Arielle Slinger Me too. My co worker who’s from Colombia introduced me to his Cousin and hit it off. She likes to dance sometimes but likes a lot of music so it helps me since she likes rock too so I want to learn this for her..and myself of course. My co worker was saying just learning basic moves, move your hips, and just go with it, that’s all you need. Obviously if you want to be more technical, it’s more advanced. Just have fun he says. When they twist a bit with their hips in every step it really makes the biggest difference then just stepping back and forth that little flare is what makes the dance look magical

Hardest part about salsa dancing for the men is getting an ear for the beat. Once you got that down, everything else falls into place. I just listened to salsa music over and over again, dancing by myself in the subway even, so I could get a feel for the beat. It eventually came to me and I was like, "Cool!" haha!

I have listened to salsa so many hours i cant record. Im both half latin and half white, and if you arent raised on salsa, it takes a while to learn this dance. I have the beat, no doubt (soy Latino), but you still need to know the steps as taught in this video. Que Viva Puerto Rico!

I think that is very cool to have that kind of culture. I was stationed overseas back in 2002 and used to hit the club which had salsa dancing. I loved it but I came back home and wife doesn't like to dance. So I am stuck with memories at least. Keep it up you'll get there I didn't know what I was doing but I got woman to dance with me.

I took my first dance class last night, “strictly beginner salsa” - they were teaching these steps - but YOU made it so much easier. I leave Friday for Miami with my GF. I am just going to practice the solo steps tonight. I really want to take her dancing (kind of surprise her a little). At least having SOME knowledge gives me a little more confidence! Thanks!

I picked up the basic salsa move because I did Zumba a few times. I just did it and thought it looked like how everyone else does it haha but watching this I’m glad it really was right. Wait i just realized my go-to dance style in social situations w/ dancing is salsa. I've taken a bit of ballroom and latin, a little jazz and tap, tiny bit of hip, some folk dance, flamenco, and tons of ballet, but never ever salsa specifically!!! It feels like one of the simplest types of Latin dance, and i guess some of the other short periods i did some other Latin dances carried over lol

great videos. Most videos are too dark or hard to understand with poor audio. production is important for education in dances! I also appreciate the building blocks incorporated into dancing. My only gripe is the loose pants in some of the videos that make it hard to see the leg movements, thankfully the Merengue one was simple enough. Good stuff, i will watch more :)

Question: when doing the spins are you still doing the front/back/side/side movements? Are you still keeping a count in your head? I can do the basic steps but once I get into the spins I can’t time them with the music and come out off rhythm. Usually able to find the best quickly but it’s still awkward having to find your step after the spins.
