I really do love these videos, they help tremendously and it's great to have multiple views but there's one more I'd like to see, especially on this one, and that's a cam even angled with the hi hats themselves so I could watch the opening and closing and how far they're being opened and closed. wow, I had not idea drum hits were referred to as notes. Not that I know much about drumming. I create drum patterns for my own music, but it's strictly based on what I like, and what I know from listening to music. But I never understood hi hat patterns, so this is interesting.

But like how open is it? Fully no weight on the pedal? What if your hat cymbals are over an inch apart? Still fully open?

For people who look for answers: Your hihat should be half open (half the weight). But if your hats are an inch apart then you shouldn't put any weight.

Most drummers have no concept of opening and closing the Hats on individual 16th notes while still keeping time- especially involving syncopation. David Garibaldi of the band 'Tower of Power' was a master of that technique, but only a few other drummers know how to do it. You should be able to open and close the Hats on any beat in virtually any groove! After doing it for decades, I'm still learning new techniques that I never hear anywhere!
