@@wiktorman Yo. Hey. We've been invited to 3 schools to perform and judge battle of the bands, close friends with bands famous here in my country. Hoping they take us under their wing. Haha. Maybe they're just waiting for us to be REALLY ready, you know? Before this virus, we find gigs on Facebook. Positive feedbacks so far. I'm happy, just really bummed we couldn't perform and right now, been doing Facebook live. We enjoy it, but took a break for a while. Wow. I'm like talking to a friend, but thanks for asking! 😁

This seems like such a monumentally huge thing that beginners aren't told a lot of the time (from KZbin teachers at least). What a great thing to learn.

Sooner or later, anyone who teaches guitar (myself included) has to work with students to correct this habit. Your demonstration was perfect. Thank You, Jen. You are da BEST! ❤️

Thank you for the clear explanation and exercise. I have muscle memory from another instrument that I’m trying to break since I’m learning guitar. Look forward to learning that (1)I have more bad habits (kinda nice having a few vices left); and (2) you’ll show me a solution to changing them so I’m not holding myself back.

I started to be very strict about this a year ago. It was painful and uncomfortable but I immediately saw results and cleaner sounds even in the discomfort. This is a great tip -something all teachers should begin with instead of letting the bad habits form.

Hi Jen, I have noticed that you can bend just the tip of your fingers at 90degree while keeping the rest of it straight. Lucky you because I cannot do that. When I reached string 6, I mostly mute the 5th one because my fingers are arched and not like you in a “L” shape. Lots of people have this ability. I think I need to tape my fingers to a Popsicle stick in a “L” shape and sleep overnight with this until I get this extension or flexibility. Good lessons as always.

I am just trying (again) to learn how to play and one problem I have is the skin on the upper part of my hand, I guess you could say at the top of my palm ends up muting the high e string. I broke that left wrist skydiving so it has a little less range of motion and flexibility.

Thanks so much for this lesson. I have fit for months trying to make cleaner sounding chords & this is how. It's hard becuz I learned how to play with bad thumb position cuz I am double jointed in my left thumb & other wrong technique & positioning habits. I wish you would make a video about correcting bad habits like this. Thanks again. Good video!

Hey, this has been really helpful and great to learn about alternative hand/finger placement. Question - because I'm now pivoting against my thumb rather than my palm my thumb gets tired/achey really quickly. Will that pass over time and practice or am I doing it wrong?

OK so after vaguely teaching myself to play guitar, I decided to get serious, and Jen is one of the instructors for Fender.com. I love it - it's structured and has a good pace. However, I have a question about this video: so my guitar idol is Bob Mould. He clearly breaks the (bleep) out of this rule. Is ths like a "nobody would teach that" like you see with athletes with hitches, or is it just a question of personal preference? See kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHmZXpuwabyofZo and it's super clear that Bob doesn't ascribe to this theory. Thanks for any advice going foward.

Wow, what is wrong with playing open cords muting unwanted strings with the thumb while strumming hard. I already cringe at the thought of how bad will those a b and more so d cords sound when hit accidentally with unwanted string. If you learn the right form right first, then brake the rule, it is OK. Of course if you need a good stretch across multiple frets the thumb goes behind the neck, naturally. I disagree, worked really hard to learn that thumb over and fretting technique. Those open chords sound just fine if not better.
