Hiya Barry ,I have 9 beds on my allotment and I dug them all in the winter months ,so a few weeks ago decided to start no dig ,so I cardboarded one bed that was empty ,got some well rotted manure and laid it on the board finally put on a good layer of my compost on ,put in some trial items -- beetroot ,radish ,and lettuce -- all growing well !!!! . Now its onto other beds ,that can be changed and to make as much compost has possible --- way forward --NO DIG ,thanks

Do keep us updated and you can look forward to no more digging and more time doing other things - keep pulling any weeds you see coming through and by next year you will have significantly less weeds!

30 + years of no dig, Winter here in New Zealand, fed the Shearer's today, home grown potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, parsnip and broccoli with home grown lamb and own mint sauce. Parsnip and broccoli were harvested yesterday. Have also ready, carrots, yams, leeks, chard, perpetual spinach, cabbage and in tunnel house lettuce, sugar snap peas, radish and spring onions, plus a few brassicas, spinach, chard, Chinese cabbage etc. Have in storage onions, garlic, pumpkins. Yes you do get weeds, accidentally introduced a terrible one with a bulk load of compost about 15 years ago, am still getting rid of it.

I hill up my spuds with leaves collected in the autumn. I’ve had two harvests from two fabric bags more from the second ones Pentland Javelinn. I’ve pulled all my garlic as it fell over dramatically and it’s drying in the poly, still getting spring onions and lettuces. I’ve had a few more strawberries but it’s still cold and wet and everything in Sheffield is slower than in previous years. I’m keeping the beast fed too Rhubarb cordial to prepare next week for the grandchildren- It may be wet and cold but there’s plenty to do. This week I had some mangoes from a local retailer 7/ for £1 so I made 9 jars of mango chutney for the autumn curries.

@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 I agree- no dig gardening seems a less intensive method of gardening for certain. I only spend 30 minutes, at most weeding each week. It is so easy to maintain, so easy to plant and so easy to harvest. I wouldn't swap this method of gardening for anything else.

Looks like we are harvesting a lot of the same things. My potatoes are falling over a little so I'm sure there are something down there. And I get so overwhelmed with potatoes by July I don't mind harvesting some small. I've gotten two harvests of calabrese and will be getting at least a couple more and hopefully more as side shoots develop. I grow snow peas and have been overwhelmed with them the last couple weeks. Will probably be freezing some next week. Onions aren't ready yet but garlic is close. I'll send a couple pictures of my harvest. I am having problems with my Romanesco maturing. The cauliflower went into the ground at the same time and that was harvested a couple weeks ago but the Romanesco has still not formed heads. I'm becoming annoyed because I have other plants waiting to go in that spot. Did you ever have a problem like that ? The plants look great but no heads.

Great video Barry & Mrs W. It's amazing how weeds seem to find similar looking foliage plants to grow amongst. Almost like they know how to disguise themselves. I grew Marathon on your recommendation this year and cut my first 2 heads last week-delicious!. I now have the rest of the crop to harvest as it has all come ready at the same time, so I guess much of it will need freezing. I guess that being an F! it all comes ready at much the same time. I harvested my garlic last week as I had rust and assumed they wouldn't grow much more and didn't want them to split. . Not as big as they might have been but still a reasonable size and very usable. I forgot to net my strawberries outdoors and the birds have got to them before me. I have been harvesting the strawberries in the baskets in the greenhouse however. Not a glut but a dessert bowlful most days.- perfect for breakfast 🙂I have grown mange tout peas this year as I am feeling lazy about podding them as well as the broad beans. The draw back to growing my own is all the prep work before freezing. Sometimes i think how much easier it would be to buy organic veg as and when i need it with no huge quantities of veg to prepare and freeze, but then I remind myself of the joy I would be missing in gardening and being able to harvest and cook my produce within minutes of harvesting. Nothing beats the taste of freshly harvest food, not even the best organic vegetables can beat it, so I guess I i'll go on prepping kilos of fruit and veg at a time. Happy gardening to you both 🙂PS. Are you featuring any of your strawberry recipes in the near future, Mrs W? Haven't seen a recipe video in a while, and they really are fabulous! Thank you

We're thrilled to hear about your successful harvest and that you enjoyed the Marathon heads! Yes being F1 they do come ready at the same time, that's why I don't grow whole rows of them. We too have rust on the outdoor garlic and this cool wet weather has not helped. Strawberries for breakfast can't beat it. Just keep pinching yourself Belinda nothing beats HOME GROWN. We have some recipe and preserving videos in the pipeline so stay tuned - thank you for watching our little channel we really appreciate it!

@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 Thank you Barry. Yes success last year with the Passandra cucumbers you recommended (my first time ever growing them) and now a great crop of Marathon. Thank you for all your info. Just grew 10 plants as I knew, being F1's they would all come to harvest at approx the same time. Maybe to save prepping and freezing most, we can eat one every other day for 10 days or so. WE seem to have spent the whole of spring eating purple sprouting and now calabrese. The mange tout and broad beans have provided a much welcome change.I think I will try and sow the Marathon at 2-3 week ntervals to spread the harvest over a longer period as once these are gone I have no more. Next thing to be eating lots of will be the cabbage- they havee grown mammoth thiss year- everyone is amazed how big they are, and not a mark on them. I will send some photos to you. After those it will be beans and courgetes, not forgetting all the lettuce and tomatoes, ha ha.

@nodignorfolkgardener4575

Hi Paul, good to hear from you! I would harvest a plant to see what the harvest is like. Ours were sown 2 weeks after yours and you can see there is a good harvest and Charlotte stores really well. It is not necessarily blight, all this rain could mean they have just had too much water. Blight is usually brown spots. I would just keep an eye on your plants if the spots start to become large patches on the leaves then harvest and take what you have!
