the car still ran, but luckily I diagnosed it later when chasing other issues. Double and triple check your work! A lot of professionals will use a multimeter to continuity check every wire from ECU side to engine side before wrapping up a harness.

Hello, I expertise in cars wiring and specially in standalone ECUs wiring. You made a pretty good job. You told about soldering but in cars you really don't want to make joins that heat would weaken and get lose. Unless you're connecting wires to integrated circuits holes you always prefer crimping. You selected an aluminum plate to screw in ECU fusebox and relays but aluminum is conductive. Maybe I would have selected PTFE or PVC or plexiglass plate for that job. The issue you could have encountered with wires insulator hard to pin in connector could come from wire itself. There is different wire qualities over there, starting with the very common but ugly chinese PVC insulated wire to the best and more expensive raychem T4/T6 thin and heat resistant insulator wires, with FLRY wires and TXL wires in between that are much better than PVC insulated wires but less expensive and more common than raychem T wires.

Molex makes blanks. Or you can make your own. I always start by blanking all of the unused pins, then checking and rechecking my work. For me this helps by giving me several other pin references. Also you will want to do this on a machine where the area you are mounting the ECU, or any controller for that matter, is not a weather tight area. This helps protect your ECU/controller pins from corrosion.

The greatest skill for this type of project is patience. You may have to read something 10 times before you understand it. Try to keep what you have to remember to a minimum, write everything down if it is different than the diagram. Don't be shy with the connectors, give each wire a good tug to check the crimp and the connector when installed. Better it pulls out now.

One thing you can do when splicing wiring, to clean it up and make it look nice, as well as make it easier to trace if the wire ever needs to be criticized during troubleshooting, is to use a slightly lower guage wire as a "bus bar" wire, run it near all components it will be connecting to, then connect smaller wires to it using T-tap crimps. or otherwise a solution that can joint off of the bus bar wire. It's not a solution that works everywhere, but there are moments where it can turn a rat's nest of wiring you have to dig through, and rebuilding a crimp with several wires, into following and unclipping the right T-Tap if you need to replace a section of wire.
